AGrizzlyBaer
the cbs annoncers said they saw nothing... and that was coming from rich gannon who is all about protecting the qb
San Antonio Bengal
There's not much to clear up. Ever since the Trent Green hit, the refs are quick with the flag any time a Bengal does as little as breathe on the opposing QB.
membengal
Ref claimed Justin "threw him down to the ground". Is anyone aware of any other way to make a tackle? This so f**king sucks. My God the suck is huge.
Dan2330
My question is did they give him the sack and then tack the yardage back on? All I remember after jumping up and down and screaming like a 5 year old with a toy taken away was that after all that bulls**t they gave them the ball at the 20. That might of been the worst call in history, the only thing I can figure is that the roughing was for tackling him too hard?
CBin2k7
The refs claimed that Justin threw the QB down on his head, that is where the penalty comes from, driving the QB into the ground. What the idiot refs don't understand is that the QB was in a crouching position, Justin being on the QB's back has to get him down some how, that was the only way, and it wasn't even that bad. It was just a horrible call. They protect QB's way too much.

rishipatel
I really don't understand how the refs can make such a bad call when it has the potential to detremine the outcome of the game. But...it's done, and we have to deal with it. Now the important thing is to try to get back some of the starters and plug the leaks. Also, they have to find that offensive power that we are all used to. Still a long season to go.
aaronburr
The QB did land on his head, but he was already angled in that direction and Justin was coming in low. There was no way to tackle the QB without forcing him to go head-first. The guy still had the ball and Justin didn't go high towards his head. It was just a typical, legal sack. It would seem that if the QB puts his head down while holding on to the ball, you need to come to a complete stop, step to the QB's side, and gently push him over and hope that he hits the ground. As for the penalty, it was a personal foul, so I think the 15 yards is walked off from the line of scrimage. Minus 8 became plus 15. Net gain 23 yards.

BengalPimp
HEY NFL, WHY NOT JUST MAKE THE QB'S WEAR RED FREAKIN JERSEY'S LIKE IN PRACTICE AND SAY....HE IS OFF LIMITS......I UNDERSTAND PROTECTING THE QB, BUT C'MON, LAST TIME I CHECKED A QB WAS A FOOTBALL PLAYER, AND IF YOU ARE A P*SSY, YOU SHOULDNT BE A FOOTBALL PLAYER IN THE FIRST PLACE
jjakq27
After the game, Justin sounded dejected and confused because of the ruling. He said he was headed towards the bench thinking that it was forth down. In one of his comments, he said they should just make it a "touch sack". B24
I liked what Marvin had to say...“What can I say?” Lewis said when asked about Smith’s penalty. Then, asked what Smith could have done to avoid the flag, Lewis said: “I don’t know. I guess you have to cuddle him to the ground.”
BigBenBlows
The call was bullsh*t, but it's not why we lost the game. We played FUC*ING HORRIBLE, that's why we lost. Carson had what 2 long balls and the rest was YAC by the recievers. Rudi couldn't get it going til it was too late. Our O line is FUBAR. Hell to make it worse the Squeelers look like SB champs again. aaronburr
For what it's worth....on the local CBS coverage in Los Angeles (who didn't show the game) Eric Dickerson singled out this play to rant about. He's not a Bengals fan and the play wasn't even featured in the highlight packages, but he was livid about the call. Also, for what's it worth, I've been saying that you can't blame a loss on one or two blown calls, but Dickerson started his rant by pointing out that games are often won or lost on one or two plays....he makes a good point, so I'll take my tone down a notch or two. But I still think we sound like wussy Steeler fans when we say the game was fixed.

.coltrane
No matter what happens, you never blame officials for a loss. It might have a bearing on the game, but you take your lumps and move on. If more was done in the first 58 minutes of the game, we would have won. CT Stiller
Far be it from me to bitch about a Bengals loss, but that was a horrible call. Don't worry, the NFL will notice it and send along an apology. It really helps mend those wounds.

bengalsfansince68
I don't believe that the officials beat teams. Missed or bad calls have always been part of the game. Good teams overcome them and our poor play put us in position to get burned by one. That being said, that may be the worst call I have ever seen

The Bengals deserved to lose that game.I don't agree. They played poorly but did enough to win without that poor judgement by an official. They put themselves into a position to get reamed but if that is a sack, odds are they pull out the win despite playing poorly. The Bengals certainly did not deserve to lose any more than the Bucs.
