jjakq27
I believe this week will tell us a great deal about the makeup of this team and of it's coaches. I am willing to look past the Browns loss. After all we were just toasting them for their game against the Ravens the week before. However, how will they respond to the past week? The Pats stepped up and stuck it to the Chargers last week after all of the Belicheat scandal. But if the Bengals are a true playoff team then they have to win this game in Seattle Sunday. No moral victories here please. If you preach that you are one of the best, then what better way to show it than to go out west and get a big win against the Seahawks. In Marvin I still trust but I don't remember any of Dave Shula's teams gaving up 51 points to anyone. And if you throw in the game in 2004 the Browns scored 48 on us too. You could make a case that the Browns are one of the worst teams in that period. So I guess I am getting a little tired of these kind of losses. Good luck to the boys and bring home a winner but please quit telling us how good you are until you do it every week like the truly good teams do. BengalszoneBilly
Without total team consistency they'll never do anything more than pretenders. One week they look great, the next like crap. Consistency comes from being a well coached team, which the Bengals have showed time and time again they are not. I'm ready for Bresnahan to leave IMMEDIATELY, and this is Lewis's make it or break it year for me. Then he can be shown the door/kicked to the curb as well. HairOnFire
I agree moral victories won't be enough to overcome a 1-2 start that very likely will morph into a 1-3 hole after the Patriot game. They need this one, and if they manage that trick few will care how pretty or ugly it looked.
bengalboomer7
We're gonna find out her real soon JJ. Even though they suck, the Browns always seem to play us tough. My worries are starting to be more with the coaching staff(including Marvin). I try to keep in my head all the bad luck we've had on defense(pollack gone, idiotic Odell) but you can't tell me the talent isn't there on both sides of the ball. I'm starting to question if the staff we've got is good enough to get us to "elite" status. My father and I had an interesting conversation about some guys (Cowher, Schottenhiemer, and others) some of them scared me, but I wanna win and I think what we have is good enough now(and yesterday for that matter) and our inconsistencies and guys being out of position so much has to go on the men putting them in those positions in the first place
HoosierCat
Right now I don't think there's any question about it: they are a pretender. We are already conceding a loss to the Pats (almost certain to be in the playoffs) next weekend, the Bengals may fall to another likely playoff team, Seattle, tomorrow -- and they just got pasted by the Browns last week. At this point, the only thing the Bengals are a contender for is their old spot in the basement of the AFCN.That could change, if the team can get healthy. Unfortunately, it's collecting dings faster than it's healing them at the moment. Damn bye week can't get here soon enough.

Scottishbengal
PRETENDERS I said in the off season that I thought this was the "make or break" year for Marvin. Offencively we can't fail to be a success/threat with the tools we have - however the Defence still flatters to deceive and Marvins reputation as a defencive guru now hangs in the balance in my books.Bres has gone on record (bengals.com) saying this is the best D group he's had in Cincy. Well I'm sorry but if this is the best D group of PLAYERS then the COACHING is f**ked up - starting with Bres ending with Marvin.Marvin has done a lot for this franchise but is he the guy to take it to the next level? I hope so as I really like him, but I hate the results ala last weekend. The next two games will decide the Bengals sesaon. They will possibly decide Bres's future. I doubt if they will ultimately decide Marvins future as Mike Brown is a loyal guy (yeah, lets give some credit to MB here all you Marvin lovers), but no doubt questions will be being asked ...... volcom69
Cant agree more with everything u guys are sayin and if things dont get better well i hope Marvin is gone at the end of the season. Ive really never seen a team so inconsistant, i mean u have teams like the pats who loose there best def players and there playin with guys in the secondary u never heard of but yet for some reason they all gel toghter and play like a team. I think that has something to do with coaching and i just dont think he is getting the job done, so if this continues i think he should be shown the door after this year. Stripes
Contenders, just like they were two weeks ago. One game does not a season make.
pedroza29
I think week 2 is too soon to say kick Marvin to the curb and saying this team sucks. I will agree, I have never been more frustrated with a team in my life like I was last week. But you have to remember, 5 to 6 years ago, it would not of been so frustrating for the Bengals to lose, it would of just been "another loss." They are still learning "how to win." I believe that we're a good linebacker away from having a pretty good D. Landen Johnson holds his own at the LB position, but he can't do it all. He's not a player that you build a D around, he's a very good role player though. I can only imagine what it would be if we had Odell and Pollack. All I'm saying is put the pitch forks down until at least week 8. Then if we are a sub par team, I'll start pointing fingers....
Whur CHad At?
Pretenders. Defense has been the achilles heal of this team for 5 years and Marvin has yet to fix it. I think building through the draft has killed us honestly. You gotta go out there and get a playmaker or two in Free Agency. It is not fair to Palmer and the Offense that we should be the best team in the NFL but our D prevents that from happening.

BTW screw putting down pitchforks until week #8. It could very well be too late by then.
jjakq27
From Lance's Blog:"Bengals stat of the day1-5 in their last six regular season games9-13 in their last 22 games"I am beginning to wonder if Marvin has lost this team. I don't like to make excuses by saying that injuries and the suspensions are the reason but some of the dumb things that happen to this team are making me start to doubt. The stat shown above has me very concerned.
