combatbengal
Thus far, Palmer has the best QB rating in Bengal history, 90.2. Esiason comes in second with 83.1. Palmer has the best % too. He comes in with 64.6%. Kitna has 59.1%. I think the worse QB was Akili Smith. His % was 46.6 with a QB rating of 52.8. Now with few attempts, O'Donell QB rating was 90.2 and his 5 was 61.8% Scott Mitchell played two years and had a rating of 44 and a 46.7 %.Thus far, Palmer is the best QB! In my opinion.Oh yea, for the record, the Bengals will make the playoffs this year!

Perhaps Carson is the superior QB but it'll take more to convince me. If he takes us to a SB and wins, he'll have the crown no matter what, but for now, Esiason is my pick. I can't really back it up with anything other than my own black and orange glasses.

I loved Esiason too... but I never remember him being considered among the best QB's in the game (especially in his 2nd year as a starter). Palmer should have no trouble being considered the best QB to ever put on a Bengals uniform.
Tasher
Ken Anderson is hands down the best Bengal QB. He should already be a Hall of Famer and one day most assuredly will be.Having said that, Carson is most definitely going to be the best ever if he continues to produce the way he has over the past three years, while he also is clearly getting better and better. But the eras are different, the game has changed, even between the end of Ken's career to the beginning of Carson's, let alone to the early 70's of the beginning of Ken's. Hard to compare the two directly against one another.
ShulaSteakhouse
Yes Boomer was considered one of the best QB's in the league during his prime years, unfortunately for him, the Bengals' went into the crapper after 1990 and Paul Brown's death. Boomer took them to a SuperBowl, so did Anderson.Too early to throw Carson in there yet. Both Chad and Carson (and even Rudi) are all making early cases to blow up Bengals' all-time records some day. When that happens I'll give them the nod, gladly. combatbengal
I have to agree on Ken Anderson being at the top of the hunt. Boomer was great too. I also agree that it was a different NFL in those days.
Stripes
Ken Anderson is still numero uno. It'll take a lot from Carson to take that throne.

I'd certainly say part of the reason he may not have got more recognition is that he followed probably the best QB draft ever. Tough to get recognition when the other young QBs are Elway, Kelly, and Marino. Had guys like Montana and Moon around too. Heck even Phil Simms with a SB win playing in the NY market . Other good QBs like OBrien, Kosar, etc.Pretty good time for QBs, really.
bengalboomer7
The realist in me says Ken Anderson, hands down. The kid in me says Boomer(hence my handle) Boomer was my hero as a kid. I had one of those Hutch outfits I wore for halloween about four years running. In fact, i still have the helmet on my TV stand.Ask my father, and between his tears, he'll tell you Greg Cook was better than all of them
Spor_tees
The Best Bengal QB of all time could have been Greg Cook if not an injury. Of coarse if he would have been playing now instead of back then, surgery would have fixed him up good as new...what could have been... Unfortunately he did not have any longevity. Hence, your father's tears I'm assuming...That is a Bengal tragedy that is worthy of some tears. Man he was exciting. Of coarse if he would have been playing now instead of back then, surgery would have fixed him up good as new...what could have been...It was too long ago for most on this board to remember. But I have to agree Greg Cook could have been one of the best ALL TIME NFL QB's. Of course that's also true of Palmer. I'd call it a tie. Also Cook, as a rookie, played on a very weak 2nd year expansion team which he raised to the level of very good by his efforts alone. He was the best long passer I've ever seen.I'm still sick that his career ended prematurely.
BengalPimp
Carson will no doubt end up being not only the Best Bengal QB ever, but one of/if not THE best NFL QB ever. That said, for now, Ken Anderson is the best Bengal QB of all-time. Keep in mind that statistics like QB rating wasnt introduced until the early 80's (the latter part of Anderson's career) but the few seasons he did play with the QB rating system, I recall him being at the top in that category.Ken Anderson was one of the most accurate passers you'll ever find. Boomer was a Bengal Icon, and a great QB, problem was (with all due respect to Eddie Brown/Tim McGee/Rodney Holman) he didnt havea Superstar receiver ala Chad Johnson/Isaac Curtis. If healthy, in the end, no doubt Carson Palmer WILL BE THE BEST, but at least for now, respect and dont diminish the accomplishments of QB's like Anderson and Esiason, that was a different era, the numbers today reflect a different game, back then, you didnt see half the QB's in the league throw for 3,000 yards in a season, or see 4 or 5 have 4,000 yards the same season. Maybe this will help put things in perspective....Hall of Famers Joe Montana(0), John Elway(1), Jim Kelly(0),Troy Aikman(0) have combined for only 1 career 4,000 yard passing season, while a player likeTrent Green has 3-4,000 yard seasons alone. Scottishbengal
BOOMER, BOOMER sorry, he's the guy for me. He was there in my adolesence. The blonde hair, the left hand, the play action. I even sent off to the States for an Esiason replica shirt, cost a fortune took an age to arrive but boy did I wear that with pride. Then in later years it was like a dream come true for me as he returns against the Ravens at Riverside/Cinergy Field - and I was there! What a great start to the game, it was as good as the start was bad against Baltimore this year!!!!!! Yep, Boomer gets my vote for the memories that I have. Though I am also hoping that Palmer gives us all something to warmly remember in later years ...............
agreen_112
Don't get me wrong, I loved Boomer as a kid. But Boomer compared to Palmer is like comparing fire and ice. No one throws a better ball than Palmer IMO (out of Bengals QB's). Palmer is the best QB this organization has ever seen by far. The guy is incrediblely gifted and IMO the perfect QB. He's got the arm, the guts, and the brains.
Tasher
Did anyone catch the LOVE for Greg Cook that the Tuna gave him that was aired in the NBC interview of Romo?Tuna told Romo to go and GOOGLE Greg Cook to keep his head level.Tuna thought that Greg was one of the best ever! For ONE SEASON! Wow.Greg was awesome. Rookie of the Year with a torn up shoulder. If Cook doesn't get hurt, or if that happens with todays modern medicine, Ken Anderson never happens and the Bengals of the mid 70s are a different club.Nice love. redsbengalsbucks
StillKennyBoomerCarsonBoomer came close to passing Kenny, but he left and than came back. Point againstCarson is close to passing Boomer as #2 on my list and will if he gets the Bengals back to the SB.If he wins it all I may have to start thinking he is the best Bengal QB ever, but my childhood memories of Kenny might still win out.Anderson was the best QB of his era and has never been given the credit he deserves.
