Bengals season prediction

too little pressure on the opposing QB (same as, well, pretty much every year)

Well... No Odom yet in the pre-season. And they haven't been blitzing much in the pre-season because... well, it's preseason. And last year they couldn't do much blitzing with the cast of 3rd string LB's they had playing.

I don't think the Bengals will all of the sudden become one of the best pass rushing teams in the NFL - but I also don't think they are as bad as they've been in the pre-season, nor will they be as bad as last year. I think Zimmer is going to blitz both LB's and Safetys fairly regularly and get better pressure and when Odom comes back he will help a lot more than Rucker and Fanene.

I guess all I'm saying is - I still don't think the Bengals are as bad as the pre-season has indicated. I said they were a 7-9 or 8-8 type team. I don't think they are a 10-6 team like some were saying before the pre-season, and I don't think they are a 4-12 team like some are saying now. My opinion remains consistent because I don't think they are a playoff team - but I don't think they are nearly as bad as they are showing.

Here's mine.

Ravens in Baltimore: I believe we'll narrowly win here.

Titans at home: Another narrow win.

Giants in New York: Blowout for the G-Men

Browns at home: Too tough to call. Could go either way.

Cowboys in Dallas: No question...loss.

Jets in New York: Another blowout loss in the Meadowlands.

Steelers at home: Loss. We never beat them at home.

Jaguars at home: Too tough call again.

Texans in Houston: Win, but not by much.

Eagles at home: Loss. Philly is too balanced of a team.

Steelers in Pittsburgh: Win. The visiting team continues to succeed between these two cities

Ravens at home: Bengals win

Colts in Indy: Loss. Not even close!

Redskins at home: Win. Don't ask me why.

Browns in Cleveland: Again too tough to call. If the Browns have playoffs on the line Cincy wins. If not...loss.

Chiefs at home: Loss. The Bengals have packed in in for the year.

Season results: 6-10, and that's being generous :(

I'll let my inner statistician do the work.

Estimated odds of winning by game:

Ravens in Baltimore: 75%

Titans at home: 60%

Giants in New York: 40% (esp. with Umi out)

Browns at home: 50%

Cowboys in Dallas: 10%

Jets in New York: 30%

Steelers at home: 40%

Jaguars at home: 40%

Texans in Houston: 50%

Eagles at home: Loss. 50%

Steelers in Pittsburgh: 40%

Ravens at home: 75%

Colts in Indy: 5%

Redskins at home: 75%

Browns in Cleveland: 50%

Chiefs at home: 90%

Season results: 7.8 "expected" wins if they all go by the chalk. Personally, I believe they can go 6-2 at home dropping one of (Steelers/Jags and one of Eagles/Redskins) and picking up wins at Baltimore, Cleveland and one game in NY for 9-7.

I still say it's to early to tell. Some players have yet to take a snap in a game (Rudi, TJ, Odom) to name a few. Who really knows what the defense has or has not been running in terms of scheme ?? Who knows the impact of the younger guys getting snaps in place of starters ??

While I will admit that I am not in the least bit happy with what I've seen to this point, I'm also not ready to say we are done before we start. I still think it could go either way. We also have no way to figure out how the team progresses as the season continues or the impact of the new coaches. I don't think game planning has been a strength of this coaching staff, but I'm willing to give a little slack to Zimmer to see if game time changes can be identified and made.

If the defense can find a way to step up, I think there will be MANY people suprised by the Bengals. I will play along and do the best with guessing...

at Baltimore- WIN

Tennessee- Could go either way

at New York Giants- LOSE

Cleveland- WIN

at Dallas- LOSE

at New York Jets- WIN

Pittsburgh- LOSE

Jacksonville- Could go either way

at Houston- WIN

Philadelphia- LOSE

at Pittsburgh- LOSE

Baltimore- WIN

at Indianapolis- LOSE

Washington- Could go either way

at Cleveland- Could go either way

Kansas City- WIN

So looking at that, I say no worse than 6-10 with the chance of 10-6 if things go well. That being said, 8-8 sounds about right in the give and take of "Any given Sunday"...

WHODEY !!!

Chad wanting out

Chad injured

Getting Back Jail Bait

I'll go with the minority: 9 or 10 wins, possibly more.

No way Jose.

We'll make the playoffs, but lose in the second round to New England.

I can see why you're a democrat. You'll believe anything.

Sample size.

At this point we look like a 4-12 team

Looking good.

As a newbie on this board, I predict a 10-6 season.

Maybe experience will help.

11 wins - and every starter that is out more than 2 games costs us a win. We are one of the thinnest teams in the NFL.

