Kazkal
Well with us taking 2 WR"s in the draft and a returner in shipley seen a few posts about Quan being the oddman out...Just my own opinion but I think it's a no brainer keeping him on even if he isn't the returner because of his special teams play...The 6th WR/5th Gameday tends be a special teamer so really feel He'll edge out a mattjones,Simpson or one of the other "larger" targets. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbSaXAEoYvQ watching the shipley Highlight reminded me of the Quans block for him where he destroys the guy about to get shipley from behind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M459eZERP4E then blocking like in the steelers game for Bernards Touchdown

volcom69
Loved that last video could watch that over and over.I hope they keep Quan, and please get rid of Jerome he is just not working out, he cant even get on the field.

derekshank
I can't disagree with you much Kaz. Cosby was a great ST player last year and offers the kind of skills you look for at the bottom of the depth chart.I said it in another thread, but I'm not really thinking Shipley was brought in to replace Cosby. With his skill set, he's much more likely to replace Housh a year late.Matt Jones will only make the team if he flashes the ability to make a regular impact on gamedays the way Henry did. If not, he's out. There isn't room on the depth chart. I like Purify as a ST player as well, with upside... and Palmer likes him. I think a lot will come down to who can contribute most on ST while being solid WR depth. And that makes me think that it'll be Cosby and Purify, with Briscoe on the PS. ArmyBengal
There have been reports about Caldwell taking up boxing this offseason and him really putting in the time to get ready for the season. I think the drafting of Shipley will really light a fire under his ass more than any other player and think the camp battle for the WR spot will be greatly contested. Matt Jones is going to have to be perfect to earn a spot on this WR corps and it would surprise me in the least to not see him on the roster come cut downs.I really hope Cosby sticks, because he was the one guy I really wanted the Bengals to draft in the late rounds last year and to see him make the roster as an UDFA and make the impact he did, says a lot about him as a player and his character. He's one of my favorite players from that aspect.
volcom69
I like compition at this postion remember last year there were alot of drop balls, in the middle of the field and in the red zone. So the more WR they have the more compition and i like that.

WTF 11:52 AM Apr 24th via Echofon Why do people think I'm mad that we signed Shipley congats to him Just like I competed to get the slot WR imma compete to keep my position.Jerome on the other hand has not twittered since the draft...Must be busting his ass all the sudden
ArmyBengal
If Jerome did twitter, it would probably read something like:"We drafted how many WR's ??""F*CK""Someone get the Bears on the line"
cincyhokie
The oddmen out could very well be Matt Jones and Jerome Simpson. I'd be perfectly ok with that.

And idk maybe we cut a Dlineman and keep quan for 7 recievers... Never know.. I just dont think quan'll make it.

BlainThePain
Matt Jones is a beast on third downs. I see him making the team on that fact alone.

TJJackson
Quan was an absolute ***STAR*** at PR for us last year. Go look up his average and compare to other PRs who has at least 20 PRs. You'll see he ranked up there with pro Bowl type names(You guys need to start respecting special teams more :-))He also caught virtually every ball thrown his way, what few times he was thrown toQuan is a valuable player, far more so than I would have guessed. One of the best Bengals UDCFAs ever, as far as I am concerned, maybe just a shade under.....well........you know.......this guy....... COB
(You guys need to start respecting special teams more :-))I agree with what BengalPimp Junior wrote above. Quan is the ideal depth guy, he can play reciever if need be, but he is an excellent teams player - a double whammy because not only does he perform that role, he keeps your starting receiver from having to do it. He's Marvin's type of player, versatile, tough, unselfish.

HairOnFire
Quan was an absolute ***STAR*** at PR for us last year. Agreed. So why replace him with Shipley? And if the Bengals didn't actually do that, then why should I care about Shipley's return skills, which are being touted as one of the reasons he wasn't a 3rd round reach? TJJackson
Quan was an absolute ***STAR*** at PR for us last year. Agreed. Be still my beating heartHair agreed with meGonna see if I can get two in a row from him - hey Hair! Water is wet! Your take? So why replace him with Shipley? Not sure he replaces Quan. I dont see adding a player who can contribute on special teams as a minus. Quan gets injured, you still have to have someone field punts. And if the Bengals didn't actually do that, then why should I care about Shipley's return skills, which are being touted as one of the reasons he wasn't a 3rd round reach?See above. To me, the perfect arrangement is all the backup WRs have return skills - one goes down, you plug in the next one.

The man earned his pudding, and I'm not afraid to acknowledge it.Gonna see if I can get two in a row from him - hey Hair! Water is wet! Your take? That's not water. You've pissed yourself again. I dont see adding a player [shipley] who can contribute on special teams as a minus. And I don't see how it's a much of a positive if somebody on the team is already filling the role very capably. To me, the perfect arrangement is all the backup WRs have return skills - one goes down, you plug in the next one. Under the circumstances shouldn't those same WR's also be capable of playing safety or offensive guard?

I'd ask you to be reasonable but we know that ain't happenin anytime soon :-)
