Ickey44
Zimmer was asked about it yesterday and said he hasn't talked to them. He says whether he stays or goes is up to the Bengals.
gregstephens
And I understand Brown can't outbid Snyder if Snyder wants him bad enough. I'm just saying a major effort must be made to keep Zim or I may just defect to the WDR!!!
Ickey44
Well hopefully we make a deep playoff run and Shanahan doesn't end up waiting for him. I just hope Zimmer feels like he wants to continue to build upon what he's started here if he's offered no head coaching jobs.
jjakq27
http://cincinnati.com/blogs/bengals/2010/01/05/zimmer-discusses-redskins-rumors/With Mike Shanahan expected to be hired as the next Redskins coach any day now, the rumors of Mike Zimmer’s departure to become Washington’s defensive coordinator have increased the past couple days. Zimmer’s contract with the Bengals expires after this season and the two sides have not talked about an extension since the bye week. ”That’s really up to Cincinnati, it’s really not up to me,” Zimmer said. ”They can approach me at anytime they want and if they don’t want me I’ll move on. ”I’ve not talked to Mike Shanahan or anyone from the Redskins. It’s all rumors and speculation. It’s not for me. I promise you it’s not for me.” The one thing Zimmer is concerned about is getting the defense back on point, especially after allowing 257 rushing yards in the loss to the Jets. ”It was embarrassing. It wasn’t just embarrassing, it was extremely embarrassing,” Zimmer said. ”We didn’t play good. I don’t know if we’re a great defense but we’re a solid defense. We play good and we did not play that way on Sunday. But when you go back and look back with our performances throughout the year when we have not had a good performance we have followed up with a pretty good one.”
gregstephens
I say give Zim the Jason Garrett contract, or at least understanding. Zim, you stay here as DC, we'll give you a hefty raise, and when Marv's done here, you da' man.

I'm just saying a major effort must be made to keep Zim or I may just defect to the WDR!!!Trumpy and Lapham are both questioning the lack of proactive movement on Zimmer's status, almost every week on their show, and verbally panning Mike Brown for not doing anything. We'll see what happens, it sounds like he wants to be a HC though, but admitted he's basically open to signing here, but hasn't heard from them in weeks. It would be different if he had said something else, but, he didn't, so I take his word for it. Your contract is up. Once the playoffs are over, you will have teams beating down your door.Especially if the Bengals make any noise at all in the playoffs.Imagine just for a minute that the Bengals actually win the Super Bowl. You can pretty much punch your own ticket for any available opening.Zimmer has no reason to sign anything right now. None, zip, zero, nada. HAPPYJAQ
I don't believe that money will be the deciding factor for Zimmer. If you listen to him closely, he really wants to be a HC somewhere. Unless he gets an Assistant HC title from a team like Washington or Buffalo (which would make him a more attractive HC candidate in, say, 2011), I think he stays. It's exactly what happened with Marvin in going to Washington, ironically, before he came here. As coveted as Zim will be as a coordinator, I don't think his resume or his name recognition is enough to get him a HC job at this point. Just look at how long it took for Schwartz, Spagnoulo and others who ran defenses that were consistently in the Top 5, to get a shot. As unfair as it is, it seems that offensive coaches get the first cracks when a HC opportunity opens up...even the recycled, former-offensive gurus (like Shanahan, Billick, etc.). I don't know how true it is, but I also remember reading earlier in the year that Zim's personality has also been a hinderance as far as past HC consideration goes. Apparently, he cusses too much in the minds of a few owners and GMs who wonder how well he'd do being the face of an NFL franchise.

Kazkal
”That’s really up to Cincinnati, it’s really not up to me,” Zimmer said. ”They can approach me at anytime they want and if they don’t want me I’ll move on.Ask the man what he wants and give it to him :| If it's top Paid Coordinator fine,He wants GM power? Okay do it Assistant Head coach? Demote Alexander he's not even a Marvin guy but a Mikey...Then like as mentioned put it in his contract that he's the next Headcoach who knows Maybe Marvin Decides he rather Move on after next year if he has another good season. HairOnFire
Thats really up to Cincinnati, its really not up to me, Zimmer said. They can approach me at anytime they want and if they dont want me Ill move on." Well, since you brought it up....the above remark seems remarkably disingenuous. Or perhaps it's just poorly worded. After all, Zimmer has admitted the Bengals approached him weeks ago....before the above remarks were uttered. As for not wanting him, have the Bengals hinted even once they didn't wanat Zimmer back? Not that I've read or heard. Finally, Zimmer is fully aware he can move on whether the Bengals want him or not. Again, maybe it's just a poor choice of words on Zimmer's part, but it sure isn't the type of plain speak the man is known for.
COB
Ask the man what he wants and give it to him ...,He wants GM power? Okay do it What? Make a career coordinator our new GM? While we're at it, make Pumpkin our new linebackers coach and JB can head up the scouting. Seriously, the Zimmer mania has to have a limit. If he wants to be D coordinator, yes, let's keep him. jjakq27
http://blogs.nfl.com...zimmer-haslett/ Redskins plan to meet with Zimmer, HaslettFollowing up on the Redskins defensive coordinator search, which I touched on earlier this week. The Redskins are very interested in Mike Zimmer as a defensive coordinator, but could face competition from other clubs looking to hire the Bengals coordinator as a head coach. The Redskins are prepared to meet with Zimmer this weekend should the Bengals lose to the Jets, but also plan to meet with Jim Haslett, a former NFL head coach, according to a league source. Haslett is very interested in bringing in veteran defensive line coach Tim Krumrie wherever he lands should he get back in the NFL (he coached in the UFL this season), according to sources, after the Chiefs fired Krumrie this week. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has been continually intrigued by the prospects of going to a 3-4 scheme, which is part of the reason why Haslett is so attractive. Ickey44
And that's why the Bengals need to win this weekend. The longer teams have to wait, the more chance vacancies are filled by the time our season is over.

HAPPYJAQ
Did Denver run the 3-4 when Shanny was there? They ran a 4-3, which was obviously a mistake, as Elvis has turned into maybe a best pash-rusher in the league standing up. As I've said before, I think if Zim does in fact defect to another team, we're OK with FitzGerald running the D. Fitz is a Marvin disciple, and he'd be a great promotion. It might also usher in the 3-4, in which many Bengals fans have been clamoring for years to be used as the base D. I've always been a fan of Jim Mora (junior version), and he's out there now, as well. Not to bring up the often-discussed 3-4, but we just might have the personnel now, and Marvin has been looking to run it since he missed out on Manny Lawson and Derrick Harvey in consecutive drafts.
