Can't wait to see him get back out there and get another chance to show Cincinnati that he's ready to step up his game... Kudos to the Bengals head office for giving the young gun one last chance!!!Now if I can just find my old Chad and Chris Henry avatar!?!? Stripes
Interesting. He has quite a few players in front of him on the depth chart that will all very much want to keep him on the bench. I always like added competition, especially at question mark positions. I'm not overly thrilled that the new competition comes in the form of Chris Henry, but whatever. He's less important than he was last season, so if he f**ks up again the worst we'll see is criticism from TV pundits. Oh the horror. I bet he came cheap too (not that he was expensive before). membengal
Guess CJ's injury is serious. Caldwell too.Guess the team is fated to always do things that make you scratch your head. The odds of Henry having "turned the corner" are about zero, but, hey, maybe it's lightning in a bottle. Probably not.
richmond_mat
Wow.I'm at a loss for words. The F***** can't even play until week 5. IF he gets re-instated.dammit Brown.... let this fool go. This move, obviously orchestrated by Mike Brown, does nothing but undermine Marvin's authority. Coach Lewis made it plain he did not want Henry back. No wonder the team looks confused on the field. It simply reflect what's going on up stairs in the teams offices.I hate to say it but I think this could be the beginning of the end for Marvin. Gone is the upbeat, enthusiastic man from just a few years ago. It is apparent that he is losing the battle and the war at the same time. Also, how can Henry help if he is suspended for the first four?Amen to that. To me this reflects very poorly on the offensive coaching staff, especially the coordinator. You make due with the players you have and WIN some how, some way. But Brat has his dozen plays that only work with the right talent.I am exasperated with this team.

rwalling
A man is only worth what his word is worth and the thread thusfar has shown that both Marvin and Mike Brown are not men of their word. If this is true, then all of their talk of players with integrity and character is just that words. They just sacrificed their integrity for a chance to marginally improve their season. Their is no way this move is worth what it costs. Period. The respectable teams in the league would never fathom a move like this. This is a one way ticket back to the Bengals being a laughing stock, not for the quality of their play, but their total lack of integrity in the front office. I really thought Marvin was above this kind of stupidity. Every shread of respect he regained in the locker room this summer ... GONE! chandon
It looks like we're taking a gamble - a gamble born of necessity because of the injuries to our offensive weapons. But unfortunately, our esteemed FO doesn't have much choice. I have stated in another thread that I am more worried about TJ's hamstring than anything else, and I can see little way of making the Playoffs without him. I would say it was more serious than stated, as you don't leave your No. 1 receiver out until the opening game unless you absolutely have to. Being fit and ready is only part of the battle....you also need to be game-sharp. That's part of the pre-season strategy - get everybody back to playing competetive games. If TJ is not ready to even play a preseason game, then he will not be ready for Game 1. Hence the urgency of Henry.I just hope he can keep himself clean and focused, and return to the form we have seen before. I don't like the signing...smacks of a U-Turn and will be seen as such by the media...but it may just be something we need to do for now. TJJackson
If I am Marvin....I turn in my resignation the moment Chris Henry's ink hits his new contract, and I sit out (he's been paid handsomely for some time now, and can take some time off) this year, maybe next (depending on how long the Bengals can hold him due to his existing contract through 2010) and will be in high demand when available again.I am serious. It might be best for the team long term as well, as Mike Brown learns (again, perhaps for the 1000th time) that poor decisions lead to bad consequences

jonf45uk
Absolutely stunned. We all know what ability he has on the field, and his "abilities" off it. so lets hope the former shines through, cos there aren't going to be many other teams willing to take a huge chance on him.Lets just hope he can stay out of trouble long enough for us to enjoy him being on the fieldjon

kentjett
Henry has always been a good teammate that nobody on the team has ever complained about. He doesn't mess up the chemistry near as much as a bitter Chad. He is a jackass and I'm sure he is walking a very fine line but I'd much rather see him blow up in a Cincy uniform than a Ravens one. The Bengals had nothing to lose from this signing besides the media bashing on them and they're used to that so it's no big deal. We needed him, plain and simple. We need to welcome him back and hope he turns the corner ala Josh Hamilton. If he screws up, he's gone for good. I think it's a good signing even though I hate the guy as a person outside of the football field. Lets hope he can help bring the passing game back to the 2005 era. It obviously reeks of desperation since with this move ML and MB have flushed whatever was left of their integrity regarding what they say to the media. And TJ, I like your post. If Marvin is totally against this move then your idea makes much sense.
duus
Although I completely disagree with bringing him back, I am not surprised ... I've been a Bengals fan way too long to be surprised by something like this. I am also trying to look at it in yet another way. Injuries, desperation, etc aside ... there is zero doubt that if Henry was to be given another 'chance' then that chance would be undoubtedly his very last for the NFL teams and NFL in general. The point is that he surely would have been given one more chance from somebody. He will either succeed or fail completely with this next chance. It will be his last. Why not allow that very last chance to be with our Bengals? If he does the unthinkable (and highly unlikely) and cleans himself up then he'll be well worth this last chance. If he screws up again, then he is not only done with the Bengals, but will be done completely in the NFL. If someone else was to give him this final opportunity, who wouldn't hate it if we had to sit and watch him catch long touchdowns for a division rival? By our Bengals giving him this look, we pretty much guarantee he either succeeds with us or succeeds with no one.

If you think we can compete with Dallas, Indy, and NE with a guy like Chatman as our #3, you're out of your skull... I'm not saying that Henry is the savior and the one player that puts us over the top, but he sure doesn't hurt this team.
damiancasey
I haven't read every post here but I have seen a lot of people putting responsibility with Mike Brown and not Marvin. Is this really MB that's driving this? Is there any proof anywhere? Or is this just everyone's theory? I haven't seen that in any media sources. Hell, if Henry can stay out of trouble then we are a better team on the field with him. However, by signing Henry and with Marvin and Mikey looking like complete fools by contradicting everything they have said, this team is still showing it lacks direction. The players see it and it doesn't send a good message. Marvin basically has no control and that's not the way to lead a disciplined football team when you're the head coach and you look clueless. Walrus
Ok, read through the thread. My initial reaction was almost verbatim what TJ wrote about Marvin's resignation. If Marvin wants to continue his career as head coach of the Bengals, he will do so with diminished authority -- apparently what he says carries no weight. Looks like the "Three-Headed GM" is now just a two-headed monster. If he wants to continue his career as an NFL coach PERIOD, he needs to maintain his credibility. He hasn't been able to control his players and will now probably be less able to do so. This is a bad situation. To quote Ricky Ricardo, they've got some 'splainin' to do.
