So what are they waiting for./>http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/09/09/antwan-odom-facing-a-four-game-suspension/
walzav29
I thought it was pretty obvious he was on steroids. Whenever you see a guy gain 35 lb's in the offseason. You can bet it's not egg whites and protein. How many sacks did he have again? It was ridiculous.

I just never heard of that three star chilli place. Just seems strange.
kingwilly
It could be something like hcg, female pregnancy hormone, that is what Cushing tested positive for.Odom claims it is not a PED, so maybe a nutritional contamination claim? The NFL does not use blood tests to find things, so most likely it was some anabolic or precursor. There is no test for hgh.Second one in two years, as Abdul Hodge popped last year as well in a tidy, brush under the rug suspension for a PED.Oh well, nothing like one last twist of drama before the season starts. Pidge
Well, a couple of yrs ago this would have been huge. It's hardly great now but we have some depth. As long as Carson (please mocker Gods, I beg of you) stays healthy this yr, colour me optimistic.
ArmyBengal
Odom's tweet:"Just know I would never cheat to gain an edge in this game that I love. Don't lose your faith in me and please don't pass judgment on vicious rumors until the facts are known. Thank you all for the support. I really need it now. I love you all, Antwan."That being said, he claims it wasn't steroids or PED's, but acknowledges he tested positive for a banned substance. Kazkal
MJ around could be very productive, and was probably already being planned for. Plus, Odom's absence will be felt just as much inside at DT... creating additional playing opportunities for Geno Atkins.Well thats what he was suppossed do anyways so np ,With Rey Still at SLB may as well find way to get MJ on the field as much as possible and now on 3rd down they can just have dunlap & MJ play the rush ends. HairOnFire
Two updates. First, Odom is appealing the suspension which means he can play this Sunday. He admits to using a banned substance but insists it wasn't a PED. Second, the illness that prompted the earlier weight loss has apparently been linked to Odom's nightly use of a cpac machine. kingwilly
I thought it was Darryl Blackstock that got a suspension for PED's? Odom's dirty apnea equipment made him sick, so maybe it was respiratory related, something like cold medicine with ephedrine..

Whats that? Google showed a CPAP machine for sleep apnea. Is that it? Probably. I'm more than willing to assume I got the name wrong since my experience with these devices is limited to hearing my brother-in-law gripe about using the thing....followed immediately by my sister-in-law talking about how she can now sleep through the night now that her husbands snoring is under control. If I recall correctly there was a mask, some tubing, assorted straps and binders, two goats, and a rubber sheet involved.

Whats that? Google showed a CPAP machine for sleep apnea. Is that it?A CPAP machine is a "breathing" machine that forces air into a person or provides "continuous positive airway pressure". Sometime it is to assist in breathing due to some traumatic event or diminished capacity to consistently breath for them self in a hospital or emergency situation. In this case it's for forcing air in to help reduce the interference in the airway during sleep. As for the latest, Marvin made these comments today:http://cincinnati.co...he-locker-room/The one thing relatively for certain is that he will play on Sunday against New England. (as stated by Joe Reedy)Said Lewis about Odom's appeal: "It's something that has been ongoing for awhile. It's unfortunate that someone did what they did and Antwan foolishly responded. It's no one's business but his. Unfortunately it's something that guys go through all the time. Obviously a couple guys played last night (in terms of appeals) who have been through that who are still playing."
HairOnFire
Bengals DE Odom to play while appealing positive testBy Steve Wyche NFL.comSenior WriterPublished: Sept. 9, 2010 at 12:16 a.m. Updated: Sept. 10, 2010 at 05:48 p.m.Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Antwan Odom tested positive for a substance banned by the NFL but he expects to be cleared of any wrongdoing because the banned element is contained in a prescribed medication, a source with knowledge of the situation said Friday. Odom has not been notified of any suspension -– he has been notified of the positive test result -- and he is expected to play in the season opener Sunday at New England, the source said.Odom is appealing the positive test but it is not known how long that process would take. He is expected to be allowed to play through that process. The source said that Odom takes medications for certain medical conditions but would not specify those conditions or the prescribed medications. The positive test result did not involved performance enhancing drugs, recreational drugs or alcohol, the source said.
membengal
Very interesting. Sounds extremely plausible. Guess we can pencil Odom back in. Glad to hear it.
ShulaSteakhouse
Yeah hopefully just a formality. The defense is better with him than without.
bwillycuse
Good news, I cant see him being suspended if this true. Especially if the Williams duo for Vikings haven't sat out a game yet for the starcaps ordeal.Still, whoever his doctor is should have cross referenced the list. Maybe let the agent know and clear it with NFL.

I would love to see the youngs guys get time to play. Dunlap didnt even suit up which sucks, so why not give him a chance. Bashing Odom seems like a popular thing to do these days, but I'll show restraint. Obviously he isn't physically sound and the reasons for that are so well documented they don't need to be repeated. That said, both Odom and Geathers have been fighting health issues and as a result they were not only completely ineffective, but vastly inferior to younger less experienced players who are available....including high draft picks like Dunlap and MJ. As for the latter, I expected to see more of him than I did, and I expected to see him used in more creative ways. Regardless, Odom sucks right now and shouldn't be starting or playing major snaps. He simply can't get within a sniff of the QB and his bullrush is easily negated. He's not only giving the Bengals NOTHING right now....he's probably incapable of doing more, yet his coaches made the decision that he should play over a presumably healthy 2nd round draft pick who had an outstanding preseason. Bottom Line: My damning finger of blame is pointed at Zimmer and Lewis, not Odom.
