In a related story, I was heard to exclaim "my dead gramma is a better blocker than Chad at times"
That makes perfect sense to me, as I've always assumed your dead grandmother was a lineman.
Our cable went out the day before Christmas. Time Warner sent over TJ's dead gramma, she climbed the pole out by the road and fixed our cable.

Damn, Marvin flat-out doesn't give a f**k. After this crap season, to still be holding the line on various changes have to be made or I'm out of here, takes sizeable gonads.
Guys will generally sell their souls to be a head coach in the NFL. Mike Brown should listen when a guy steps up and says I'll sacrifice it because your organization is too messed up for me to bother with anymore.
Mike Brown, wake up.

As for the draft, they should waste no time and grab AJ Green if they can. From what I've seen, he could replace Chad. They are so similar.
I like AJ Green, but I REALLY want to see his 40 time at the Combine. It's diffcult to find legit 40-times for players in college, but I do know that he ran a 4.5 coming out of High School. He has a long stride, so it may take him some time to get open downfield.
I also like Julio Jones, and if the Bengals do get a Top 5 pick, a competent GM (which we don't have) should be able to trade down and get additional picks. They can trade down to around 10-12 and still pick up Julio Jones, as well as maybe an additional 2nd or future 1st. Jones is a little faster than Green, but both have long strides. The plus on Jones is that he is a very tough player, runs hard and is tough to bring down....Also the dude has crazy leaping ability....See Below
Both Green and Jones are huge targets at 6'4" with Jones about 10 lbs heavier....I'd be happy with either!
Please hide the above photos from Mike Brown. If he sees them, we'll probably draft this guy with the first pick, and pick up a few o-linemen off the street. That is some serious Mike Brown eye candy there. He won't even care that two of those pictures are of Jones in high school when he played for Foley High. That sort of athletic ability does something unnatural to anyone named Brown.

I realize the fashion of the day is to pile on Marvin.
But having to cast Mike in the role of personnel genius, who's acumen and insight is ignored by a pig-headed Marvin Lewis so he can start his "favorites", is making my brain hurt.
Here's another way of looking at it. Mike fell in love with a workout savant, reached for him in the draft, then told Marvin to develop him. And though it took a long time due to the player's background in little league football, Marvin was a huge success at said development, as evidenced by the player's very successful debut as a starter last week.
Having said all that, one effing interception in 2008 due to a blown route and Simpson gets pined? WTF. Chad no doubt has a Bengal and maybe an NFL record for turning the wrong way to let a defender get a pick.
The more I think about it, the more I want to defend Marvin on this.
Marvin: "Chad wants traded, let's get rid of him and get a 1st round pick."
Mike: "He's an all pro, we're keeping him, and you better play him."
Marvin: "Chris Henry is a head case, don't bring him back."
Mike: "He's back and he's a great talent. Play him."
Marvin: "For God's sake, not Terrel Owens. What did I ever do to you to deserve this. Am I in a Kafka novel?"
Mike: "Yep, Terrel Owens. Carson likes him, and what Carson wants, Carson gets. You better play him."
Marvin: "Everyone's hurt. Simpson, get your ass in there."
Mike: "Jesus Christ Marvin, why didn't you make room for this magnificent talent sooner?"

You gotta pick up AJ Green if you're the Bengals. We need to invest more into Carson.
"Et tu, AGreen?" - Chad

screw cedric benson.
I think it was late 3rd, maybe early 4th quarter, Ced on two runs gets the ball, has to plant both feet to stop as there is no hole, he bounces like a madman to the side, and accelerates for a gain. And that's from a guy who runs with power. How many times is that first contact behind the line and he still gets a gain out of it?
I agree the fumbling is not acceptable, but I dont know how you can say screw Ced Benson. He is a team player, gives full effort on every play, and just plays hardnosed football no matter what. That kind of thing is needed in Cincinnati. I hope they sign him.
-
Ced blamed it all on Chad and T.O., now he's looking like a prophet. Those dysfunctional personalities messed this team up, and I take today's win over the Chargers as more evidence in support of that.

We're doomed. From Lance's blog.
A Mike Brown letterA Bengals season ticket holder recently wrote Mike Brown to express his displeasure with the direction of the franchise. The following are excerpts from the letter Brown sent to the season ticket holder this week. Enjoy.
"We are not a team devoid of talent, as numerous analyst have noted, and we are committed to challenging strongly in 2011"
"A general manager brought in from the outside is not in the plans."
"We realize a quick return to contention will not happen just by wishing it so, and I pledge to you that we are taking a hard look at everything we do"
"Only 13 teams have two division titles in the last five years. While this does not satisfy us, I believe it shows we are not so far away from reaching some higher goals"
"Regarding the coaching staff, I can only say that they are included in an organization-wide review that has already begun. I am choosing not to speak of specific plans to the media until we have something concrete to announce"
"We are overdue for postseason success, but I believe we are on the way back and won't apologize for the whole of our play in recent years"
no gm...not devoid of talent...good hard look...not so far away...stay the course...oxcart/ditch...
I don't know that I'd expect any owner or gm to do more than this in an email to a season ticket holder. He's not going to announce anything, and he's not likely to take a huge amount of blame.
At least he said everything they do is under review. That's a lot more than se like where we're at, we just have to work harder, etc. In fact I'd say it's not oxcart/ditch talk. It's more like we're thinking about if we have the right oxcart.

