DC_Bengals_Fan
The Bengals don't have 'officials'. They have Brown (extended) family members. Unless King's exaggerating his sources, this has to be a plant by the Bengals, right? Is this Mikey's way of trying to get the word out while salvaging trade value? HoosierCat
Who knows. After all, King was the guy who just a week or two back said Palmer could still be back in Cincy and that the front office was "laughing uproariously" at Palmer's trade demands. I guess you might surmise that they are trying to get people to think they will take Cam or Blaine at 4 in hopes of pushing their real target down to the spot, but really they are so high up there will be a stud prospect no matter how the first three picks fall.Earlier in the column King mocks Newton to the Bengals at 4, noting that MB loves to gamble on QBs...sigh. derekshank
If they don't take a QB at four you can lock one in at 35...Sounds good to me.I'll take AJ Green and Christian Ponder (or whoever else is a good fit for the WC).A run-heavy West Coast offense with AJ Green, Shipley, and Gresham? There are plenty of QBs that should be able to have success with that.Given Cam Newton's struggles yesterday throwing to a spot, I'd prefer the big play receiver, and a less physically gifted QB in the 2nd. cincyhokie
From skunk-hair's MMQB column this a.m.8. I think the Bengals are doing their due diligence on the quarterback position, which tells me they might grant Carson Palmer his wish to be traded when the NFL finally gets a labor deal done. Talking to one Bengals official over the weekend, I was surprised to hear that whenever trades are allowed after the signing of a new CBA, the team will listen to offers for Palmer. If they don't take a QB at four you can lock one in at 35...If...if they were to take trade offers. It's possible they land an additional #1 pick. Seattle, San Francisco, and Arizona. All in the hunt for a new QB. All in the same division. All wanting to out do the other.Let the bidding begin. derekshank
Let the bidding begin.Yeah... I'm game. But I'll bet dollars to donuts a new CBA isn't in effect in time for the draft. So, that means, we'll get 2012 draft picks.

ArmyBengal
I like the fact this is even being floated as an option.IF the CBA doesn't get done and they push picks (if it is indeed picks and not a player or combination) to the 2012 draft, I would think the price goes up a little. A team getting no immediate return would have to ask to be compensated for that fact.If that is the case, put me in the camp of a QB in round 2.Ponder or whatever. I still don't like Locker...I would really like to see the team nail this down and allow them to move on whichever the direction is.
Trevor
I mean if palmer is seriously going to retire,.. Then we might as well trade him,. Even SOP knows that,.. No matter how friggin hard headed he is,.. If we get nothing in return of palmer just going home,.. I'm going to be pissed!
ArmyBengal
I disagree, you can't simply GIVE Palmer away for peanuts and improve another team.If the Bengals don't get proper compensation, F*CK HIM and let him retire.Simply start over again. It's not like we aren't doing that anyway.
COB
If true, this is good news. It shows Mike is suddenly willing to deal with the world as it is, instead of the world as he wishes it were. And the Bengals could be in a good spot. Let's face it, Palmer is getting hurt all the time now. And Pete Carroll could be desperate to get someone in there, and he knows and coached Palmer. He would likely overlook any red flags and believe he can turn Palmer back into the Heisman trophy winner. The Seahawks could be in a perfect position to massively overpay. That's all Mike wants, someone to do something he wouldn't do in a million years.Saying goodbye to Palmer also means we could be saying goodbye to Mike flailing about trying to provide his golden boy with all the shiny toys he needs to bring back 1985 (Bryant, Terrel Owens, the guy from the Jets who couln't get open, the tight end from the Colts that Roy Williams about killed, etc.) Maybe we can bring in some linemen. Right now Ponder is the most ready QB coming out coming from the pro syle offense. Dosnt mean he is the best QB here, but he is the best one for Grudens offense.Well lets hope something would soon get done before the draft. If they could trade him ASAP, and trade Chad then they could get alot of great talent in this years draft. They could choose o-line help, also if they could get a 2nd for Palmer. So im hoping that something soon gets done, so Palmer can go.
walzav29
Phuk Palmer. I hate these QB's though. MAN do I wish we could have Andrew Luck. Puuuuuuuke. We suck, and there is no hope. I hope Gurden has the most say in what QB they are going to pick.

Did you mean to say 2005?Nope, '85. Palmer had an epic season on the mulch play area of Bambi Land Daycare in Encino. At the end of the year they had a big showdown with the kids from Caterpillar Clubhouse in Pomona. Palmer kicked ass as usual, but was a good sport about it.Yes, I meant 2005, somewhere between my brain and my fingertips things don't always go right. In January of '85 he skinned his knee playing on the monkey bars and he was never the same. After that, he kept lobbing the ball into the street. Eventually, both his parents and the teachers agreed it would be better if he were home-schooled.

Palmer might find his mojo, somewhere else also, but Mikey would have to trade him for that to happen anytime soon. Palmer needs to rededicate himself to the new and improved Bengals Offense soon, if he plans on making it back to Pro-Bowl caliber in the near future.
