Henry Passes Drug Test?

At this point Henry has given me very little reason to believe him over a lawyer.

Here's the rub. I don't have a very high opinion of lawyers, and don't hold them in very high esteem. In fact, the best description I've ever heard of lawyers is "professional smoke shoveler".

Nor do I give most of their opinions more weight than I would those offered by anyone else. But in this case it's not a matter of how much I trust a lawyer or how much I value their opinions. It's a matter of whether or not it's reasonable for the public to expect an officer of the court to act responsibly when tasked with reporting facts. And in this case the prosecutor has already admitted that he gave two television interviews before being officially informed of the test results. In short, he heard a rumor and then repeated it immediately for anyone whose attention he could attract.

Well said. We know Henry's an idiot. But this guy might have just Nifong'ed himself. Sounding like someone likes the cameras a little too much.

If this guy was your co-worker he probably would have been fired by now and if he was your next-door-neighbor you would want him locked up. But since he is an athlete (on our team), we continue to make excuses for him and "hold out hope"... :puke:

Meanwhile if the DA or the lab or whoever screwed up then I am sure this will become an even bigger story. But this kind of stuff must have some basis in fact somewhere for the guy to stick his neck out and go public with it.

Here is a possible "fact" to consider:the f*****g prosecutor from Redneck County,Kentucky is an idiot looking to grab headlines and further his political aspirations at the expense of Chris Henry (and the Bengals). For this ass to go public with this without a definite positive report in hand is almost unbelievable. What a fool! That is why he "stuck his neck out". The guy should lose HIS job before Chris Henry loses his.

Isn't the guy up for election in .... 2008?

I don't know if I'd take odds if he'll lose his day job before our own Chris Henry.

About that Redneck County comment, don't you have to go further south to hit Redneck country? Like south of Louisville? Its not like it used to be. Used to be my home town, Franklin, Ohio was tightly within Redneck country. Now I think the borders have gone south more.

I lived in several places in Kentucky. The key to finding redneck country nowadays is to get away from the main interstate. If you go perpendicular to 1-75 or 1-65 you start to see a different culture. Or you could just head towards the mountains and tennesee or wv border. That`s an interesting trip!

Whether the reports of this "failed" drug tests are accurate is irrelevant. The story has already hit the national news, and that's all Roger Goodell cares about. His precious league looks bad, despite the possibility that one of its players is getting screwed by circumstance beyond his control. Time to send another message, right Roger? <_<

If that were true Goodell would have thrown him out yesterday.

If in the end the tests come back negative, then as Hair said we can chuckle at a bungling prosecutor who has managed a feat heretofore believed impossible: making Henry a sympathetic figure.

If, OTOH, the tests come back positive, Henry will be suspended for a year under the league's drug policy -- and it had the same policy under Tags.

In this case, it's Goodell's new crackdown that's irrelevant. If Henry has toked his way into a year out of football, he'll have no one to blame but himself.

Can we please get back to what's important, like discussing

whether Mike Brown is Satan or Hitler??????

Yeah. And he's neither, he's just Mike Brown. Worst owner ever.

In any case, can some of you boys stay on topic for one freakin' thread?

VA, KY, whatever....

I'll anxiously wait for the "Final" Chris Henry doping results.

Not true. In certain industries it's one strike and you are out.

Very true. I'm an F.A.A. certified Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic, and under the rules and guidelines I work under, if I fail even ONE drug test, my career is OVER! Now what pisses me off about this system is the amount of "False-Positives" that have been documented, and frequently occur. This in turn ends peoples careers for nothing, yet the goverment lets this practice continue for an alleged "greater good." I for one am against any form of drug testing that isn't 100% accurate, and as of now, it just doesn't exist.

I wonder if the Kenton County Da will announce the final results in the same manner as he did when he thought that they proved that Henry failed his drug test.

Henry should sue the County for demafation of character in hopes to put some heat on this DA, make the county spend money in legal fees cause this dips**t couldn't get his facts right before he went to the press with what he thought was his big break. It's obivous this guy is trying to build his career off of Henry's ignorance and until very recently Henry has made it very easy for him to do just that.

