membengal
I thought derek covered it. If you don't get that, you don't get that. No, I'm sorry. I don't have your level of enlightenment yet. Forgive me. I don't get why anybody on this board gives a crap about what people that are paid to stir pots say about this team. And face it, that's what the sports media is paid to do. They suck up to the popular markets. They take the easy bashes. They double track and jump on bandwagons when it becomes the popular and ratings-wise thing to do.But hey, keep losing the sleep over the whole 'respect' issue. I'll remain blissfully less educated than you and be happy in the team's performance. I have no reason to go all Terrill Owens because "that's my team you're talking about" and cry if they don't get enough love.Of course, I already covered that as well. So if you don't get that, you don't get it.Who's losing sleep? Where has that been in anything on here? Nice strawman Greg. Who's going Terrell Owens? What kind of weird projection are you about tonight? And, no, I don't feel like explaining it to you further. Clearly you are the enlightened one, and I can only hope to one day ascend to your level of zen. As for now, I would prefer analysts to take their heads out of their asses and be honest about what this team is getting done.
gregstephens
Bottom line for the whole respect thing is that there are at least 25 teams that envy the record and position we have in the 2009 season in the NFL. Only 3 teams have an easier road into the playoffs than us.And that pretty much sums it up doesn't it?
kingwilly
Well, I think Carter hit the nail on the head just before Key mangled our head coach's name. That point being, that the media aren't being honest with themselves about the Bengals, and that if it were just about any other team that had swept the Steelers and Bengals, they're be talking about them and the Super Bowl. They get no respect because they're the Bengals.Frankly, I fully expect that if they win the SB, the first comment we hear the next day will be, "OK, the Bengals won the World Championship, but we won't know if they're for real until they win it again next year."That nails it right on the head. Also why I won't piss my pants like others on here about who's loving the team this week.It will be as interesting to see who jumps off te bandwagon when the bengals next lose. This is why observing this stuff is interesting, the part about "Why" they are gushing about the team. Why does it matter where the 'analysts' heads are? You expect the 'analysts' to be honest when we, the long suffering fan base as a whole is reluctant to do it. Face it, most long-time Bengals fans are still cautiously optimistic because they've been let down too much in the past. We take it one game at a time even if that next game is the Super Bowl. But, I know, it's already been explained to me, I was too stupid to get, strawmen and whatever else you throw in there to deflect the points, so we move forward, don't we? membengal
Just lost a follow-up post for some reason.Greg, you are being a bit of a douche, but I will give it a shot. I am guessing you are localish to Cincinnati. I am not now, and have not been, since May of 1996. For 14 years, I have had little outlet for NFL talk save for national shows and talking heads and local chatter (which was Titans, and now Ravens). And for a LOT of those years, "same old Bungles" was the refrain, and there was no way to avoid it. I couldn't slip into Cincy talk and avoid it with other fans, just kind of had to listen to it.So yeah, now that they have turned a corner, especially defensively, and have a different look about them, it would be nice, for me, stuck having to listen to it if I want NFL talk, to hear some honesty. You want McAllister at night, you flip on the radio. It takes considerably more effort for me to get Bengals talk like that. And, really, you can't understand why it is nice to hear nice things about the Bengals, really? That is beyond you? You are smarter than that, greg. Further, what do you care that some people would like to hear decent things? Why does that bother you? And, clearly, it does, because you never fail to jump in these threads and tsk tsk over such conversation, so well done at doing so again. But, hey, maybe some day I will get to your level of enlightenment. In the meantime, kindly stop scolding me for enjoying nice things being said.

Part of being a fan of any team is being able to enjoy the times when everyone else isn't pointing and laughing at the mediocrity (for some that is less often than others). So, here we are. The Bengals are relevant this year as opposed to last year when I had to show up to work every week and admit that "Yeah, we suck." Is it so wrong for me to want non-Bengal fans to recognize the achievements that have made? Is it somehow an unevolved desire for me to want a Steeler fan to note, "Damn, that defense is stingy!" The Bengals are no longer the NFL's whipping boys. And whether or not the media as a whole is as optimistic as I am, it is nice to hear an intelligent opinion that doesn't bash the Bengals because of their past. It's also nice to be able to come here and talk about it with like-minded Bengal fans without someone trying to make it seem like I'm being petty or insecure. Because I'm neither. HoosierCat
Speaking only for myself, I long ago stopped caring very much what the pundits thought, though I enjoy calling out egregious BS, like Pete Prisco's lame attempt to scramble back onto the bandwagon after he leaped off following after week one. It's nice to hear good things about the Bengals...but to me it's even more enjoyable watching the media tie itself in knots trying to justify pooh-poohing the team's success. The Bengals are good, and they can't stand it! It's driving them absolutely bugf*ck! Every week, it's the week the Bengals turn into the Bungles again...and they just keep not doing it! There is steam coming out of the media's collective ears. Will you lose already and validate our own self-important opinions!I love this season.
