membengal Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Old washed up dude just got cut. Sure, he's old, and washed up, but should we go for him? Quote
Stripes Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 He'd be a great addition to the squad but we know the Bengals would never sign him.Mike Brown is too cheap. He obviously doesn't care whether the Bengals win or lose. One of the good teams will offer him top dollar and the Bengals will sit on their hands. We should have traded Justin Smith for him before he hit the market. If we cut Thornton now, we'll still have a chance to sign him! jjakq27 Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 No comprendo. Who you talking about? Quote
Stripes Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 No comprendo. Who you talking about?Mem's just being sarcastic. Most of the cut players people want the Bengals to look at fit the "old and washed up" description. Quote
jjakq27 Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Thanks for the translation. I thought maybe you were referring to Croey Dillon or something. My wife tells me that everyday. I hope she doesn't cut me. Quote

But not so much at the Bengals but at the reflexive threads that pop up every time an old and washed up player is cut elsewhere. This team is long since past the time where its fanbase needs to yearn after every Ray Bentley that hits the waiver wire. Quote
jjakq27 Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Personally I am hoping that Michael Westbrook and Tom Barndt make comebacks this summer. Quote
HairOnFire Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 I simply can't answer if the old washed up dude should be signed until Hoosier crunches the cap numbers. Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 I simply can't answer if the old washed up dude should be signed until Hoosier crunches the cap numbers. Hard to say since I don't know if the new CBA carried over the old CBA's cap exemption for old washed up dudes, where they only counted something like half what they ought, if they had a salary and signing bonus under certain figures. I'll check and get back to ya, tho. Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Do you mean a guy like Willie Anderson Mem? Quote
Stripes Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 How dare Willie make four consecutive Pro Bowls? He's an injury proned bum! Quote
jjakq27 Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 I simply can't answer if the old washed up dude should be signed until Hoosier crunches the cap numbers. But isn't there a special exemption for signing has-beens that doesn't count against the washed-up guy cap number? Quote
DC_Bengals_Fan Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Do you mean a guy like Willie Anderson Mem?I'd wait until he's actually washed up to break that one out. Come on. Guy's been here since 1996, give him some love. Quote
Kirkendall Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Do you mean a guy like Willie Anderson Mem?I'd wait until he's actually washed up to break that one out. Come on. Guy's been here since 1996, give him some love....and FOUR FREAKING Pro Bowls!!!!! (wait, someone will downgrade the Pro Bowl further proving Anderson isn't worthy of our praise) Quote
KenA Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 this is my absolute favorite thread of alltime. sometimes it takes humor to slice all the way to the bitter core of a problem ... well done, though i must say i'm a washed-up, old dude myself. speaking of that, maybe we could bring back no. 15, the turk, to be carson's backup ... HairOnFire Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Hey, I define old and washed up. And I don't think the Bengals need to sign me, either... I don't know about that. I've got you penciled in as Tab Perry's WR/KR replacement after he moves to Safety. Quote
TJJackson Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 just askin - if you knew that signing oldwasheduppdude - even at veteran minimum with no signing bonus - was going to cost the team a 3rd round pick in next year's draft, would you sign him? Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Ohhh! Ohhh! Ohhh! Another old washed up dude...this time on the trading block!Bills | Spikes on the trade blockWed, 21 Mar 2007 18:58:48 -0700Mark Gaughan, of the Buffalo News, reports Buffalo Bills LB Takeo Spikes is on the trade block, and all the economic factors point to him being traded. It remains hard to see how they can avoid spending more cash than their cap limit of $112 million with Spikes on the roster. He's scheduled to make $4.6 million in 2007.Get on the phone, Mike!!! membengal Posted March 22, 2007 Author Report Posted March 22, 2007 The direction of this thread is delighting me.Hair, I would be honored to come and sprint 10 yards in 45 seconds to replace our new safety, Tab Perry... Quote
