ArmyBengal Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 So that gives the Bengals three 5th round picks (#156, #166, and #167). Not a ton of value... but if a player they like falls in the draft, they have ammunition to move up a little bit. That was exactly what I was thinking and made comment about earlier. Package up what you can and get another quality player. Quote
Scottishbengal Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 There was talk on a few Giants boards I was checking out that they heard it was for one of their 4th round picks. There also wasn't a single person who was in favor of the Giants getting Rivers.A 4th ?? I think I would do that with little to no thought.According to the report it's for a 5th round pick ........ the 32nd in that round.http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/04/giants_to_trade_for_cincinnati.html Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Yep and I guess that is about all we could reasonably expect, given his injury history. Quote
Kazkal Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Per Garafolo, the Bengals will get the Giants' 5th round pick. That's the last pick in the round, of course.I guess we did better than SF did. They only got a 7th for Mays...Later, Keith, Hope you have better luck in the Big Apple.Well Mays was a second rounder vs a top 10 selection >.<,I guess it's win win for bengals they got who they really wanted. HoosierCat Posted April 11, 2012 Author Report Posted April 11, 2012 So that gives the Bengals three 5th round picks (#156, #166, and #167). Technically, yes. But without comp picks considered, 166 and 167 are 6th rounders. Still, props for getting anything for him. I wonder if he's had his physical yet? He is in NYC today. Not a ton of value... but if a player they like falls in the draft, they have ammunition to move up a little bit.Yup. Together the three picks are worth about 78 points on the trade chart, so about 25 points apiece. That would be enough to move up 7 or 8 spots in the second, or into the top 5-6 picks in the third, assuming they could find a partner willing to do a deal. Even a single pick could move them up 5 or so spots in the third or a couple spots in the second. Quote
derekshank Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 I was just thinking about it... Has there been any team that has made more trades than the Bengals over the last couple of years? They've traded for Leonard, Nelson, and Mays and have traded away Chad, Palmer, and Rivers. Quote
HoosierCat Posted April 11, 2012 Author Report Posted April 11, 2012 I was just thinking about it... Has there been any team that has made more trades than the Bengals over the last couple of years? They've traded for Leonard, Nelson, and Mays and have traded away Chad, Palmer, and Rivers.Clinton McDonald for Kelly Jennings, too. I'd say the hags got the better of that deal. But the Bengals definitely came out ahead with Leonard and Mays. Jury remains out on Palmer, Chad and Rivers (though I think they'll get the best of the Palmer and Chad trades in the end). But yeah, they have been busy little trade beavers in the last few years. I have to give the organization credit for that after spending years yelling for them to deal guys who obviously weren't in their long-term plans, or who obviously weren't happy in Cincy and were going to make sure everyone else was unhappy, too. COB Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Wow. His wrist was completely rebuilt. I wonder if the team wanted him to do the less involved/faster recovery surgery and when he opted for the complete rebuild they felt they had to move on. If healthy he's a competent starter. Nothing more. We're better off with Howard and Lawson, they both play more like linebackers than Rivers did. He's strangely tentative. As a postscript, that helmet to the chin hit Hines Ward broke Rivers' jaw with is an illegal hit now. Come to think of it, so is the crawl-over-to-Palmer-and-total-his-knee move that Kimo used in '05 playoff game. Come to think of it, I hope the whole Steelers organization and most of their fans go down in plane crash. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 I'm sensing a little hostility COB. You ok today ?? Quote
HoosierCat Posted April 11, 2012 Author Report Posted April 11, 2012 A note from Hensley:Two sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the Bengals and Giants do not expect to finalize trade today. The hope is to have it completed by Thursday. It's possible that the trade is continent on Rivers passing a physical.I suspect it's a lot more than "possible." Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Yeah, you think ??I mean "degenerative" isn't something you simply overlook. Quote
glasgowbengal Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 What exactly did Rivers do to his wrist to mess it up?? Quote

BengalPimp Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Stupid Trade.....They got nothing for Rivers....Last pick of the 5th Rd? STUPID.....That 5th (basically a 6th Rd) pick may not even make the roster......The Bengals have money, so it shouldn't be a Cap Issue, and if he's healthy, he'll give you a solid LB who can still be great (still only 25 yrs old).......I like Rivers, and I think the Giants got a steal.....They're going to regret this, and watch another Bengal leave and make the Pro Bowl with someone else........This trade does not make the Bengals better......period. HoosierCat Posted April 11, 2012 Author Report Posted April 11, 2012 Interesting comment from Howard on Sirius today (via Reedy):"It’s all based on what the organization wants to do. When you look at Carson Palmer and Keith Rivers deals, it was just time for both sides to go their separate ways. It’s a good move for both sides. We’re going to see the Giants this year when they come to Cincinnati. His play is going to make me better."Emphasis added. I suspected as much earlier today when I saw Rivers tweet the "New York, New York" lyrics "these little town blues are melting away..." and saw Thornton tweet that he'd spoken to Rivers and he was "HAAAAAAPY."Like I said before, props to the organization for getting rid of the guys who don't want to be here and getting something for them in the bargain. It's about time the FO got it. Quote

ArmyBengal Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 I think in some way or another Rivers had to dislike the fact he was replaced by Howard.Regardless of if it was warranted or not, there had to be some displeasure. He may succeed, he may not. I'm just not worried anymore and I saw the position needing to be addressed in the draft anyway. He was to much of a question mark here. Quote
ct_bengal Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 f**k rivers. hes a workout guru not a football player. go to ny where they wont make the playoffs for 2 more years. Quote

I'm just not worried anymore and I saw the position needing to be addressed in the draft anyway. He was to much of a question mark here.He probably was ticked a little but he had his chances. And it's hard to complain when he's only played in 30+ games in 5 seasons. It's fish or cut bait time around here anymore. If guys no longer fit the scheme or have soured, I say bye-ya. Also keep in mind that he was drafted by Chuckie Cheese. He may not have had the kahooneys or whatever that Zimmer is looking for in his guys. And I have to wonder about that wrist. Is it healed? A fifth round pick is little risk for the Giants and the Bengals obviously feel they are better off without him. We can't worry about what might happen with him somewhere else. As someone else said, it's time to move on.So is Kuechly on their radar screen now? Quote
HoosierCat Posted April 12, 2012 Author Report Posted April 12, 2012 It's fish or cut bait time around here anymore. I only hope you're right. Because if so, gawd be praised, it's about time. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 So is Kuechly on their radar screen now?I still don't know what to make of that dude. He's probably going to be gone before we pick and i'm kind of glad about that. Some say he's got the best movement and ability as any LB coming into the draft in some time. Some say he's an overrated player that is only going to go in the first round due to the lack of talent at the position. He may be great, he may suck, but i'd rather another team figure that out. Quote
walzav29 Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 The most encouraging thing is that he didn't want to be there and they traded him. I have to believe this was the kind of thing Marvin wanted when he decided to re-sign. The ability to get rid of guys that don't want to be on the team.No more #1's from USC. Talk about about no self awareness. CP and Rivers missed 2 seasons each. They never seemed to make being a leader their responsibility. Quote