Said Ochocinco on Twitter: "Did anyone get the license plate to the bus I was just threw under?"
It was just your old nemesis, reality.
-
Yes, Benson is a yes for me. I like his running style and his rather blue collar personality. He needs to be reasonable, though.
-
he's finally lost the support of almost all of his enablers.
Has Denzel stopped answering Chad's post-meltdown phone calls?
-
hmmm found this abit interesting.

Finally, it wouldn’t hurt to communicate with your players and ask them how their families are doing. The lack of general interest in your players has been a common source of conversation in the locker room for years. Clearly, the players are seeking some element of relationship between themselves and their employer. This mere measure of humanity will go a long way in ushering in a renaissance of Bengal pride and tradition.
This is just one more negative to being a do-all owner. I think Mike takes the back and forth in contract negotiations personally. The Hard Knocks episode when he "welcomed" Andre Smith to the team after he signed was pretty revealing. Mike appeared to still be pissed off. Maybe Pumpkin and Troy can improve on this when they take the reigns. As much as I agree with Solomon Willcots, I have a hard time seeing Mike Brown loosening up and acting like he cares.
-
A really good significant change would be if Chad fell of a really high bridge somewhere.
-
First game against the Browns the Bengals rushed 17 times.
Second game against the Browns the Bengals rushed 45 times.
In the name of all that is holy, fire Bob Bratkowski. That f**king idiot took a power running team and tried to turn it into the greatest show on turf. Only when his new toys broke did he go back to smashmouth football. That 17 rushes vs 45 rushes makes me absolutely sick.

"I'm too real to be on a reality show." - Ced
Best quote by a Bengal this year.
-
Its funny how Ced blames Chad and Ocho for asking for the ball when he is doing the exact same thing.
I don't think they are the same thing. One has to look at what is unsaid in both requests for the ball.
In Chad and T.O., it's "throw me the ball, so I can get on sportscenter, get more viewers for my reality show, feed my insatiable ego, and just generally glorify the fabulousness that is me. We'll lose the game but who cares?"
In Ced's case, it's, "hand me the ball so we can grind their defense down, keep their offense off the field, and win the game."
Does anyone honestly doubt the above interpretation of the motives of those 3 players? Ced's the farthest thing from an attention whore. He just wants to win, get another contract, and go through life ugly.
Why were the Cleveland defenders laying on the turf at PBS Sunday, bruised, trampled, and humiliated? It wasn't because Chad caught a TD, posed for 30 seconds, pulled a prop out of the goal post, proposed to a cheerleader, etc.
As soon as our two prima donnas got sent to the locker room to admire each other or twitter or whatever, things suddenly got very real on the floor at Paul Brown Stadium.
-
But to blame for what, being themselves?
Yes.
As to Brat, how in the world could he possibly keep his job? Is there anyone in all of Bengaldom who thinks he's done an adequate job? No one I've talked to. If he's back, it will be an outrage.
-

You noticed that too, eh?
Im very curious when Chad is gone who is gonna be the fall guy.Probably Palmer.
Mike Brown will always be there.
Just because I'm blaming our crappy season on Chad, T.O., and Brat, doesn't mean they aren't actually to blame.

What we have here is an old-fashioned Rivermonsters vs. Commandos internet showdown. May the best arena football team no one's ever heard of win.
Thats sad for you COB. Its a great game filled with more exciting play than any Bengals game.
Instead of being 40 feet from the action. You can sit basically on the sidelines. My seats are up against the bench of the visiting team. I can literally touch the players if I wanted to. (Not that I would ever want to)
Columbus used to have an Arena team called the Destroyers. Unfortunately I never made it over to a game, then the league folded. Their games had a reputation for being exciting.
One funny thing about the Destroyers: Early in their history they hired Earle Bruce as head coach. Earle sort of thought Woody's 'run it between the tackles' philosophy was too wide-open. Earle was more of a 'run it between the guards' kind of guy. So I was surprised when he was hired for an Arena team, which we all know requires a timing passing game. I just looked it up on Wiki and Earle went 6-10, so maybe he didn't adapt all that well. Another odd fact, Joey Galloway owned part of the Columbus Destroyers.

