Scout200
What made you a Bengals fan? Were you raised in a family that are fans? Is it because of your location? Do you personally know the players?

Scottishbengal
The helmets !!!Back in the mid 80's when gridiron first hit British TV we used to get a Sunday late afternoon show (for those UK fans who can remember Nicky Horne presenting the Channel 4 show) with some highlights from across the league of the previous weeks matches. I opted for the Bengals purely and simply because of their stripey helmets - so unique, so cool, I thought this will be "my team" and so that's how I became a Bengals fan. walzav29
Nov. 8th 1981 I was a 7 year old kid living in Detroit, and the Lions sucked then just like they do now. They interrupted whatever the local game was, and showed Louis Breeden's interception return and I thought they had the sweetest uniforms ever. Started paying attention from that moment on. Of course they played in the SB in Michigan that year, and I'll never forget that stupid Ray Wershings squib kicks. Been stuck ever since. So in a nutshell. The uniforms. I'm gonna stick with these guys until I'm dead. This is my 30th year and of course, this is the year they win it all!

ArmyBengal
Well, this is one of those situations I place firmly on my father. He was a fan since I was born and I grew up around all the football talk. Many of my uncles were Browns fans seeing as how we were a little late in getting a team, but my Dad never was (kudos to him) and I always heard the talk since I could remember. It was always about supporting your hometown team and family. We were taught to never forget where you are from and that family was always GREATLY important in life. With that being the case, I couldn't have gotten away from the Bengals, minus a tragic accident. By the time I was 10, I had seen every team in the league play down at Riverfront, was at the freezer bowl, and went to Super Bowl XVI. There was no turning back.Oddly enough, I was mowing the lawn a few weeks ago and for the first time in my life an odd thought ran through my mind."Boy, I hope the Bengals win a Super Bowl before I die." I thought to myself as I walked and mowed."There's always next year" has an expiration date it would appear. Sad but true...GO BENGALS !!! Obviously there are no guarantee's.I had a great Uncle that was a big time Indians fan. He passed within days of them choking in the 7th game of the WS to Florida. I honestly think he was holding on just to see the Tribe win it all. I have many times had the same thought about the Bengals. I have been lucky enough to watch the Reds win three and the Buckeyes win 1, but I'm still waiting to see the Bengals hold the trophy at the end of the season. HairOnFire
What made me a Bengal fan? Well, speaking only for myself...um....uhh....(damnit)...I couldn't resist the massive cash bonus I received in exchange for pledging my lifetime support. There, I said it. And I'm glad I said it. It's good to finally get that one off my chest. In my defense I was only ten years old at the time and 1968 was a different time...a different era. Hippies. RFK. MLK. Nixon. Things are different today. NFL teams no longer casually hand out signing bonuses to fans now like they once did. Plus, 60k was considered quite a lot of money back then. (((shrug))) Whatever. It's done. The 60k signing bonus I got was spent along time ago. I have no regrets.

KRUNKJUICE
It was 1978. My dad was a Browns fan, brother was a Cowboys fan and sister was a Steelers fan. I was 5 years old and got a hand me down Bengals jacket from a family friend. I loved that jacket and wore it everywhere. From that day on I was a Bengals fan. glasgowbengal
Living in Scotland, the first time I saw 'American' Football was highlights of SBowl XVI and something inside told me that this would be my team.Followed them on Armed Forces radio from then (the signal faded in and out, badly). They were hardly ever on UK TV - I remember the last second mess againt San Fran, in 87, being one of the few times.Got to my fist game in 1990, away at the Chargers, and have been making an annual, early season, pilgrimage to PBS for the past few years. Helps that one of my old school buddies has moved to West Chester. Will be over for the Bills game this year. Fingers (toes and eyes) crossed for a semi decent season!!! What the hell do I do concerning football and Cincyhokie, jr.? This is a terrible delima. My first boy was born in Texas and his ass is being brought up a Bengals fan. I suspect when he's old enough, he will figure out things quick and start wearing a Cowboys jersey. My second son was born in Cincinnati, so he's has no choice. He's doomed from jump. Then again, he will probably end up figuring out when he was conceived, we were in South Dakota and claim to be a Vikings fan.I think you know what to do though.
