jjakq27
The Bengals today signed free agent WR P.K. Sam to a two-year contract.Sam (6-3, 210; Florida State) was with the New England Patriots in 2004 and '05. He was selected by New England in the fifth round of the 2004 Draft, and as a rookie he played in two games (no statistics) before being placed Oct. 20 on the Reserve/Injured list with a groin injury. In 2005, he had 4 receptions for 41 yards in preseason for New England, was waived Sept. 3, and was signed Sept. 8 to the Patriots practice squad, where he spent the full season. Stripes
See ya Chris indeed... I doubt this guy even makes the practice squad though... Gonna have to waste another draft pick on a wideout because of a rookie being an idiot.
ArmyBengal
I remember P.K. playing at FSU and dude was WAY fast and 6'3 is nothing to snub your nose at. I see him in the same role as Henry, spread the field. That is, IF he can get the chance to do anything. This is a good pickup in my book...WHODEY !!! HoosierCat
Good piece on Sams from the pats' site:http://www.patriots.com/news/index.cfm?ac=...d=11993&pcid=41(Chris Henry needs to read this, too.)
kingwilly
Found the draft info on him.first it said he was 6'1' not 6'3", so we've got that usual discrepancy ...then he ran a 4.52 at the combine...not terrible but not WAY fast. Best case, he can step up and complement TJ and CJ...worst case, this is a scare tactic for CH by Marv, or is actually is a pre-cursor to CH getting the axe eventually. HoTbOy
with this happening so soon after the weed arrest, and as soon as he is out of Hue's sight he does this, he is gone...
DontPushMe
Just competition for training camp, nothing to make a big deal over. People are going to blow this way out of proportion because it happened so soon after the Henry arrest, but chances are he doesnt even make the team. He does have talent though so maybe he finally puts things together, probly not though.
HairOnFire
Pretty sure he was heavily featured in an old article I read about which players had made the poorest decisions about coming out early for that draft. In a nutshell, most draft observers felt Sams wasn't close to being ready, yet he jumped into one of the deepest WR draft pools in years. Despite what he claims I'd say he didn't drop a bit in that draft and went right where most had projected he'd go. At the time I figured he had gotten bad advice from an agent but the article Joisey posted makes it clear that Sams ignored very sound advice due to the sultry siren song of an SUV rolling on 26" rims. Put me in the camp that doesn't remember a burner. More like another version of the big possession receiver the Bengals already have in Housh, Tab, Washington, and Walter. However, I'm reminded that the latter two are restricted FA's so maybe that explains the interest. All things considered I'd put his odds of making the roster as less than break even. ShulaSteakhouse
Yeah they may still take a WR in the draft at some point...but it's a weak draft so this sort of move makes sense. The only thing this has to do with Henry, is that Henry won't be back next year regardless of what the Bengals' do with him. Most people do realize Henry is facing over 10 years in prison right? (not that he'll do nearly that much, I don't know). But considering the circumstances, his pending case here, and Florida's gun laws, something like 2-5 years is not out of the question. I hope he gets a year or less. But I have no idea ultimately.I would not be suprised to see Henry back here in a year or two though if he gets through it, any sort of NFL suspension, grows up, and gets a good plea bargain. Can't rule that out yet.
ArmyBengal
I can see all points made thus far and think that if he is indeed in the mold of a big possession receiver and we have FA's in our group, then why not get this guy who fits the role and then still have the option of getting something in return for Washington as far as the draft is concerned. Either way around and calling it what you will, I still am more than pleased with this pickup !!!WHODEY !!!
bengalindian
I agree with DPM. This has nothing to do with Chris Henry. And if it does, oh well. But PK Sam is NOT the replacement for Henry. Obviously he is not 3rd WR material if he has done nothing at all for the Pats the last two years. Definitely just more competition for spring camps. Everyone knows Marvin loves competition.
The_Next_Big_Thing
Isn't he a punt returner too?
schroomytunes
He is strictly competition, Everything really depends on Chris Henry and if someone really wants KW enough to cough up a 3rd or 4th rounder.
turningpoint
if chris get's off he'll be our 3rd wr.hello we have one of the best wr cores in the nfl, a guy who makes a practice squad is going to replace him LMAO.

Indycat
Isn't he a punt returner too?from da siteThe Bengals did work out and sign former Patriots wide receiver P.K. Sam, a fifth-round pick in 2004 who spent the 2005 season on the practice squad. He has played in just two games, and is seen primarily as a punt returner as the Bengals look to improve a part of their game that regressed last year.Link - at the bottom of the article
bengalbutch
Do people really still think Henry might be back in 2006? New England's WR corps isn't anything great and he wasn't even playing for them. This dude definitely isn't going to replace Henry and probably won't even make the roster.
