Kazkal
Bengal Player ArrestedLAST UPDATE: 9/25/2006 5:24:33 AMCincinnati Bengals Linebacker Odell Thurman has been arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence. He was pulled over at a DUI checkpoint on Kellogg Avenue in the East End early Monday Morning. Police say there were other Bengals players in the vehicle. Local 12 will have more on this breaking story on Good Morning Cincinnati. http://www.wkrc.com/breaking/story.aspx?co...A7-7BCFB95A49D7I just hope henry wasent with him =/,hopfully it was pollack Now I get to go asleep on a bad note because I know were gonna get crapped on because of this,we beat the stillers now all week were gonna have listen about character crap.... membengal
Typical. One step forward, 859 steps back in terms of the chatter about this team.I feel bad for Odell, who obviously has demons that I cannot begin to comprehend.I question who the teammates were that got into a car with a drunk guy on a four-game suspension and let him drive.I at least know that, despite all the off-season chatter about how the off-field stuff would affect the on-field stuff, that that is an unfounded concern at this point. Whatever else the Bengals are off the field, they are pretty damn good on it.Perhaps the Bengals should never again draft a Georgia linebacker... walzav29
It's bad and all, but I think Marvin already has written this guy off. There is a LOT more things than we know about. You can just tell by the way Marv talks about him. It's like he's not even on the team.
membengal
Hoosier/Joisey...I have an Odell jersey too. My only Bengals jersey. I assumed it was me jinxing him. Now that I know we both have his jersey, he had no chance. None.By the way, after chewing on this for an hour, I find myself not really giving a s**t. It is too bad for Odell to see him throw his life away, but the off-field stuff just simply isn't affecting the on-field play. And the core of this team is too good and too mature (especially with Carson back and healthy) to let it.
agreen_112
Some of you guys are crazy! Odell's not going to get kicked off the team, he isn't a waste of life or whatever the hell you guys are talking about. He got pulled over for DUI. Yeah he has a suspension pending for failing to meet the NFL substance abuse policy but this is alcohol. I'm glad to know that the Bengals where out celebrating the victory against the Steelers! Who Dey. O-dog will be back after his 4 game suspension, without question. Guys, you really need to stop jumping to conclusions, didn't anyone learn anything from Henry's mistakes. There's no way in hell that Henry was going to be cut (no matter how many fans wanted him gone) and no way Odell will be kicked off the team... Quit hatin', let the NFL worry about it. Nothing will come of this at least until next year, I'd say around March or April. Can't wait to see you back on the field O-dog

agreen_112
i believe this is why they took brooks this yearTo replace Odell? Your crazy man, sthu! He was up for Defensive Rookie of the year dog, doesn't mean anything. Just b/c he hasn't played for 3 games I guess he sucks now. If we cut Odell, do you think he'll go to another team and suck, NOT! HE's a beast and he'll go to another team and blow up even more. membengal
Yelling at people isn't going to change the fact that baer is correct. ML knew the writing was on the wall with Odell, and put another plan in place. Couldn't be clearer.
agreen_112
Ok, so what are you trying to say? I think Marvin is doing what the Ravens did when they won the SB and that is building a defense with depth. The difference between us and the Ravens though is the depth on both sides of the ball. No way in HELL will Brooks replace Odell!!!

If we cut Odell, do you think he'll go to another team and suck, NOT! HE's a beast and he'll go to another team and blow up even more.Yes, he is a beast....if he can get onto the field......but right now I'd say he might well never see the field again. In two weeks, he was going to be eligible to rejoin the team, yet he couldn't even keep himself clean (or at least pay a ~20 dollar cab fare) for that short a time.Marvin has in fact written him off because he cannot trust that Odell will make it onto the field due to ongoing substance abuse problems. That was never more evident than when Marvin did not allow Odell to practice at the start of camp even though he was eligible to do so.He's done here. I don't like it, but there it is.The easy thing to do then is ask.....why hasn't Marvin made the same decision with Chris Henry. Two things, one factual and one speculation1) Fact: league rules are much harsher re: substance related issues than they are for most of Henry's offenses (other than, of course, the DUI in Clermont County). Much more likely that a regular substance abuser will get suspended than someone performing other criminal offenses.2) Speculation: I think Odell's substance issues problems are far more severe than anyone (including Odell) has admitted to, but I think marvin knows how bad the situation is

