Kazkal
Outside WR....Is that better? Shipley looks good so far, but we'll have to see, and he's a slot WR thats it. So you have a crystal ball that shows Shipley can only be successful in the slot? TJ & Hines well both lack outside speed have done a fine job on the outside when they aren't inside...Just think it's bit early to write off what he can and can't do when he's yet to play in a NFL game.. So you have a crystal ball that shows Shipley can only be successful in the slot?Shipley is your prototypical slot receiver. He's played the position forever and is a plug and play guy at the position.Heck, even the coaches and Carson both go on and on about his abilities in the slot. It's not that he couldn't be an outside guy, but I don't think that's the plan for him moving forward with this team.
Kazkal
I know his main Roll will be slot just like TJ was the guy who almost always went inside when Henry came on the field...But he'll probably have chance in future to be 2# guy unless Simpson or Caldwell Decide to finitely step up. jjakq27
so, who makes the roster now? cosby or simpson? simpson offers more, i think - cosby isn't needed on ST anymore with the Adam Jones resurgence. Briscoe to PS, obviously.Well it was Simpson or Cosby more likely with Byrant making the team..Now he's gone it's probably Cosby & Simpson with matt Jones or Briscoe trying to sneak onI think Simpson and Cosby make it, Jones gets released and Briscoe goes to the PS.As for the settlement, there should be some type of exemption for the team. They paid all that money upfront and got absolutely nothing for it. Their obligation should end with that.
derekshank
The only thing I like about this move is the one thing that I didn't like about the T.O. signing. It allows the bottom of the depth chart to be a lot younger.I was hoping Bryant was going to Chad's replacement next year, and that doesn't look likely now... but in the meantime at least Simpson will get to keep developing, Caldwell will continue getting better, Shipley will get a year under his belt, maybe even Briscoe will end up being a good player. In a year or two when Chad's time in Cincy does come to an end, the Bengals should have a roster full of young guys ready to step up instead of needing to panic and bring in older FAs whose best days have passed them by. volcom69
I guess i just dont understand why they didnt/couldnt put him on IR, or just wait a couple of weeks to see if his knee is that screwed up. Bryant has been saying that he is soon ready, now i dont know if that was a smoke screen, but he knows his body so if he was soon ready then did the Bengals make a mistake. If he ends up getting picked up by another team, and he actully produces it will make the bengals look stupid of this move. Then again we dont know how serious the injury really is. Just hope the Bengals made the right move. Only reason i like it is now the young guys get to play.
ArmyBengal
Yeah, I was thinking Briscoe might have a chance getting to the roster, but I think they definitely stick with Cosby and Simpson. It would be hard for anyone to look at our WR corps and be disappointed. Couple that with Gresham at TE and I think we are set.

You stick with what works. 2 WR sets depending who we have next year.PS,Overall we don't know will be decent next year and probably best just to wait for this year to end before judging,Chad very well could decide he's done with football or fall off the map in production like L.Coles. How does he know is he in the Bengals locker room!!! Whatever im sick the whole Bryant thing im ready to move on, just hope he dosnt sign somewhere and has a monster year. Otherwise it will make the Bengals look stupid for this whole deal.
ArmyBengal
I don't really care what the Bucs think about the whole thing. Had Bryant produced, their fans would still be pissed off. Like I said earlier though, glad we can move on from it...

No, no, no. As a matter of fact, I'm in far more of a mood to exhume and beat on a very dead horse. But it's a long drive to Seattle.
BengalszoneBilly
Ballsy of the Bengals to cut ties with their own big catch. The signing was completely underwhelming from the start. If they're going to make a dumb mistake, it's good that they're willing to admit to it so plainly and move foward.I wanted T.O. over Bryant from the start. Several months, and 7 million dollars in the crapper later, it's done.

That would make this even more horrible.Im still confused on this whole thing. Shoud of pup him in the begining, or put him on the IR now and see what happens next year. If his knee is getting better like he said then why not give him a shot and see what hes got. Guess we will never know
kingwilly
I am more irritated that this is how it ended. I would have preferred been proven wrong, that Bryant was the kind of healthy impact player they hoped he'd be. Instead, he we sit on a late August Sunday discussing how the Bengals felt they knew better than the rest, ignored the opportunities to grab Brandon Marshall or Anquan Boldin, and take the least proven and apparently still hurt Antonio Bryant for the bargain price of $28M. Whoever let SoP out of the garage needs to be the one who puts him back so this season can get going. His greasy fingerprints are all over this fiasco, along with those of Snowflake.NADS. cincyhokie
There is a bright side. What if they don't cut Bryant in fear of wasting money and with the hopes he could come back and produce?Of course, we'd be pissed that the Bengals didn't just cut their losses. They made a mistake. They aren't throwing good money after bad. They cut their losses. Move on. At least they're getting better with being honest with themselves. One step at a time here. COB
Good for the Bengals and Mike Brown. No need to compound the mistake. Cut bait, move on. Too often in the past the Bengals have carried mistakes to try and recoup money ill-spent.+1It sucks to see this happen, but better to cut the cord so we can keep a Cosby or a Simpson or a Briscoe.Yes. Acting like a grown-up franchise. Injury settlement and move on. I like it, and wish Bryant good health and success in the future.
Sea Ray
I guess i just dont understand why they didnt/couldnt put him on IR, or just wait a couple of weeks to see if his knee is that screwed up. 1.55 million reasons why. They obviously made the call that his knee is screwed up pretty bad. Of course this is the same medical staff that OK'd the 4 yr deal to begin with. If he does come back and produce then it'd be a double mistake on the part of their vaunted medical staff

Several months, and 7 million dollars in the crapper later, it's done.Yeah man, I'm a Bills fan and I wanted T.O. back on the Bills but our new coach and GM were on a youth movement. So we didn't offer him anything. And it's weird because if you watch Bills games from last year, T.O. was hands down our best player besides Jairus Byrd. He still has the speed to get separation. He still makes all the cuts. He has dropsies on some easy catches, but he redeems himself with some amazing grabs later on.The dude will be great until he's 40ish just like Jerry Rice, I guarantee it.I'm with you in that I thought the Bengals should have signed him from the start of FA. BTW, Carson Palmer actually called Ryan Fitzpatrick to ask about T.O. and see if he still had it. Fitz gave him a pretty big endorsement.
