I laughed **hard** when I read a line from Chad today

from: http://cincinnati.co...-not-make-trip/

Ochocinco of Simpson. “He’s really good. He can jump out of the gym. Great hands, speed. The whole nine yards. He’s a better blocker than I am times

Talk about damning with faint praise :-)

Hilarious

In a related story, I was heard to exclaim "my dead gramma is a better blocker than Chad at times"

At times!?!? Esteban shoulda been a bull fighter.

That makes perfect sense to me, as I've always assumed your dead grandmother was a lineman.

Our cable went out the day before Christmas. Time Warner sent over TJ's dead gramma, she climbed the pole out by the road and fixed our cable.

It's just so pathetically funny that Chad apparently thinks he himself is a good blocker

Maybe he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night or something

Who says Chad is not a good blocker? Just look at the way he blocks his junk in this photo!!!

I know, I know, I am imposing a 1 hour ban on myself for posting that pic

well, his masterful assumption of the fetal position also blocks him from being hit, and his masterful tanking of the 2008 season also blocked the team out of several more wins, so maybe you're onto something here

richly deserved - I think a week might be more in order, but at least you saved me money I would otherwise have paid for dinner. Instantaneous complete loss of appetite, and all that.

In all fairness to the guy, please read the rest of his comments. At least he is honest in his assessment.

"He hasn't come out of nowhere. He hasn't had the opportunity to play and show what he can do," said Ochocinco of Simpson. "He's really good. He can jump out of the gym. Great hands, speed. The whole nine yards. He's a better blocker than I am times … It's night and day when it comes to blocking. That's something that he adds to the X position that I've never been able to do."

The only funny part of all of this? With just a few words Lewis makes clear how unhappy Mike Brown has been about the way Simpson was handled.

And I'd say that matches how unhappy Marvin was that Simpson was drafted at all.

I could see a scenario in which a coach ends up burying a player on the depth chart because he resents the fact that the guy's around at all. Then, having been so dead-set against the pick, he finds himself hard-pressed to eat that big pile of crow when the pick develops into a legit player.

Really, if you're Marvin, you can't want to face Mike Brown when he starts crowing about his acumen in finding hidden gems like the great Jerome Simpson in the draft. It might make you a little leery about playing the guy in case he's actually, well, good.

Interesting, plausible, and damning.

All I'll add is the reluctance to use Simpson in any role whatsoever probably wasn't made by Marvin alone, and Bratkowski's fondness/demand for experienced wideouts probably had a major influence on Lewis. After all, this is a team that features more motion than nearly any other in the NFL, heavily uses 3 and 4 WR formations, and expects all of it's non-Chadwickian wideouts to be able to play multiple positions.

Last, it's not like Jerome Simpson is the only highly drafted wideout to develope slowly under this coaching staff. Nor is he the only one who has rotted away on the inactive list while the coaching staff tells self serving lies about what the player can't do. (KDub/special teams)

Chad couldn't block sunshine at high noon on the equator.

I couldn't find the equator on our globe just now, then TJ's gramma appeared and showed me where the equator was. Then she sharpened my chain saw.

I'd love to know if there was a discussion about DeSean Jackson during the draft discussion about Simpson. "Upside-man" was finally deemed ready during year 3. Jackson was pro-ready in 2008.

That occurred to me too. I expect that the Bengals discounted Jackson (as most of the NFL probably did) as a result of character issues. Which he indeed possesses in spades. While the Iggles have enough leadership to contain him....could you see that guy apprenticing at the feet of Ocho?

Still, he does have the talent, that much is for sure.

Very true. But they did bring Henry back and later signed PacMan too which were considered risky by many.

The kid has a ton of talent. Too bad we didn't grab him. At the very least he could have returned punts or kickoffs until they felt he was able to move into the starting lineup.

People can say what they want, but Simpson is going to be great for this team, and so will Caldwell! Whenever this team gets an o-line that can block again, just watch these two young guys block in the run game it is so refreshing to see!!!!! Not only that but they can both catch, and are both fast. They will be good for this team!!!

GOOD BYE DIVAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If he can learn to hold on to the ball after the catch he likely will. I can't keep giving Palmer s**t about his three turnovers without lighting Jerome up about his two. These guys accounted for the majority of the offensive yards today. You can hang the loss on their turnovers.

No doubt he needs to hang on to the ball i agree with this. This was what his 3rd game this year playing, i really think he was trying to hard today to prove to everyone he can be that guy. As for me i no doubt he can be that and will be that guy. Sure he had some fumbling problems today, but the whole team had turnover problems all year. Simpson should have gotten his shot along time ago, and i think he showed enough to say he can be the guy!!!

Simpson will correct the fumbling issue. That is simply inexperience.

As for others not getting a chance, how about Chase Coffman? looked solid out there to me. Gresham and Coffman give the team solid TE's for some years to come.

Just looking back on the decisions from the end of last year to now, it should be no surprise they could not maintain their upswing.

Injuries (17 players on IR, including the leading WR, key nickel and dime backs, our Pro Bowl level placekicker, and a rash of important role players)

Poor personnel decisions (Antonio Bryant, not playing Dunlap, not playing Simpson, permitting Chad to twitter his way off the team)

Inexcusable coaching decisions (Tampa debacle, unprepared against NE, ATL, PIT and NO)

Carson's regression - simply no way to excuse or look past the abysmal play of Carson Palmer. His errors and poor play are perhaps the biggest contributor to losses for the team. His pick 6's broke the back of this team time and time again. Bad decsions matched to a bad scheme. Adding TO, Shipley and Gresham did not net wins.

Drastic change in Offensive scheme. From the personnel on the O-line (Smith for Roland, Livings for Mathis) upset the chemistry that produced a very effective run game the year before. Forcing an unnecessary vertical game where it was not needed blew up in their face. Brat overcooked the playbook and it came out still born.

All this equals 4-12. See ya Marv, see ya Carson, see ya Chad.

I thought Chase looked pretty good as well!

Dunlap is going to be great for this team, along with Atkins and MJ i like these young D-Linemen! Still would like to see one dominate pass rusher! I also thought Reggie Nelson had a good last couple games, with big hits and Ints!

I think we found out this year, we dont need Chad we dont need TO, all this team needs is a bunch of guys who want to be here, and want to win. This team needs guys who want to play as a team, and all the talent in the world dosnt mean you win in this league. So time to get away from all the me guys, and lets just play guys who are here to help them win!!
