This would be how things would play out if the Bengals had a Real GM. Imaginary GM: Hey Mike, we can get Rashan Gary for a 4th RD pick. Mike Brown: But then we'd have to pay him, right? Imaginary GM: Hey Mike, we can get Minkah Fitzpatrick for a 7th Rd Pick. Mike Brown: But then we'd have to pay him, right?

Right, and Bengals will sit on their ass and ignore the Oline because "it was Burrows best line so far". That doesnt mean it was great, and 3 starters Brown, Risner and Karras are only signed through this year. They have no decent backups at Tackle so if Brown or Mims get hurt, Burrow is screwed. Yeah Bengals, go ahead and draft all defense, and ignore the Oline, because you made bad defensive picks recently, need to re-draft same positions, and let a double digit sack guy get away for nothing (Raiders got 2 Firsts for Crosby).

Yup, some teams (Ravens) will trade for a great pass rusher like Crosby, and some teams will dick around a great pass rusher and not guarantee more than a year at a time, letting who is widely considered the #1 Free Agent available, get away, and then lie and say that Pass Rush is the biggest priority. Sell the f'n team so the new owner can GET REAL Football people in charge.

I don't have faith in the Bengals signing anybody of quality, and they definitely wont improve long term. They will throw out 1 year deals, or they will try to sign these guys to a 3 year deal with only the 1st year guaranteed. You cant keep doing business that way. Nobody is going to want to come. Players will go to whoever GUARANTEES the most money. Not to be cut next year with no pay when they are a year older.

I agree, but i feel they would also try to low ball them again next year, which means not signing early, leading to more risk of not getting anything done. They know the cap will go up another $20m next offseason, throw a 2nd year non-guranteed "up to $5m" at Risner. I also wouldn't be opposed to extending Brown for a year or two at something reasonable because like you said, they could do a lot worse.

F*cking IDIOTS !!! Now we get to look forward to next offseason where we have 3 Open spots on the Oline because Brown, Karras and Risner will all be free agents. They dont have enough draft picks, and will probably load up on Defense this year. You cant build an Oline with 3 Rookies next year. Forget free agency, because next year some of the higher cap figures kick in on Burrow, Chase and Higgins contracts. Couldnt at least do their typical 2 year deal with only the first year guaranteed? I mean...Do they just hate Joe Burrow that much!!!
-
Exactly. I'm willing to bet that the holdup is, these cheap fucks dont want to guarantee anything other than the 1st year. A 31 yr old Guard is looking for security, and not to move towns again next year. A 3yr $12-15m deal with at least the first 2 years guaranteed (only $8-10m) should get it done. The top Guards are making $20-$20m PER SEASON, and you can get quality play for half that pay over 3 years? WTF?

That's because KC owner Clark Hunt isn't a moron who just puts his child, his childs spouse, and other family in charge. He actually hires real GM's, VP's, Executive VP's, VP of Football Administration, etc. People who know how to run a franchise and work a salary cap. Clark Hunt lets his daughter Gracie do marketing because she's an absolute smokeshow, but again, he's smart enough to know what role is best for everyone.

I'm one of the few who still want Trey around and hope somehow that happens. Mainly because i have Zero faith in the front office to draft or bring in a free agent who will put anywhere near the pressure Trey would on opposing QB's. Throw out a 3yr $75m and guarantee the first 2 years. I'd rather pay Trey $25m than a 5 sack guy like Ossai $15m, or worse, have El Cheapo's hold onto the money and call it "Profit" The Salary Cap is going up $20m+ every year now because of the media contract. Come the f*ck on.