But this latest turn of events might be the break that Henry needs to get the heat off of him alittle bit. To me this proves that the Kenton County DA's office has a special hard on for Henry and can't wait for this guy to spit on the sidewalk so they can arrest him and put him on the front page of the sleepy town's front page paper. They want Henry to fail, they obivously don't want him to be apart of their community, he should sue their asses, I mean it can't get any worse for him in Kentucky.

Yep, you're about as ignorant as they come.

I guess living in VA you're very familiar with Kenton County, right?

Thanks for the insult. That wasnt even my quote. Better check your facts first and learn how to use the edit function first.

As someone mentioned earlier, somehow Henry has become some type of sympathetic figure. This prosecutor might be all of the things that hes been called on this thread but Kenton County did Henry and the Bengals a big favor. Anyone else and he would have had to do his 90 days.

So its a little difficult for me to feel sorry for him because people may have reacted prematurely or to now be happy that he didnt fail his test. He deserved more than he got to begin with. Perhaps they are laying in wait for Henry because they didn't make him complete his full sentence and they took some heat for it.

I know in some military component manufacturing they are subject to the same scrutiny. Cant have the guy making the trigger for that F16 being a stoner.

If the police are targeting Henry unfairly then I'd love to see investigations, firings, and public bloodletting. Because it's one thing to willingly ignore the poor behavior of athletes and celebrities and quite another to target them unfairly because of their high profile status. And lets not forget that the idea that Bengal players being unfairly targeted by the local police isn't a new one, and has been kicked around long before Chris Henry arrived.

Finally, when you start debating the wisdom of framing a guilty man you might want to consider the examples provided by Mark Furman and Dan Rather.

Can't believe some of you guys are still debating whether he failed it or not... Derek, I think your absolutely right about the false positive with the super sensitive test. That's probably the info that the lawyer recieved and then released.

Whattya mean? You're sure he passed it?

If he in fact failed the test than the results would already be 100% public. He took the test and his agent said that he didn't fail the test, what more do you want?

What we should be talking about is the fact that the league is going to give the verdict on Pacman's case any day now. If Pac's suspension gets reduced than Henry's should too!

I'm more worried about the guy pulling the trigger than the one making it! :o

When you say "you" are you referring to me personally or using it in a general sense?

Also I am drawing a blank on examples of Cincy football players being unfairly targeted by police. I must be getting old..... :gramps:

Perhaps you are. It couldn't have been more than a month or two since an article was posted comparing the staggering level of hatred directed at Chris Henry to Cincy's quick embrace of a white baseball player with a long history of serious drug abuse and petty theft. And for the record, that article also included a story of an ex-Bengal player who complained that while playing for the Bengals he had been harrassed for doing little more than DWB. (Driving while black.)

In addition, after Tremain Mack was arrested several years ago several Bengal players spoke out about their concerns that Bengal players in general were being targeted by the police, and black players specifically. Those concerns were later repeated when a film crew showed Mack driving with a suspended license. Granted, that's breaking the law, but once again several Bengal players responded by claiming quite rightly that there would have been no camera crew, or story to report, if Mack wasn't a Bengal.

Finally, there was a quote just last week from a prosecutor defending the arrest of AJ Nicholson where he mentions that not only had the police been called to his residence several times previously, but had apparently been staking out the home in the hopes of catching Nicholson driving on a suspended license. Frankly, there may or may not be anything wrong with that, but I think you've got to wonder if the police don't have better things to do.

Simply put, one thing you don't have to wonder about is if the police would lavish this type of attention on poor shmucks like you and I. Because when we get arrested there's no media attention given to our turn signal violations, no headlines written about the careless way we drive without buckling up, no film footage of us leaving our jobs, no written transcripts published of the things we say to the police, no stakeouts of our homes on the off chance we might go for a drive, and no chance that a prosecutor will willingly leak the RUMORED results of any drug test the court demands we take.

So maybe, just maybe, you should think of the above examples the next time you feel compelled to point out that football players are unfairly held to a lower standard of compliance than someone being paid to build the trigger mechanism of an F-16 fighter jet.

Yeah, I intended that post to be read mostly tongue in cheek. Goodell still sucks though. :P

Just a little heads up.

Marvin Lewis will be interviewed on the ESPN Radio Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday.

What station does that air on?

1450 Carries ESPN. They may have a Podcast of the interview later. The only problem with 1450 is they carry a lot of Hamilton baseball games and cut out some of the ESPN broadcast. Here is a link:
