KimoTherapy Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 They better start setting up extra buffet tables in the lunchroom cuz it seems that you got Adams. http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5171 I personally saw more upside with Grady but whatever.Anyway, on another note, you'd be crazy to take Joey. The guy is too slow on his reads and rarely makes it past the second checkdown before he panics.Peace Quote
Stripes Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 A NFL source said Thursday that a three-year deal for one of the league’s elite run stoppers is imminent as the Bengals closed in on arguably their biggest free-agent signing ever. Oh man, that's just funny. I'm surprised it has gotten this far, so good deal. If we really do land him as it looks like we will, then perhaps everyone worried that Marvin would never do anything to help the run defense can rest easy.Weren't we going after a quarterback before Adams? Not that I care either way. Quote

As for QB, I think maybe we might be holding out to see the deal with McNair...But that is my Humble Opionon Quote
Ox Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Looks like ya better change that sig, Whur. Oh and Kimo, thanks for your concern and research on our beloved Bengals, but your name is f*cking horrible and I would like to punch you in the face because of it.Other than that you seem pretty cool. cincy9275 Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 espn is reporting he is going to sign all they say is it is a 3 year deal that could be worth up to 4mill if he reaches his incentives . i am not over joyed but this is a big help for our d/ends and l/b's he and shaun smith could be a pretty good tandem maybe not elite but pretty good they have signed some quality guys so far not bad now this makes the draft very interesting . cincy90 Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 This is a really good signing. Now we can draft any play-maker that we want. One question: I thought that thornton said that he wouldn't be returning this year. Quote
denverbengal Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 So I guess we can expect him to be a Raider by tomorrow Quote

ArmyBengal Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 This can't be viewed as anything but a good signing considering our d-line. If that price is correct, 3 years and up to 4 mil "IF" he meets incentives, sounds like music to my ears !!! Adams may not be the dominant DT of years past, but he is more than solid and knows how to keep o-linemen occupied. I see a big year for Odell, Pollack, and the rest of the LB's. Lets get another DT in the draft and we will be good. God, if Bunkley falls, I'll just sh*t myself !!! Oh yeah, I agree with Ox about your name Kimo... Thanks Marvin !!!WHODEY !!! Quote

membengal Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 No complaints at all if this really is true. None. Adams is still a difference maker and this line sorely needed one like him, all of ML's protestations to the contrary over the last few years. Quote
turningpoint Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Anyway, on another note, you'd be crazy to take Joey. The guy is too slow on his reads and rarely makes it past the second checkdown before he panics.PeaceLMAO!that's because his o line sucked ass in DET... Joey would be 3x the qb Big ben is in Pit if he just had to hand off the ball to his rb's and pass 13x a game to vet Wr's.I'm actually amazed he went 60td to only 62 ints, being stuck in that s**t hole franchise. However, I'll most likely wait until after the draft so that I have some additional fodder to come up with something interesting (and condescending for ya'll) Peace Quote

2ndyearBengal Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Fortifying a position that represented one of their biggest needs, the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night reached a contract agreement in principle with unrestricted free-agent defensive tackle Sam Adams, who played the past three seasons with the Buffalo Bills.Financial details of the contract were not yet available, but sources said Adams can make about $4 million in 2006 if he reaches certain playing time and performance levels. The deal will likely not be signed until the weekend. There are still some details to be completed and it is believed the Bengals want Adams to take a physical exam before the deal is officially executed.A three-time Pro Bowl performer and the kind of "anchor" tackle who occupies blockers and allows the linebackers to flow to the football, Adams should represent a major addition for a Cincinnati defense that statistically ranked No. 20 against the rush in 2005. The Bengals have been looking for a wide-body tackle in free agency the last several years but were never able to sign one.Under coach Marvin Lewis, the Bengals have surprisingly struggled against the run, finishing 25th in 2003 and 26th in 2004 against the ground game. The presence of Adams, long regarded as one of the NFL's premier inside defenders, should certainly help address that shortcoming. Adams was the No. 24 player overall in the ESPN.com free-agent rankings.Adams, 32, will probably team with John Thornton in the starting lineup. That would leave veteran Bryan Robinson and promising youngster Shaun Smith in reserve and give the Bengals one of the deepest and best tackle rotations in the league.A key for the Bengals will be to maximize Adams' effectiveness by limiting the number of snaps he plays. That should not be a problem, given that Lewis was the defensive coordinator in Baltimore when Adams helped the Ravens win Super Bowl XXXV in 2000.The Bengals will be Adams' fifth team, as he previously played with Seattle (1994-99), Baltimore (2000-01), Oakland (2002) and Buffalo (2003-05). The former Texas A&M star has 375 tackles, 42 sacks, six forced fumbles, five recoveries, three interceptions and 32 pass deflections in 179 games. His abilities against the run aside, Adams has demonstrated the ability to compress the pocket from the inside during his career. As recently as 2004, he registered five sacks, but the Bengals will rely on him primarily to clog the middle.Len Pasquarelli is a senior NFL writer for ESPN.com.always wanted to scoop you guys... If that price is correct, 3 years and up to 4 mil "IF" he meets incentives, sounds like music to my ears !!!Bring on LaVar. For the little money ponied up for Sam (If correct) I'm actually more in favor of going after Arrington than earlier !!! That would be a huge move. Not that this is the reason by any stretch, but it would definitely end the ideas of us not getting FA's to come to the 'Nati !!!WHODEY !!! Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Already have threads of this...BRING IN LAVAR NOW!!!!Could Big Sam be the anchor to our new 3-4 defense???? Quote

Sorry, the ESPN article makes it clear that the Bengals gave Fat Sam far more money than the snippet quoted above implies. It's 3 million in 2006 with the chance to bank an extra million if incentives are met. That's way too much in my opinion...though it's sure to make others happy. Quote
Kazkal Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Can we say pope? or a CB or DE mybe wouldn't mind gabe still though that would be alot of beefespn is reporting he is going to sign all they say is it is a 3 year deal that could be worth up to 4mill if he reaches his incentives . i am not over joyed but this is a big help for our d/ends and l/b's he and shaun smith could be a pretty good tandem maybe not elite but pretty good they have signed some quality guys so far not bad now this makes the draft very interesting .4million seems preatty damn cheap for 3years compared brob and JT's contracts that both 2mill+ Quote

Whur CHad At? Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 $ 3 mill a year which could end up being $4 mill based on performance^^Those Numbers could be different thoughWe just need to wait and make sure he passes a physical Quote
Spor_tees Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 I just got home from work and read this...then jizzed all in my shorts ...so then I got up and changed shorts, sat back down to finish reading and jizzed my shorts again! If we can sign Arrington now, Martin, and draft Bunkley, we will be SUPERBOWL BOUND BABY! Quote
Stripes Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 If we can sign Arrington now, Martin, and draft Bunkley, we will be SUPERBOWL BOUND BABY! Now that the Bengals have dipped this far into free agency, I won't rule Arrington out. Still, I wouldn't count on Bunkley. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Wow, hope that comes out of your shorts!I like your idea, but I think this move means we will prob. be done in FA, except for a QB...but you never know. I also believe we will draft Pope Now, and maybe DT 2nd or 3rd Quote
