Put me in the camp that reacted to the celebration with mixed feelings. On the plus side, as a Bengal fan I was thrilled that ANYONE scored a TD, and Chad clearly needed to break his TD drought. But the celebration itself was pretty lame, as most of them seem to be of late, and as it involved a prop it was guaranteed to draw a flag....and that's what stinks.

Since when do we applaud players who deliberately draw 15-yard penalties?

So call it a spark if you want, but what it really was is yet another selfish act from a very talented player who routinely puts his needs before those of the team, and the only thing that makes it more tolerable is that it happens so often it now feels like little more than the cost of doing business with a player whose levels of medication seem to need constant attention.

Finally, it felt like yet another missed opportunity for Chad to put behind him the types of criticism that Cowher and Esiason predictably and appropriately directed his way.

Yup, key word being selfish. I believe Tim Brown used that very word when Lance McAlister asked him about CJ. He knew he would be flagged, he knew he was hurting the team, but Chad just has to be Chad. The guy is an amazing football player, and seems to be a good guy. I just hope he gets it soon. Even if you love the guy, you have to understand that he is making his coach look like a complete fool.

Bad news. He won't. In his own words, "I cannot and will not change." My hope is he has a monster end to the season and becomes one of the most valuable commodities in the NFL. Then I hope he goes out, gets hammered, then accidentally runs over pumpkin's favorite labrador retriever.

I'd say Chad is only making himself look like a fool while putting Lewis in an impossible position. And I'm reminded of the Bengals previously publicized concerns that any form of discipline would prompt Chad to sulk and go into a shell.

As it turns out he sulked and went into a shell without being disciplined. All it took was a little criticism from the media, proving Chad Johnson to be more emotionally unstable and immature than previously feared.

Sheesh, can you imagine what would happen if Lewis came down hard on Chad?

That said, now that the Bengals aren't playing for anything but pride it's quite possible that Chad will turn it up again. After all, there's the Pro Bowl to consider....with all of the meaningless clowning opportunites it provides.

Chad needs to be benched for the next few games. He needs to learn that 3 tds, 12 catches and 103 yards do not make up for the 15 yards you cost this team. Thanks to you Chad the Bengals didn't have a chance to beat the Titans by 32 points instead of 29. Your penalty destroyed the moral of the defense making it possible for the Titans to drive into field goal range. It's just inexcusable. I don't really care if you play better when you are having a little fun. I'd rather you not be having fun and play like you have been the last month or so.

Why can't people just say the 15 yard penalty was stupid? It was, there's no grey area there.

I'm sick of talking about him and his nonsense.

Where was he the last 5-6 weeks when his team was knocked out of playoff contention?

Oh that's right, doing nothing, running bad routes and dropping critical 3rd down passes, then pouting on the ground and calling out his QB on camera like a 12 year old.

But hey he helped win one meaningless game! It's all about Chad.

I'd like to see him do it against a good team some day.

Nobody likes sarcasm more than me, but isn't it possible you're missing the rather obvious point about not permitting any player to decide when it's okay to deliberately incur a 15-yard penalty.

Just saying....

I see. So Chad is allowed to be selfish at times , because it helps him play better. On the opposite end of the spectrum, you have a guy like Lawrence Maroney, who may be a top 5 running back. Due to the game plan, he does not play a single snap for the entire first half of the Philly game and doesn't say boo. Maroney is playing for a ring, while CJ is auditioning for a future episode of the Sureal Life.

Do you want to be entertained, or do you want the Bengals to actually compete for something? I could care less if the camera stunt cost them three points. If you know you are going to get flagged and hurt your team, and you choose to do it anyway, you are selfish.

It was a stupid penalty, but did it really change anything in the game? We've got a lot more problems with this team than Chad getting a 15 yard penalty. We've had a lot more players get penalties this season that did end drives for the Bengals or continue drives for the opposition that didn't get as much scrutiny as this penalty. This penalty didn't change the course of the game. Some people just like to complain when a player has good or bad games. He is what he is and will always be. If you don't like it some of you should maybe stop watching the games.

I'm sick of everyone trying to pin this horrible season on one player.

I'm sure he's not going to make it a habit. When is the last time he got a penalty for a celebration? I don't really care about the 15 yard penalty. If it's what he needed to get out of his funk then so be it.

If we were 11-0 like the Patriots, this topic wouldn't even be here because nobody would care. It is a big difference when you are winning. People like to find a scapegoat when you are losing. Glad to see Chad has been elected.

Did it really hurt the team? Last I checked it didn't.

Did Chad act any different on Sunday than he did in 2005? Didn't hear a lot of complaints then.

OK then...fire Marvin!

It's not his fault.

I blame hip-hop.

If we just had a damn inflatable dome...

Maybe we could trade Chad for one...?

Maybe you could trade Chad for Corey Simon? I hear he's available.

And ask 'em to throw in Simeon Rice as a sweetner.

Only if we get Lavar too...:sure:

Wow, I assumed you were still pimping Peter Boulaware. I mean c'mon, he's got to be healthy by now, right?
