-I <3 Mike Nugent.

-Extend Brandon Johnson the guy is still our best Linebacker

-Extend Joseph & Hall :P why brake up the best tandem of corners? they'd be worth the contracts.

-How do they keep geno off the field on passing downs he's alittle monster

-Can we Please Bench Nate Livings?

-I worry about Carson,But still won't give up on him yet

Happy about the win!!!!!

I just wanna know when will this offense live up to its potential???? One week the defense looks horrible offense puts up points next week the defense is awsome and the offense is a no show. They need to play a complete game, and they could blow teams out, if the defense plays like that.

Once again the bengals hurt themselves, stupid penalties, Palmer missing wide open recievers, esp Chad in the endzone. Chad needs to catch the ball when it hits him in the hands. Alot to work on yet!

I love nugent he has a great leg, even on kickoffs. Special teams return unit wasnt that great today or last week!

Im just happy they won though, they needed it!

Im going to start with my 2 complaints, to get them out of the way:

Bob Bratkowski, for all the supposed changes, i can still pretty much call our plays whenever we line up.

Also, Kevin Huber has really been a let down to this point. He came in known as a guy who can pin people down and has struggled, which makes me question coaching.

As for the positives, how about the pressure today. This def flat came to play. Micheal Johnson looked good effecting passing lanes, Atkins has to be the strongest player on this defense. Pat Sims with the big tip on the Johnson int. Coverage was great aside from 1 blown play by Joseph. Pretty much the entire defense.

Giddy.

A win's a win, and I cannot complain about a win over the Ravens. Was stunned to see the defense respond like that. Pleasantly stunned. Welcome to the NFL Gino Atkins, I may be in man-love mode with you.

Offense will find a way to get in the end zone I would suspect in future weeks.

And, hey, a dependable kicking game? Yes please.

First and foremost: f**k the Ravens.

The defense was fantastic. The pass rush frustrated me endlessly by always getting close but never getting there (until the final minutes). That's alright though. Improvement after last week's horrors is something I'm relieved to see.

The offense was rather pitiful, especially Palmer. I defend him every week when he is targeted by illogical whining, but this time he really did rather suck. I don't think that means much and expect him to play well this year regardless.

The Bengals don't have to run the ball constantly to win a physical game, and nor does the passing game have to work efficiently. Thanks defense. Thanks Nugent.

Rayner was almost on this roster.

Nice to see we don't have to worry about place kicking anymore. That wasn't the case a month ago.

Yes Carson was bad today but he'll bounce back Nice to see them win a game when the QB is off. Very few Bengal teams of the past have had a defense and running game able to do that

I sure hope we see more and more of Gino

any word on J Joe who was injured and left

any word on adam jones who didnt come back. Cant loose these two guys.

Also anyone notice that they were using 3 safties alot today, i thought it was a good plan today by Zimmer

Jones hurt his shoulder. I think it was while throwing a block after the Hall INT

I think they're still getting used to eachother. They will get better each week. T.O. has to get used to Carson and Shipley and Gresham are rookies. They'll get better. It is VERY important that we weather these early season storms. They must focus and be 4-1 after the next 3 weeks. If they can get the offense in sync by then. We'll be rocking and rolling come playoff time. WOW. I CAN'T believe the crappy Bengals beat the almighty Ravens! Hahahahhhhahahahahahahahahhahaahhahhahahahaahhaahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaahahhahaha

2009 all over again: defense plays all-world, offense sucks a$$.

Palmer had his moments but overall was not sharp today. TO has 2 TDs and Ocho 1 if Carson makes better throws.

I hope the JJ and Pacman injuries aren't serious.

Stupid penalties were back again. Kyle Cook had an awful day. O-line did do a better job than last week protecting Palmer.

Our punt/kick coverage teams flat-out SUCK.

Huber made up for his 61 yarder early with that 15 yard stinker late.

Officiating was lousy as usual. Twice the game stopped while they had conferences to figure out what the heck they were doing. Tripping call was ticky tack; that roughing call on Carson was complete BS. Reminded me of the call against Justin Smith that cost us the Tampa game a few years back.

Loving the big kickoffs by Nugent.

Happy with the win. Frustrated with how often I saw the 3WR sets. It's nice to get Shipley on the field... but not that often. This isn't '05. I want to run the ball on 1st down more often than not.

In a game this close, Benson should have been running behind 6 O-Linemen and a FB. Instead, the very few times they did give Benson the ball on 1st down it was with 3 WRs and a pass catching TE on the field.

The passing game wasn't in sync today... and against a good defense, that wouldn't normally bother me much. But it seemed a lot like they were forcing an ineffective passing game instead of running down the clock on the shoulders of one of the better 4th quarter RBs in the NFL.

A win is a win... But I don't feel good about what appears to be a major shift in offensive philosophy. Last year's philosophy worked well. The influx of pass catching talent should only call for a minor tweaking of that effective overall plan.

They ran on first down about half the time (7 of 13 first down plays if the count I just did was right).

Not a problem for me. I've always hated bunched up running formations and much prefer to spread the defense out.

Funny, it felt to me like they were forcing an ineffective running game. Kudos to Brat for sticking with it and not going pass-happy.

Well, that's pretty much what you got. Last October, they ran the ball 34 times and threw it 31 against the Ravens. Today? 35 passes, 31 runs.

I think that was sort of intentional - Zimmer knew that Flacco has happy feet, and if you get a contained rush on him he'll panic, lean on his back leg and either chuck it deep or out of bounds. The thing you can't do is overpursue and give him a running lane. To their credit, that happened only once, and we all know from 2008 that Flacco can hurt you running. So they got in his face, stayed in their lanes, and let him chuck it uselessly. Only time it backfired was the TD where JJoe screwed up by letting Mason get behind him.

All in all, a very intelligent defensive gameplan derived from watching film and learning the QB's tendencies. I love me some Zimmer.

34 rushes in '09: 27 by Benson (many behind the unbalanced line) for 120 yards.

31 rushes in '10: 23 by Benson (mostly out of a 3WR formation) for 78 yards.

Not the same.

The aforementioned stats should suffice as evidence that a 3WR set is inferior to the unbalanced line when desiring to run the ball.

Sure... I complained about the rushing attack too. But because of an extra WR and a pass catching TE in place of an extra O-Lineman and a FB. Why should we be surprised that the rushing game was having trouble?

Last year the Bengals found something that worked well, and they have completely abandoned it in favor of 3WR sets that net them an eye-popping 167 passing yards. Well done.

No, it just shows he Benson didn't have as good a game against Baltimore today as he did last in their first meeting last October. Look to the second game last year in November, when they were doing it your way, and you'll find Benson has the same 3.4 yard average per rush as he had today.