We are also one of the worst coached.

If they stay relatively healthy and play as well as they should I can see 10 or 11 wins for the Bengals.

I'll go with 10 for here:

1) @ Baltimore WIN

2) Tennessee WIN

3) @ N.Y. Giants L

4) Cleveland WIN

5) @ Dallas L

6) @ N.Y. Jets WIN

7) Pittsburgh L

8) Jacksonville WIN

9) @ Houston WIN

10) Philadelphia L

11) @ Pittsburgh WIN

12) Baltimore WIN

13) @ Indianapolis L

14) Washington WIN

15) @ Cleveland L

16) Kansas City WIN

10-6 = PLAYOFFS

Playoffs!?! Puhleeze.

3-13, maybe 4-12

too many injuries (same as last year)

too little pressure on the opposing QB (same as, well, pretty much every year)

too poor at blocking on the OL (all-new for 2008)

I think T.J. will be closest.

Here's mine.

Ravens in Baltimore: I believe we'll narrowly win here.

What do I know?

Are you feeling it now?

Ok, we are 0-6 and in looking at the schedule, it is a real possibility we may not win a game. I'm not just being the disgruntled fan either...

Steelers at home (NO)

At Texans (One of a several possibles)

Jaguars at home (NO)

Eagles at home (NO)

At Steelers (NO)

Ravens at home (One of a several possibles)

At Colts (NO)

Redskins at home (NO)

At Browns (One of several possibles)

Chiefs at home (BEST CHANCE OF A WIN)

This is just not looking good for us unless you are eyeing a top 3 pick. Well, I guess THAT would give us something to cheer for !!!

Oh yeah, is anyone still clinging to the thought that the play during preseason NOT translating to the regular season ??

1) @ Baltimore WIN<------No QB, Old D

2) Tennessee WIN<--------Awesome run game works before they are all hurt

3) @ N.Y. Giants WIN<-----the Giants are 0-3 after we have a turnover ratio of +9 in this game alone

4) Cleveland WIN<---------over rated douchers start Quinn because ANderson is out for the season from genital herpes

5) @ Dallas WIN<-----------Bengals hire Jessica Simpson to be a Cheerleader for the game

6) @ N.Y. Jets WIN<--------we end the career of yet another aging superstar

7) Pittsburgh WIN<---------entire Pittsburg over sleeps because a prankster changes Mickey's little hand back a few hours

8) Jacksonville WIN<-------the teams' plane takes them to Cincinnati Arkansas

9) @ Houston WIN<---------Bengals sign Romanowski for the rest of the season.

10) Philadelphia WIN<------Westbrook and McNabb are hurt by this point of the season anyways

11) @ Pittsburgh WIN<------digital clock runs out of batteries. Man these guys have trouble keeping time.

12) Baltimore WIN<---------CHad Johnson's first game back, 350 yards, he's only back because now all games are moved to Sunday night with them being undeated

13) @ Indianapolis WIN<----75-75 All offensive records are broken and the game ends in overtime

14) Washington WIN<-------Protestors of their logo keep them out of the stadium

15) @ Cleveland WIN<------overrated? check, overhyped?check, s**tty coach? check.

16) Kansas City WIN<------no QB and desperate they sign Kerry Collins who gets another DUI on the way to the stadium.

18-0-1

Marvin is still fired at the end of the season.

DANIMAL

Though I was joking around when I wrote this there is some stuff in it that is true already.

11 wins - and every starter that is out more than 2 games costs us a win. We are one of the thinnest teams in the NFL.

We are also one of the worst coached.

Let me see....Willie Anderson & Rudi Johnson never suit up, Palmer misses at least half the season, Rivers is out over half a year, assorted other injuries....I think that makes us, by my calculation, 0 - 25

Was I close??? :D

well good win today regardless if it messes the draft situation up. i thought id want them to lose regardless...but it was nice to see the fight still in them. soooo many players out right now and we can still compete. our first pick has to be a offensive lineman. our 2nd pick has to be a running back or secondary help. we also MUST get a FB in the draft by the 4th round or get one in free agency - that is a known guy - otherwise i hope our biggest free agent signing is a full back.

Can I get an a-men?

We'll make the playoffs, but lose in the second round to New England.

Err.....not from you, naturally

Here was my post from August, close on the W-L question. TBD on Marvin, Stacy and TJ...but looking good on 2 out of 3.

"post Aug 23 2008, 11:55 PM

Ok, I've seen enough to predict the season.

5-11 for the season.

Marvin Lewis resigns or is fired at the end of season.

TJ does not resign

Stacy 2 Steps does not resign.

Of course I could be wrong."