Even with his game Sunday, Benson is only averaging 3.6 yards per carry.......Maybe they would have run a lot more had you not been averaging 3.49 yards per carry the first 13 games....AND THESE 3 FACTS.
***FACT: Cedric's 3.6 average is THE WORST IN THE NFL AMONG THE TOP 36 RUSHERS!!!!! You have to go all the way down to #37 (Rookie Jahvid Best) to find a RB with fewer Yards Per Carry
***FACT: Among the NFL's Top 23 Rushers, Cedric Benson (2) has the FEWEST runs of 20+ yards. His season Long of 26 yards is also the Worst among the Top 23.
***FACT: Ced is 2nd in the NFL in FUMBLES, behind Peyton Hillis
I honestly don't see how he can complain. He is 7th in the NFL in Carries.....Dude, you are 7th in Attempts, it's not like you aren't getting your touches, IT'S THAT YOU AREN'T DOING SH*T WITH THEM....WTF is he b*tching about? Really?
I don't get it? i really don't? Who thinks these are greats stats?
Here's hoping we can draft a RB as well.
*One more interesting little bit of information.....If you take the NFL's Top 50 Rushers in terms of yardage, Cedric's 3.6 avg ranks 45th among the Top 50.
I don't care about this s**t. When we run the ball, we win. When we try to throw all the time, we lose.
We've all got eyes, and at least to my eyes Ced is a good running back who gets yards after the first contact, runs hard, blocks, etc.
-
The fact that this administraion is not doing stuff like playing these guys when you're 2-11 is more evidence of how clueless they are
How true. Bratkowski probably feels like he's coaching for his job, so he stays with his starters instead of trying to evaluate talent. Marvin should step in and force this, force the unproven guys into the lineup to give them a chance to show what they can do.
-
Thank goodness
Finally, it was said, what needed to be said
Yep, Ced has hinted at it before. Now that he's come right out and said it, I hope Mike Brown was listening.

Rob Oller, Columbus Dispatch columnist and reporter, noticed that our team underwent "sissification" (his word), and went searching for the cause.
/>http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/sports/stories/2010/12/20/bengals-win-features-more-substance-than-drama.html?sid=101CINCINNATI - In boob tube programming parlance, this was Gunsmoke football, the kind of no-nonsense retro show that led the Cincinnati Bengals to the playoffs last season. Missing was the ridiculous reality TV drama that has come to define the marketing franchise of Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco.
Those two, who at times seem more interested in their The T.Ocho Show than in their day jobs, were nonfactors yesterday as Cincinnati ran the down Cleveland's throat in a 19-17 win that snapped a 10-game losing streak.
Owens suffered a knee injury before halftime and did not return. Ochocinco tweaked his tender ankle and was limited to two catches. In their absence, the Bengals (3-11) gave the ball to Cedric Benson a season-high 31 times, and he rewarded them by rushing for 150 yards and a touchdown. Cincinnati's 45 rushing attempts trumped the season high by eight and were nearly 16 more than average.
The Browns (5-9), meanwhile, struggled on both sides of the ball, but particularly against the run. They played with the urgency of a postcard snowfall. Losing to the Bengals is no way to quiet speculation that coach Eric Mangini will lose his job if Cleveland does not close the season with a win or two, which now seems unlikely with Baltimore and Pittsburgh still up.
The Browns rushed for just 59 yards, all by Peyton Hillis, and while they were a recovered onside kick away from possibly pulling out the 75th meeting between the two teams, in the end it goes down as the second straight loss to a bad team, following last week's 13-6 sleepwalk against Buffalo.
Making matters worse for Mangini was how Cleveland lost this one. The Bengals beat the Browns at their own game by pounding the ball and stopping the run.
That's the basic summation, so basic that Benson finds it hard to believe the Bengals have missed the message. Cincinnati averaged 32 attempts and 127 yards rushing in building a 9-4 record at this point last season. Those numbers have dipped to 24.5 and 84.3, respectively, in part because the offense has more receiving weapons, including rookies Jordan Shipley and Jermaine Gresham. But quarterback Carson Palmer has struggled at times to find those weapons, who also have struggled to run the right routes.
All the while, Benson has done a slow burn.
"There is no doubt I was disappointed," he said of a season well past the brink. "Did we not do it right (last season) and find a formula that would work?"
Benson knows full well the answer to that. He is frustrated. He wants the ball more often than the Bengals have given it to him.
"But if people are unaware of the obvious, I have no control over that," he said.
The obvious - Cincinnati is 41-23 under coach Marvin Lewis when rushing for at least 100 yards - has been obscured this season because of the sideshow that is T.O. and Ochocinco. The receivers do produce. Owens came in ranked fourth in the AFC with 72 catches, Ochocinco was sixth with 65. But they also produce silliness, mixed with selfishness, which is the antithesis of trench football.
Don't think the majority of players don't know it. A football team is like a family, and in many instances the more serious family members grow tired of the siblings who constantly seek attention.
Yesterday, the show-offs were the equivalent of sick in bed, leaving adults to run the show.
"This was last-year football," offensive tackle Anthony Collins said. "This was grown-man football."
Benson tackled the sensitive subject of the sissification of Cincinnati's offense with a wink-wink of a smile.
"Chad and T.O. weren't in today, so we were able to just play football," he said. "There was no 'gotta get him the ball.'"
And by "him," Benson was not referring to himself.
"I'm too real to be on a reality show," he said.
Zing.

Outstanding Hair, that is good stuff there.
Of course Chad will go to the Super Bowl to attention whore himself into an even deeper state of self-delusion than that in which he normally abides.
What could anyone possibly find interesting about Chad? I seriously don't get it.
