The_Next_Big_Thing
The real ? , is how devastating would A Waterboy,Smith,Geathers,Arington pass rush be!I think that it would be a great if we could get them all on the field as LB/DEs. Going to a 3-4 would basically turn Geathers and Justin into defensive tackles, and they aren't ready for that yet, I don't think. However, those 4 in a 4-3 would be great. In a 3-4, Geathers is an outside linebacker, and Smith is a defensive end.Wha? Geathers a 3-4 OLB!!A 280 lb lineman who last year rotated to DT on passing situations!I think I will wildly disagree with thatHe'll be forced to lose weight again. He's a big DE as it is, so wouldn't he fit better at 3-4 DE. And wouldn't Pollack be the better OLB?
ShulaSteakhouse
Wow, didn't realize Adams is signing for 3 years. I guess they feel he's in good shape? Interesting.Yes Geathers needs to stay on the line, he's got the body of a true DE in a 4-3 and can play DT in a 3-4 alignment as well. I think it will be easier for him to put on 10 pounds of muscle than make him less effective at a lighter weight. His straight ahead speed is eye popping for a guy his size, he should become a solid pass rusher at some point. He's also got some nice pass rush moves to work with, and some off-the-ball quickness to beat interior lineman, much like Pollack does for a guy his size. BengalszoneBilly
Guess again blunt-boy... I've always wanted the big heavy in the middle. I don't think there has been anyone, except Billy who has been more vocal on this board about getting a big dude for the middle.WHODEY !!!Well hold on Mark. I wasn't so much for the size of the defensive lineman, as I was for the ability of the defensive lineman. One term is certainly not always inclusive of the other. IMHO Sam Adams fills both the catagories of size and ability. In fact, I'd like to state that am now happy with the Bengals personnel on the defensive line! Whoa. I just realized that's the 1st time those words have ever crossed my lips here!
HoosierCat
Wow, didn't realize Adams is signing for 3 years. I guess they feel he's in good shape? Interesting.More likely it just helps keep the cap hit down. If the reports so far are accurate that year one comp is about $3 million (with incentives that could push it to $4 million) that means the signing bonus can't be much more than $2 million. Meaning that across three years the prorated cap hit is around $700k or $800k a year -- i.e. virtually inconsequential.(In fact, this deal appears so damn cheap, at least from what I can tell so far, that I am surprised no one has trumped it. That no team appears interested in doing so does little to sooth my many doubts about Sam's remaining abilities. We shall see.)

I don't think there has been anyone except Billy who has been more vocal on this board about being able to stop the run and getting Adams will provide the upgrade we have been looking for. That should fit a little better right ?? However, I'm still not prepared to say I'm happy with our defensive line, but I will say I'm not quite as upset as I was a week ago.WHODEY !!! We shall see.)I kinda consider it a one year tryout deal, benefiting mostly the Bengals. I just wonder if the incentives are the "unlikely to be reached kind" Either way, tehy get him for a year, can cut him if they choose with minimal cap hit, or get him for two more years at relatively low cap #. Great short term move by the Bengals in a year where DT is kinda deep in the draft. Damn, looks better and better in my eyes the more I type. Spain
Adams and Arrington are coming cheap! How do I know? Well ask your self if your a FA and you can go back to a team that you like the coach that is poised for a superbowl you going to sign! I have told you guys the pà rdigm has shifted. Now FAs take less to play for us and use teams like the dolphins to jackup the price! Catch up!
ArmyBengal
Jesus Christ Spain, can't you leave this argument in the other thread where you already stated Adams and Arrington are coming to the Bengals ???WHODEY !!!
Spain
more news Army, I hate to tell you but Arrington turned down a deal with the sea hags. Peterson took it , now there is no money out there, Marvin did what the Pats do let FAs come to you! If your Arrington who you going to choose? The Bengals are hard balling him like they did Adams. Katie is a profesional they had their target guys and it looks like they are going to get them! One hell of a job Katie!
NJ29
Each hour that passes without the deal going official scares me even more.
ArmyBengal
Well, Spain, I know about Peterson already... To say someone wants to play for the Bengals more than the Seahawks is about a draw. I mean they did go to the Super Bowl last year. I think that's pretty good isn't it ?? I still don't know where all the hostility is coming from here. Most agree Arrington would be an upgrade and would love to have him at a reasonable price. You on the other hand are still saying he's going to be here and this is a done deal. I will be more than happy to go further with this conversation when you are able to provide a link to your "for sure" information about what the Bengals "have done"... How many times has someone asked you for a link ???WHODEY !!!
jjakq27
True story....yesterday I was at my daughter's track meet and LB coach Rickey Hundley was there with his daughter. They were in the same event and we were standing next to each other. I asked him if big Sam had signed yet and he said no, that he was supposed to sign today (Sunday) pending the outcome of the physical and that he was scheduled to begin working out with the team on Monday. He didn't have much more to say other than he thinks he is "just another piece of the puzzle." Hopefully the physical went OK.

I guess he's not allowed to know Arrington has been signed either... Good story otherwise...WHODEY !!!

Whur CHad At?
UPDATE From CINCINNATI ENQUIRER:Sam Adams couldn't make it to sign his contract with the Bengals Sunday. Instead, he was found stuck in his bathtub in his hotel , by his agent Angelo Wright. Wright procedded to call police and they are still working on him. Police officals have said Adams should be out by midnight, or "whenever his fatass can pop out of there". His agent, called a local Bath tub company to have a new, bigger one made. This one is said to fit 20 people and 6 King Kongs. We will keep you posted...
