KiLBurn
Erik Meyer and Tony Bua were released today.Looks like Reggie McNeal to the Practice squad... If that's the plan, say goodbye to Reggie.
DontPushMe
Why would anyone pick up McNeal? Hes shown nothing. He is a couple years off as a WR, and isnt an NFL QB.

ShulaSteakhouse
Why would anyone pick up McNeal? Hes shown nothing. He is a couple years off as a WR, and isnt an NFL QB.I tend to agree - I believe other teams have to sign anyone they claim to a contract or put him on their roster at this point though? Anyone know if that is correct? (thus why released rookies are hardly ever picked up by other teams in preseason, among other reasons?)he's got some ability as a kicker returner and could potentially be a good WR who can run with the ball, or take a snap, down the road. I'd say there's some sort of danger of him being signed to another team's PS later in the year when those things tend to happen due to the rules I think.I am fuzzy on waiver rights/rules and PS's though in general still - I know during the season, at some point, teams can put someone from another team's PS on their's. Not sure what restrictions there are behind that though, if any.

ArmyBengal
The release of Meyer suprised me, but after seeing little to no action from him, maybe it shouldn't...WHODEY !!!
Kazkal
Once they hit the PS they should be ontouchable teams had their chance to grab em when their put there. The release of Meyer suprised me, but after seeing little to no action from him, maybe it shouldn't...WHODEY !!!wish we still had that one guy instead of a 7th rounder
rwalling
Erik Meyer and Tony Bua were released today.Looks like Reggie McNeal to the Practice squad... If that's the plan, say goodbye to Reggie. It strikes me that Marvin has decided that he doesn't like inexperienced QBs, even on the practice squad. The Anthony Wrights and Dougie Johnsons of the world have a better chance of piccking up the offense and avoiding the dumb turnovers, even if their upside is limited.I just read the last game's play online, but it didn't sound like Bua played well at all. Might be that some of the other options (e.g Busing, Herana-Daze) show more on teams and long term upside.
TJJackson
It also increases Kilmer's odds of making the team - as a S
aaronburr
Pretty sure that if you're going to poach a player from some other team's practice squad, you have to put him on your active roster. That's what happened when Broussard went to the Panthers. If you're just going to put a player on your own practice squad, then they're be nothing to keep the original team from taking him back. You would just have a constant rotation of players, moving from one practice squad to another.Incidentally, the .com depth chart has Bua ahead of Busing at SS. derekshank
This caught me off guard. I figured he would just be put on the practice squad. Given the way Johnson has played the last 2 preseason games, I knew Meyer had very little chance of making the team... but I still felt that he had a lot of potential to be the eventual #2. I guess I was wrong. Oh well.
Stripes
I'm surprised to see Meyer jetisoned. His training camp performances must have been more telling than his 3 minutes of gametime.I doubt McNeal will make the team... He is just too far behind all the great receivers already ahead of him. Pure talent will keep him in the league whether he ends up on the practice squad or not, but he has no place here.
HairOnFire
I'm surprised to see Meyer jetisoned. His training camp performances must have been more telling than his 3 minutes of gametime. Agreed. The fact that they didn't keep him around as long as possible is telling.
HoosierCat
Once they hit the PS they should be ontouchable teams had their chance to grab em when their put there.Unfortunately not. Any team can sign a guy off any other (or their own) teams' PS at any time. But yes, to answer an earlier question, if he's picked up off waivers or signed from the PS, McNeal has to go on the signing team's active roster. If that team wanted to PS him, they would then have to put him back on waivers.