rwalling
Police say there were other Bengals players in the vehicle. Odell will not get back into Marvin's good graces and therefore the core of this team until he gets his sh!t together. This incident does not change that. He is immature and his life is unravelling. I hope someone is able to get through to him before its too late.HOWEVER, what is up with these other players?!?!? They are not helping Odell get his life under control - they're enabling his problem and making things worse! This is not what teammates do for one another. These guys must be the newest residents of Marvin's doghouse. How can you possibly follow up a tough, gritty, team win with this kind of stupidity?!?! ShulaSteakhouse
Going out and getting jiggy with it on Sunday nights after big wins is nothing new - Justin Smith got a DUI and nothing happened to him.I don't think this would affect Odell's drug suspension though either - the league won't/can't do anything. Totally up to Marvin.Odell did not look good in preseason with the 3rd-4th teamers - not sure how he'll do when he's activated for game days - assume he'll work his way back into the rotation fairly quickly either way though.Maybe this DUI incident will be the final wake up call for him. Can only hope.
TippCityRick
Two things. First, I heard the Two Angry Guys say that the speculation is that Henry was one of the other two in the car. Secondly Odell will now be done for the season (at the minimum) because this will be his 3rd offense. Hope Brooks grows into a NFL linebacker soon.
membengal
Is that speculation on Henry, just because it makes so much sense (it was the logical conclusion), or because there is actually something to it (like him wearing his jersey)?By the way, this story is getting lost nationally, a nice reminder that actual on-field news dwarfs off-field stuff. Part of the difficulty the Bengals had was that the off-season leaves nothing else to talk about. In-season? Results matter. And so far, those results are damn good... bengalboomer7
This is important. it COULD trigger a one year suspension!!i don't know about his future, but I'm willing to bet money you don't see much of odell Thurman in uniform this year. The absolute WORST thing he did was get arrested for DUI. We are talking about something that will probably culminate into a misdermeanor conviction. Perspective: Did he kill someone. Even stone cold sober there's a chance of having an accidentl) Even though he didn't play in it, he was out celebrating the Bengals big win with some teammates. The dumb@ss blew twice the legal blood alcohol limit when he already had two strikes in a program that could cost him millions of dollars for strike three! (Henry doesn't count, he was smart enough not to drive for a change). Show me one other person in Cincinnati with as much on the line when he sat behind the wheel bombed last night. When are Henry and Odell going to grow up and get their average daily allowance of common sense? TippCityRick
Billy, I'm not judging O'dell on his celebration. That's fine for what it's worth. What I'm judging is that the rules are the rules. They are often times unfair or at least appear unfair, but they are what they are. O'dell is already on suspension. He CAN NOT have another failure or he risks a year long suspension. The dumbass can afford a cab. He CHOSE not to get one. Now he will probebly face the stated consequenses.I liken it to the 15 yard penalty the Squeelers took yesterday for a touchdown celebration. Stupid rule; hurts no one; didn't even take up any TV commercial time; but cost them 15 yards none-the-less.

What are you talking about, seriously? CBA states that nothing can happen to the player until convicted of the crime. The court date will not be set in less than 2 weeks (when Odell is scheduled to make his comeback). He'll be back in uniform on the field Sunday October 15 against the Bucs. The charge will be dropped to a misdemeanor and then we'll see what happens (probably not until next year). Alcohol is not an illegal or controlled substance, so it has nothing to do with the NFL"s controlled substance abuse policy! I'm getting sick and tired of all you nay-sayers, p***y boy, conservative people that said the same thing about Henry. Look at Henry now, everyone is on his dick b/c of the game he had yesterday! And once Odell gets back on the field all of you will be on his dick too. Off-field has nothing to do with the game in my book, unless you kill someone or commit a serious felony.Show a little support for the team why don't u...
