I thought you liked the Bengals WR corps this past offseason - or am I confusing you with some other roid-raging pothead?

I'm not comfortable trying to guess what might be confusing you. After all, right now you could be higher than I am. Or maybe you're just a tad stupid and very easily confused. Who can say?

There's only so good the passing game is going to be when the OL doesn't do a great job of pass protection (or when Jay Gruden's blocking scheme involves strategically not blocking DEs). And the whole "rookie QB with no time to prepare" thing.

Perhaps, but aren't those types of things true of the entire offense and all of the receivers who play. Yet here we are discussing the potential impact a player currently on IR might have had if available to play. And why are we doing that? Because of the vulnerability the Bills defense showed a week prior when attempting to defend the finest slot WR in the NFL and his MVP sidekick, Tom Brady.

Caldwell should be able to do something useful.

Caldwell has been useful. And more important, he's been more productive than Shipley was before being injured. In fact, Shipley's supporters can be heard using words like non-existent and invisible when describing his play before being injured. So ask yourself, which of us sounds more high? My money is on those of you arguing that an invisible player now on IR might have been the key to beating the Bills.

I mean, s**t. Green looks pretty damned good so far.

Green looks like the rookie he is. And there's the rub because talent aside nearly every Bengal offensive skill position player looks as inexperienced as they actually are. And yeah, if he were healthy I'd add a temporarily invisible Jordan Shipley to that list.

And let's be honest - aren't you just glad the receivers know what f*cking route to run?

I can't believe you're making that claim only days after watching Jermaine Gresham run the wrong route on a critical play during the closing minutes of the loss against San Francisco.

So take another hit from the bong there Mr. Chong, relax, and learn to love your new WR corps.

That's good advice. Consider it done.

Ha. You could've just summed that up with something that went like: "I disagree with the suggestion that Shipley has been more effective than Caldwell." And look, I'm not trying to be critical here, I just find it funny what some fans get so distressed about. You'd think I called the sky green and the grass blue because I believe that Shipley could have helped our offense move the ball this weekend.

However, I digress. I don't want to keep you from your "I hate Jermaine Gresham" support group meeting.

You're kinda funny. First you complain that some are making too much of something, and then you resume a silly, pointless, and empty defense of your favorite sacred cow. And even funnier, it's becaming painfully obvious Gresham isn't the only sacred cow in your herd.

And for those of you who don't think Jermaine Gresham is hurting the team...check yourselves. Because even Gresham himself isn't buying your excuses. In fact, he's actually admitting the many of the very same things I've accused him of.

But enough of all of that.

I'll gladly let you get back to your "Jordan Shipley Could Have Been the Answer" support group meeting. And while I'm not a member I'm sure your group has many very important things to discuss, including the way his season ended several weeks ago. (Some of you apparently haven't heard the news.)

I reread the name of the thread and realized we scared the Bills fans away.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm wondering what's going in his mind. Is he thinking "man, years of losing has really made those Bengal fans cannibalistic!" I bet he thinks we all need shrinks about now. That wasn't our best showing... :disgust:

I'm guessing a Bills fan knows exactly what this teams fanbase is going through right now. And if not, f**k him.

Last point. If this conversation that seemingly none of you think is appropriate hadn't happened at all the number of posts added to this messageboard this past week might not have topped a dozen, especially if pictures of birds and BBQ grills are ignored.

No doubt.

I really don't get Bengal fans this year. I was under the impression that we were coming into this season with our eyes wide open. Out with the old, in with the new. Lots of rookies are starting. Lots of inexperience. Low expectations in the W column... but a lot of hope for the future.

I was... and still am more interested in this year's version of the Bengals than the 2010 version. Even if not an overall improvement in talent... at least it is a building step. And almost more importantly... these young guys seem hungry - and that makes them likable.

But the moment a couple obligatory (and much expected) losses arrive, the fanbase scatters.

