HoosierCat
Not really a lot to take away from this one. Bengals defense did a good job against a completely one-dimensional Rams O...but we already knew they could shut down half a team; it's the teams that can run and pass they have problems with.Offense was really unimpressive. No TD passes from Palmer. O-line played terribly for the most part. Brat continued to give it to Rudi early when Watson and DeDe were clearly more effective. Horrible pick 6 by Palmer.But...we come away with a W, so props. Next up, the team I hate more than any other team in football...

jjakq27
You know with the decent play by the defense lately our boy Chuck is destined to be retained by the team. While they did a good job against Jackson and the Rams today, I am not sold on this guy at all. After their recent revival they are still in the bottom five. Hardly a ringing endorsement for him. membengal
I would like to see more from Dorsey. Why can't we see more from Dorsey?
teenbengal14
Because we still think its the same Rudi from 3 years ago.. Not to mention Rudi gets paid more.. I do love DeDe, he looked impressive..

I do love DeDe, he looked impressive..I think the only ones who think that are ML and Brat (and, yes, I know their opinion matters more). But, dammit, it was nice to see an elctrifying running back in this offense again with game-changing speed. I have no idea why they won't give him more looks and opportunities. None. HoosierCat
I have no idea why they won't give him more looks and opportunities. None.Money. Rudi makes big coin. They spent a first and more coin on Chris Perry. They spent a second and more coin on Kenny Irons. They spent even more coin to re-sign Kenny Watson as a FA this year.Bengals have always played the guys they paid for first...even if those guys aren't getting the job done. membengal
Eh, hoosier, how long ago was Rudi's extension? A few years back, right? I am not sold this is a cost thing. He could be cut next off-season and I suspect they would realize some savings or have a minimal cap hit. It is more of a philosophy thing, I suspect, that's where I have issues with the lack of use of Dorsey...Same response to the money spent on Irons (it's relatively not a big deal given he was a 2nd rounder) and Watson's money is no great shakes either. You play the guys you pay for...and that's not something that's limited to the Bengals. If you don't like thinking of it solely in $$ terms, also remember that at some level Marvin and the rest of the coaching staff have backed those signings. They need to justify their decisions as well. How does Marvin go in and argue that they need to keep backup X next year, when they kept a backup like Watson only to see him outshined by a desperation pickup like Dorsey? As long as this transpires, this team will be an also-ran. Sad.I mean, look at the situation. We have a Rudi who is less than 100%. But yet Watson is 100% and so is 3D...SO they go with the money back. Yes they won the game today but it was not because of Rudi. Rudi cannot at 100% make the plays that DeDe can. Now, one could argue that 3D cannot do what Rudi does, specifically grind for the 4-8 yards at the end of a game. But how do you really know? Rudi has proven to be durable, consistent, tough and a good "character" guy. As the case goes, Rudi has been hurt this year and had 1 100-yrd game. He has exhibited a serious inability to get the short yards and has no game outside the tackles. If he does not have a clear, developed hole he CANNOT get positive yards. Now if you place a 3D or Kenny in a position to hit the same hole when open they will get more yards because the are grossly faster and shiftier.Rudi will be cap cut come June. May God only intervene and prevent us from taking another RB <cough, McFadden, cough> when we are staring at a guy like 3D who shows every potential and has siezed every opportunity to start in the NFL. Levi Jones sat the bench for awhile early this year when he said he was healthy he makes a lot more jack than his backup. I think Marvin has a sense of loyalty to Rudi since he was here from the beginning of Marvin's tenure. The irony is that he really displaced Corey Dillon in 2003 by playing Rudi even though Dillon was supposed to be the featured guy. Once DIllon got healthy he never saw much action. Levi got put in right after he whinged whike a whittle girl. Dillon was just not as good as Rudi back then. Rudi used to have some real pop. Does anyone recall how helead the league in the preseason one year? He was a rocket and could even get outside back then.It may be ML, but then what does this say? Mikey, Marvin, it might just mean that bad decisions are contagious.
