This might be the beginning of the end for Rey. It doesn't say if they are pressing charges but he might be up for a suspension regardless. Probly need to put LB on the shopping list if it wasn't there already.

I saw that on the local news last night and just shook my head.

I like Rey, but this type of stuff is just stupid.

LB was already on the list in my book, but it was OLB.

Here's to hoping Muckelroy comes back 100%...

He seems not too sharp. This is why we can never make up any ground. The minute we have success something stupid happens. He's the MLB. That's supposed to be important. A leadership role is needed. This messes up the plans. We could have went guard and corner. Now we have to consider LB. Damn.

What a friggin idiot...

Cincinnati bar manager says Bengals’ Rey Maualuga punched him

Posted by Michael David Smith on February 10, 2012, 8:13 AM EST

AP

The manager of a downtown Cincinnati bar says Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga punched him after being told to leave early Sunday morning.

FOX 19 in Cincinnati reports that Sammy Laham, manager of the bar Luxe, says that Maualuga responded to being told it was time for his group to go by punching the messenger.

“One of them said something at which point I repeated myself, that they had to leave, and then Rey Maualuga got up, took three or four steps and punched me in the face, more noticeably the eye, then my nose started to bleed,” Laham said. “Then security diffused the situation.”

A witness to the incident, Brittany Knight, gave FOX 19 a similar account.

“Rey was leaning up against the bar and he stepped forward and swung,” she said.

Cincinnati Police are investigating. No charges have been filed. Maualuga’s agent, Gary Uberstine, told FOX 19 that he had spoken to Maualuga about the accusation but can’t comment.

Even without criminal charges, the mere fact that Maualuga was involved in some type of incident in a bar is troubling. On February 2, 2010, Maualuga was placed on two years’ probation for drunk driving, and days later he checked into the Betty Ford Center to get treatment for alcohol abuse. This incident apparently happened just three days after Maualuga’s probation ended.

He's an alcoholic. He's been through treatment and was sober for a while, but apparently he's off the wagon. Hopefully this will be a bit of a wakeup for him. One other thought: it can't feel too good to get punched by an NFL linebacker.

It sure looks that way, sadly. But he wouldn't be the first guy to fall off the wagon.

Yup.

Rey = Mediocre at best. Doesn't have what it takes between the ears to be the leader on D. Need to keep looking IMO. He just dropped a few notches in my book if true. He is celebrating being off probation by drinking? He has admitted to an alcohol problem. This will happen again.

I believed him last time when he did a mea culpa. Guess he didn't mean it.

This is an excuse to look for a better alternative.

Don't need any excuses from someone who said stuff like this wouldn't happen anymore.

Childish behavior from someone who is supposed to be a leader.

There are MLB's that could be had outside the first round that would provide better leadership and production.

Yea i think Rey this year showed he is not much of a leader during the year, and now off the field i think he showed he is really not a leader at all. I think its time to look else where, and i really hope Muck comes back healthy. He looked like a fiery guy who loved to hit hard, something Rey didnt do very often, not to mention not getting off blocks!

Maybe they will take a look at Donta Hightower now, who knows.

Rey has officially been charged with misdemeanor assault.

No doubt this will lead to a suspension from GOD-El, too.

Wow what a leader for this team! No wonder this team always seem to get a bad rep, its because of players like this. So called leaders making stupid mistakes, and hurting others on this team because of it. Screw that, im tired of this crap and people like this should be cut, to prove a point that they are not going to take it anymore. Oh and dont resign Simpson either, im freaking tired of this stupid crap.

Alcohol isn't Rey's only problem. I think he's pretty limited between the years. Zimmer hung onto Dhani way past his expiration date, just because Dhani could read offenses and make the right calls. I think physically Rey was ready, but Zimmer didn't have faith in him on the mental side.

Bye rey. Next.

Curse of the Bengal MLB? How many guys has Marvin run through that position since he's been here? Kevin hardy, Nate Webster, Odell, Dhani, Rey. Seems like every year it's someone new. Dhani was probly there the longest.

Now I remember why I didn't renew my season tix last year. The management is soft on the players that continually break the law. Until they take a hard line stance and punish/cut these players, the players will think they have room to screw up because they aren't punished.

This goes to the general softness of the team. All the way down. Soft defense. Soft oline.

This is irritating.

Management has to realize that if you give a inch they will take a mile.

Get rid of Benson, PAc MAn, Rey, and JErome - anyone who cant seem to understand that rules are to be followed. If not, why would they listen to Marvin. This is the last thing a young team needs. Distractions from the criminal Bengals.

Not buying season tix again until this is fixed. As well as not being the team with the most cap space. They better spend this year. If not, I wont spend either.

I still think about what might have been with Odell. That is a shame, but it is what it is...

Rey ?? I always liked the pick and was happy with him, but he just hasn't come to realize his potential.

Now this kind of crap ?? Why bother ??

Rey, you really need to grow the f*ck up...

I wonder what the organization's thinking is about Muckleroy? Do they envision him as a possible starter? We didn't experience much dropoff when Rey was hurt this year so I'm thinking with Muckleroy and whoever comes via draft/FA we can easily replace him

Yea i agree down the stretch this team did play very soft on both sides of the ball!

The reasons i wanted Marvin gone, was because he let this team walk over him, never disaplined guys for doing things they are not supposed to do. Now maybe that was a Mike Brown issue, im not sure but i thought things were going to change. Well i guess i was wrong, but i think if Marvin wants to get attention from his players its time he is more strict with them! Let guys walk who want to hurt the team, more then help. This team is too young to start up crap like this, they need to focus on football, not who is the next guy to get arrested!!

I love the way everyone instantly promotes someone as guilty because of their past. Get rid now he's a disgrace etc yet we don't know the full story and don't know what really happened ever thought he was drinking juice and this owner was a bonehead and got funny with someone that was with ray and he lost his cool.

Yeah he shdnt have hit the guy also this guy and witness could be bulls**tting and trying to get money.

What is a guy with a newborn baby and a history of alcohol and anger problems doing at a bar at 2:30 in the morning?

Are you his defense attorney? Even the excuses you make for him are ridiculous. A grown man can't go around punching everyone who "gets funny with someone" in his group. What is this, junior high?

And how many mistakes does someone need to make before you figure that's just who they are?

Do we know all the certainties ?? No we don't, but there is just no way you can justify punching a dude in the face like that unless the dude came up and punched him first and he had to defend himself. Anything short of that puts him in the wrong and as already mentioned, what was he doing there at that time of the night knowing he has the prior issues he does ??

Sorry, can't make excuses for someone not willing to take responsibility for their own actions.
