He's threatening to leave. I don't want him to leave, but that's on him.

As I understand it, lot's of people are thinking about leaving....in large part because clowns like MamaBear aren't strong enough, or smart enough, to leave.

mem already posts over at gobengals so I call BS there.

As far as anyone else leaving as opposed to putting me on ignore, maybe they can all start a forum where they all agree with each other about how l33t the Bengals are.

My understanding is this forum is to discuss the Bengals, good and bad. But again, the 4 or 5 loudest so-called "real fans" here blow up anything that doesn't meet their approval. If this forum ever begins to cater to douchebags like that, then it risks becoming like other Bengals Forums that only allow praise and high-fives, like gobengals for example.

Nevermind how childish it is to threaten to "take your marbles and go home" if you don't get your way.

No i think its because, you like to stir up trouble, always saying things just to pi** people off, and you dont stop harrasing when asked to. Its fine if you dont like the team or think they will have a bad year, but you dont have to ruin it for people who actully enjoy coming here and like to root for this team.

You really don't get it, do you?

People don't think you're an idiot because they believe the Bengals are "l33t."

They think you're an idiot because you act like you've had some special revelation about the Bengals.

News flash: you haven't.

I wrote every one of your posts. 15 years ago.

You either come to terms with Mikey and move on, or find something else to occupy you Sundays come fall.

What Hoosier said.

Greg and I are coming to an accord, slowly, be we are getting there.

It's not like I am pollyanish about this team's prospects, guessing them for 7-9.

What I do object to, from whomever, is always casting EVERYthing this team does as worst case or potential worst case scenario. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, ya know?

1st round draft choices on occasion get hurt. It does not necessarily have to mean that it will be worst case. This fanbase is too much like an abused woman, tired of getting beaten, cringing in the corner.

There's no need to be like that. And, it's why derek and others have begged people to ignore GHD. Thread policing, GHD? Please. You thread nuke. God forbid the occasional person should mention there might be some balance. Again, 7-9. I challenge you to discuss my pie-in-the-sky fandom.

As for Go-Bengals, I do indeed post over there. On occasion. 52 posts in two years. As opposed to the 1000 or so I have had on this forum in the same timeframe. My preference is clear. But this forum of late has been harder and harder to post in constructively. And that has to change, if it is going to be a place people keep wanting to come to.

Greg, again, I am sorry you felt like I was calling out your article. I was not. I had an issue, and continue to have an issue, with how you initially framed it. And I reject needing to pile on to the national feeding frenzy that roots/expects bad things to happen to this team. That's what I get especially tired of in these parts. There's enough of that already, if it becomes the sole/primary focus in here, this forum really will be done. And no one wants that. Except perhaps GHD, who loves misery...

Not that I care very much, but recently I've started to notice how often you complain about thread police, being picked on by everyone, and the unfairness of it all.

Suck it up, tough guy.

You, and a couple of hundred others.

You either come to terms with Mikey and move on, or find something else to occupy you Sundays come fall.

But there's the rub, because the rebels have found something else to do on Sundays. They root against the Bengals. In fact, at WDR they've just landed an official meeting place for ex-fans to gather, watch the game, and of course....cheer themselves on.

I'm willing to go along with whatever board consensus is reached, but yeah....we need to address the elephant in the room.

What should be done with a troll who claims he's still a fan, but very clearly isn't? Do we treat him like any other troll would be treated OR do we continue to tolerate his presence simply because he claims to be something he no longer is, and probably never was.

After a great deal of thought on the matter I say we kill him and then wait and see who steps into his place. Then, after a new troll steps up we kill that guy, too.

But that's just me.

Man, I actually put in an honest day's work for once instead of posting here, and look what I miss.

1) Are we letting it go with Greg's article, or what? Greg, we love you man, but that was some serious bad timing. Given the angst that had already been expended on the Andre Smith thing, which ended up tangled with the "forum troll" issue, we had a rather flammable situation and you were the guy who lit it. Now, if it was unintentional (which I believe), that's OK. I'll give you benefit of the doubt that you weren't intentionally trolling, which would be kind of uncool under the circumstances.

2) As to the forum troll issue...I'm in favor of not moderating them so long as they stay on topic (ie, no personal insults or blatant attempts to hijack the thread to non-Bengals topics). I don't think he's a fan of another team, because really, who the HELL is going to put in that sort of time to screwing with Bengals fans? I think he's an honest fan, if overly pessimistic and a little deranged. But then, as we've discussed ad nauseum, we're all kind of touched in the head by definition because we're Bengals fans. Sure his pessimism is extremely repetitive, but I don't see it as a reason to ban him.

Don't know if the software supports it, but probably the best system I think is to allow people to moderate posts up/down, with the ability to screen posts by threshold. That way you only see quality posts like mine. ;)

All good ideas have come before us. That being said, I appeal to history for proper troll-disposal instructions. Enjoy.

well that's embarassing. Here's a direct link, less suspense though.

I've been out of the house for about two hours, but agree with mem that we are hashing this out. I understand his point of view (shared by others no doubt), and how all of this initially came down. And I'm not, I don't believe, the type that is all Mr. Negative as to the team. I wait nine months to see this team play every year, and every year I start fresh with Super Bowl hopes. I have those hopes this year, but also being realistic, I put us between mem's 7-9 and maybe even 9-7. That's the spread I see, so I don't think the 'sky is falling' so to speak.

Anyway, I apologize to everyone that got dragged into this. Mem, like I said, you and I have always gotten along. No hard ones here. Move forward?

Moving forward. You and I are cool. Always have been, disagreements included. If it helps, I am an ass. I thought we were all on the same page on that score...

And hoping the bengals blow my expectations out of the water.

yaneverknow.

No, there was no deliberate trolling on my part. I wrote the article, posted it as usual albeit with an unplanned snafu with the original thread title and didn't really measure the climate of the forum into the equation.

2) I agree with your position on the forum troll issue. WhosTomBrady was a much different circumstance because he just blatantly wanted to piss people off into arguments and smash threads. Whereas find the issues annoying at times, I've never really felt it's gotten so out of hand to come down on it.

Anyway, glad mem and I could help you guys pass one more day before the regular season by mixing things up and adding some spice. :sure: I guess we just wait to see what takes it place tomorrow.