The conversation is par for the course around here. Those of us who "live here" are well aware of it but I am curious how such infighting comes across to an outsider

I'm not really pissed off by the play on the field, as much as I am pissed off with the coaching. I believe a lot of the mistakes that are made by inexperience could be helped if the players are put into the right positions. I can't really say much about the defense because the numbers say they are doing well, BUT if I was to have a complaint, it would be that they seem to have major let downs and can't tighten back up.

As for the offense, I can't really say I care for Gruden all that much. He doesn't give his QB easy outlets, he doesn't seem to be able to call the homerun plays when they are there, and he can't seem to adequately use his stable of runningbacks. It's obvious that the offense is what has cost this team it's 2 losses and as far as blame goes, I place it squarely in the corner of Gruden not the players.

As much as I love a fantastic false dichotomy, is there any reason the two couldn't coexist on the same football field? I mean, now that Simpson turned out to be a vending machine that served two items (pot, and dropped passes), seems to me that Ship and Caldwell would have been 2 of the best 3 receivers on the team. Now it's Caldwell, Green, and whoever wants to walk out of the stands. (I'm assuming Simpson gets suspended soon).

I said (and meant) receivers, not TEs. Pay attention, pothead.

And even with that, it's nothing like Chad was last year. You know this. And I also know that you're enjoying Chad's fuggups with the Patsies more than anything else this season, so just be glad he's not here.

Do you just complain a lot? That's all we ever did. Complain about the QB or lack of o-line or pick some player (Whitner) on the team to blame all of our problems on. Blame a coach, blame the GM. Complain the national media hates us. Complain the NFL ignores us. And then we got over excited at every little thing that went right and tell ourselves that we could make the playoffs because our DB got two picks in two games.

You've nailed about 50% of it.

The other 50% falls into what I would call the "bitch" category. Bitch about the lack of a practice bubble. Bitch that FA's only use the Bengals as a negotiation tool. Bitch that the owner doesn't spend enough money. Bitch about the Bengals medical staff. Bitch that the owner took advantage of tax payers. Bitch that a hamburger grill was broken at the home opener...

You know... that kind of really super important stuff.

Per Reedy at NFP Friday Forecast

The X-Factor: TE Jermaine Gresham. After leading the team in receptions (six) and yards (58) in the opening week win at Cleveland, the second-year player has struggled the past two games. Two of his four catches in last Sunday's loss to San Francisco came on the final drive and he lined up in the wrong spot on a key second-down play on the opening drive. First-year offensive coordinator Jay Gruden is doing a better job of stretching the field with Gresham but there have been times when he has had lapses which has hurt the offense. If Gresham can break out of his two-game slump this Sunday, it gives Andy Dalton a key weapon to use in the passing game, which really struggled last week.

So... Reedy has been stealing Hair's rant. Either that... or he has been watching the games.

The same things happens at twobillsdrive.com. TBD has a lot of intelligent posters, but even among them, you have people with differing opinions. Things are of course much worse when the team sucks. I think we hit our low point during the end of the 08 to the 09 season. We started '08 5-1 and then went 2-8. There was a lot of bickering about why we sucked and how hopeless our team was and it was kinda depressing especially when it seems as if there will be no end to the despair. Basically, I don't there there is a big difference between your message board and our circa '08-'09

I can remember a time when a lowly Bengals team had a high powered Buffalo Bills team coming to town. No one was giving the Bengals a chance...

[media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7vtWB4owdE&feature=related

Those were the 1988 Cincinnati Bengals, and on that day they beat the Jim Kelly led Buffalo Bills 21-10 in the AFC Championship Game and earned a trip to the Superbowl. Let's build on what we have, and always remember, "You don't live in Buffalo, you live in Cincinnati!"

Good game guys. I think we got a little over confident going into the game and your defense set the pace. The only gripe I have is with that Stevie Johnson non catch. I really think that shoulda been a 1st down. But anyway, your guys played well in the 2nd half, good luck for the rest of the year!

Dude I never saw this win coming. Thanks for being such a good sport, and good luck to your team from here on out.
