So, has anyone seen anything good lately?

I saw the "Space Between Us" last week. Seriously I couldn't recommend this flick for a rental. The premise sounded cool, but the film didn't deliver. I haven't been this disappointed in a film since "Saint Elmo's Fire."

OT but RIP Bill Paxton. Game over, man, game over.

One of my favorite movie quotes.  Also the way he delivered it, the whiny, plaintive quality.  Brilliant.

I went to see A Dog's Purpose, because my son read the book.  Not great.  My wife cried almost the whole movie, probably ignoring the movie and thinking about our marriage, but the movie didn't help.  Good book though.

Then went to see "The Great Wall," it had some pretty good special effects, but the director absolutely failed to create any chemistry whatsoever amongst the characters.  You watch it and you couldn't care less who gets killed or gets their arms ripped off.  It's kind of like running an NFL team.  I can recommend it solely for the effects and the computer generated shenanigans.

On TV - If you have HBO check out a documentary called "Risky Drinking."  It is just a bleak look at four alcoholics and the lives they have to lead due to their addictions.

Also on HBO - Mad Max - Fury Road.  Yes, it is ok.  Dead Pool - very much yes check it out.

Scraped together a few bucks Sunday to hit the matinee showing of Logan. Really good movie (though not the transcendental experience some are painting it as). It knows how to do a "grimdark" superhero movie right: keep the stakes small and personal, and the focus on character. It's been compared in style to a Western (and the film makes that connection explicit at one point) so if you like that genre, you'll like Logan.

Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart basically created the now-iconic screen versions of Wolverine and Charles Xavier, and it's a treat to watch them saddle up for one last (?) performance. Both are at the top of their game in Logan, and get to take the characters into new places. The R rating means we get Wolverine fights in all their bloody, limb-chopping glory. Critical to the film working is that Dafne Keen does a tremendous job as X-23/Laura. When a child actor doesn't work it can crash a whole movie.

Logan really only had two flaws for me. One, at 137 minutes, it's a long film, and starts to feel like it in the last 20-30 minutes. Two, the villains of the film are nothing more than largely inept plot devices that pop up solely to keep our heroes from stopping in one place for very long. Fortunately, Jackman and Stewart are so strong that you don't really miss having a good baddie, but it feels like a lost opportunity to me. 8/10

I'm excited for Logan, can't wait to see it.

GOTG 2 I think is going to be great, I've seen the first one like 3 times already .

Guess i better check out the original before I catch the sequel. I hate seeing things out of order.

Hacksaw Ridge was better than I thought it would be.

Having been a Army medic for 21 years, I remember being told about him when I was a 20 year old youngster. 75 men. That number astounded me then and now older and having served in Afghanistan doing the same thing, I'm even more astounded. Being able to comprehend not only what he did but what he meant to those he served with is almost too much to ask of people.

Im a truly blessed man to have served my country in war and having the honor of being called "Doc" by those I served with.

Cool movie that was hard to watch...

Plus I would rather not watch ANY movie on anything less than a big screen TV with a sound system.

I get so angry trying to PornHub it on my phone. It makes their boobs too small, the all important dialogue difficult to hear and money shots seem like loose change.

I have a unique situation with my youngest and I spend many nights sleeping in his bed with him.
Needless to say "sleeping" usually equates to not sleeping, and being able to watch movies on the phone is a plus.
I went with the iPhone 7 plus this time around and couldn't be happier.

That website has first run movies as well as TV series all for free.
The pop ups are a pain, but I can limit those as well.

While I would prefer a movie theater and dolby surround sound, I have to take what i'm given.

Yes Hacksaw Ridge was an amazing movie. I just saw it and wanted to mention it hear, but I see others have watched it themselves.

This movie really made you think, how did these guys go on with there lives, and not have nightmares every night. Really makes you appreciate these guys even more.

I actually had to do some research on him, and it was a very interesting read. If anyone who watched this movie, should read about his life after the war it is very good.

Caught Lego Batman the weekend before last. Not quite as much fun as the Lego Movie but if you are a Batman fan it's a blast. Will Arnett is pitch-perfect and the Lego Batman is probably the best Batman since Bale. The opening sequence is absolutely bonkers fun, but after that it never quite hits that high again. Definitely worth a watch once it hits netflix.

While shopping today I found Hacksaw Ridge! I've already got plans tonight, but it looks like Sunday night will be movie night!

Quick question for you audio/video affectianados. I have a Blue Ray player because it plays both DVD and Blue Ray discs. I play both through this system. Personally the only difference I see in these two formats is the price!

Great flick. They borrowed a lot of stuff from "Full Metal Jacket", but that aside, this dude was a brave mother.

I really don't see you Mark as a Army medic not going to a weapon if needed. The Navy Corpsmen I served with carried 45 autos. We as Marines gave the Navy a lot of grief. Our Corpsman was always a step above. He did what we did and didn't bitch.
