That's fine, but I strongly disagree. Smith is a very good natural tackle, and immediately will be better than Collins or Whit, I want him in there in whatever capacity to get ready for the opener.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Mr. Alvin Keels...

You watching TJ?

Bernard Scott just ran around for what seemed like 20 minutes in the backfield to find 6 yards somewhere. Not too bad since there was no blocking on that play.

Eldest daughter's birthday tonight - yes, this was/is more important than football :-)

Bernard - he must not have done well with his other carries because his final stats are not good.....but I am glad he showed something ....errr....I read the wrong line, ok, hey, 5 yards a carry and a 12 yard catch, and no fumbles? Nice.

Did he do any blocking, and if so, how well did he do?

Scott was perhaps the most impressive part of the Bengals night (other candidates would be first team D, Kevin Huber, and Cheech). Every time he touched the ball he gained two yards more than he should have, he hit the holes hard and was very quick. He had a nice catch in addition to his rushing totals. He had a 15-yard (or so) run called back on a holding penalty on A. Caldwell. In a stretch of seven plays, he looked good on six of them.

I was not able to see any camp this year, so this is the first time I've seen him. I was VERY impressed. I'm not saying he's the next coming of Barry Sanders, but he now has the inside track to be the change-of-pace back to Benson.

I guess now is as good a time as any to queue up the Whitney Houston music, eh Greg? :-)

Looks like (for now) I picked a good one!

Would still like to know if he did any blocking, tho.....thats definitely the area he has the least experience with, and ergo the probable weak link in his game

I could only think of you and Whitney during that fourth quarter.

Actually, I didn't see him do much blocking, but then again, he didn't have that much to block for. He was pretty much the entire offense that last quarter. Besides, with his size, it ain't gonna be his strong suit.

Who the hell is 21....

Fletcher.

Are these really the CB's the Bengals are going with after Joseph and Hall? Go sign someone!

To quote Brandt from the Big Lebowski: "This is our concern, Dude".

They need some depth at CB. SF snagged Dre Bly and he went crazy tonight.

My concern is that a lack of QB pessure, paired with lack of CB depth (and Roy William doing an Ohalete impersonation), will result in smoked salmon out of Leon and JJoe. God forbid one of them sprains their hair or gets a hangnail.

I'd like to see Scott get a few some opportunities against a first team defense. But there's no doubt about the fact that he looked impressive.

I'm actually surprised he looked as good as he did. I knew he was talented... but like Jerome Simpson found out, dominating at a small school doesn't translate immediately to the NFL.

Still, I keep my optimism tempered because he wasn't playing with the 1st team... but Benson also looked good, and Leonard even had a nice catch and run out of the backfield. I'm feeling better about the Bengals RB's all the time.

Worrying about Palmer being hurt by him being in the lineup is silly.

No it's not. You can't just make some guy a starter right off the street, which is what Smith is right now. On the street. He hasn't worked with the team since May. And that was without pads.

You don't put him in there until you know he knows what he's doing and what his responsibilities are. If he were to sign today, you put him with the second stringers to see where he's at and how he'll do, then you can ease him in with the starters if he does well.
