Kazkal Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I think henry was a big advantage as a #3 WR and would hate to lose his production but if he is gone for good or long period of time do you think we keep the squirrel? Quote
HairOnFire Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I wanted to keep K-Dub even before Chris Henry decided he had to keep it real, so the only thing that's changed is how much I'd be willing to offer Washington when I approach him with a multiple year contract. Quote
kingwilly Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 This amost guarantees that K-Wash will come back....maybe we even need to look at a WR in the middle rounds/FA. Ugh, what a disaster."Chris Henry, you just won the award for the dumbest pro athlete in 2006, now what are you going to do?" - reporter"I'm going to spend 3-5 with the fine folks at the Florida State Dept. of Corrections to get my s**t worked out." - CH Quote
schroomytunes Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I would offer kw the medium tender for a free agent which is 1.4 million, then if someone wants him they give us a 3rd round pick. If everything goes my way we let him go for a 3rd rounder then the draft plays out like this.1st round) Brodrick Bunkley (DT) Fla ST.---we gain a 5th rounder by trading down with Denver2nd) Greg Blue(SS) Georgia3rd) Anthony Fasano(TE) Notre Dame3rd from kw) Brodie Croyle(QB) Alabama4th)Greg Lee (WR) Pittsburgh5th)DT/DL5th)CB/S6th)OL7th)LBWe need to upgrade the defense and by adding a dt/ss we address 2 areas of weakness, and also get depth at many other positions that were not addressed in Free Agency. I still think we will sign a DE(Raheem Brock) in free agency as well as a DT/DE type backup player(ie Lional Dalton) that helps solidify the front seven. Our offense cannot be ignored, but restocked we must reload with young cheap talent to be able to resign the OL to extentions. Croyle allows us to let Kitna walk, the same goes for KW with the addition of Lee from Pitt. The signing of Fasano allows us to let Scoeble and Stewert walk, and we then go with a 3 man TE rotation of (Kelly,Fasano, and St.Louis) no need using 4 TE's again this year we can carry an extra man on game days. We then wait till June 1st and analyze Palmer's progress to see if we need to bring in a journeyman like(Fiedler,Flutie,or Martin) to compete with Krenzel. I still let Croyle take all the preseason/minicamp snaps. Possible Salary Cap cuts: John Thornton(DT) Brian Simmons(OLB) Tory James(CB)IMHO-one of these guys will be cut for salary relief. and of the 3 Simmons is the one easily replaceable, with Pollack and Johnson playing the OLB spots. James I don't wanna see go yet with a good SS or madieua back he should be fine rat isen't rdy to take over and may never be james doesn't have speed but he has arms Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I would offer kw the medium tender for a free agent which is 1.4 million, then if someone wants him they give us a 3rd round pick.I believe the mid-level tender upgrades the compensation to a 1st-round pick...which no one is going to do, so Kwash will return.I would certainly be willing to talk with him about a long-term deal...but the reality is we already have a good amount wrapped up in TJ and Chad, and I'm sure that Kwash thinks he's worth at least as much as TJ got. Most likely scenario, I think, is that they indeed tender him a bit higher in order to hold onto him for one m ore year, then draft a WR, probably somewhere around round 4. Then hope that either that guy, Tab or Walter can take over the 3rd WR hole in '07.Another option is to try to get Walter to agree to a long-term deal now. He's an RFA but is unlikely to ever find himself being seen as more than a No. 3/ST guy. Would certainly come cheaper than Kwash. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 We just need to draft Chad Jackson out of Florida in round 2! Give him #15 and really watch those announcers get tongue tied! Quote
kingwilly Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I'd rather wait till next year and snag Calvin johnson from GT. Quote
7/11 Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I'd rather wait till next year and snag Calvin johnson from GT. that guy is the next great receiver in the league...amazing talent, especially for a soph.him, chad and tj would be the most formidable trio in the league, by far.. Quote
Kazkal Posted January 31, 2006 Author Report Posted January 31, 2006 i want another big target /sniff atleast i get 1 more year of the squirrel dance Quote
Tasher Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 Keep him or not. Tab Perry moves into a more prominent role with Walter and Perry probably getting the bulk of those reps. But, I think it opens the now VERY REAL possibility that we take Davis or Pope with a 1st / 2nd round pick.Boy, won't this generate some healthy debate in the TE threads! This could just by accident add a dimension to our offense, presuming of course that Brat utilizes the TE (ahem, I mean Carson audibles and throws to the TE)! whoo hooo Quote

The Bengals just need to sget their Duck on. Demetrius Williams looks a whole lot like Chad on the field to me...same build and speed and has shown he's got stickum hands, unreal body control in the air, and more vertical threat than any other WR coming out in the draft. Draft him in Round 1 and what happens with Dopey and K-Dub won't matter. Quote

schweinhart Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 I'm sorry schweiny, but I can't believe what I'm hearing. Did your momma put cocaine in your applesauce when you were a baby? No, may she rest well, all I got was Captain Crunch blotter. It's really quite simple so I'll simplify it for it you. The Bengals need their vertical passing game and its constant threat for defenses to deal with in order to contend for a Super Bowl. No part of the Bengals offense or defense is important as this and now you have a major need at the position.Besides, there's no end to improving the defense in sight. It just has to be good enough not to allow more points than the offense puts up.Henry proved on the field he was not only the 3rd WR needed to draw single coverage down the sideline but also a deep threat on posts and slants, which also opened him up underneath and forced defenses to pick their poison between him, Chad, and Housh. Henry showed that he was much better at this than K-Dub but especially as a route runner who got separation. But now all that looks like it has changed.Demetrius Williams looks a lot like Chad on the field and should be able to step in immediately to do what Henry did and do it better than K-Dub could. kurgan74 Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 Unless the Bengals get a great offer for Kelly Washington, I believe the squirrel will be back in stripes. The possible (and probable) loss of Chris Henry will be felt. Hopefully, the addition of PK Sam to the rosterand Kelly Washington will lessen the impact. The guy I want for 2007 WR Ted Ginn, Jr. Quote

Stripes Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 Question to anyone...Ever since the Henry arrest, we've heard virtually nothing. Does anyone have any idea when we can expect to hear some news as to whether or not he will still be a Bengal in 2006? Quote
kingwilly Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 For 2007, I think we look at Calvin Johnson (GT). Dude is the real deal.Of the WR in this years draft, I think Schweiny's idea about Williams has merit but not in r1. Mike Hass, the biletnikoff winnner, may still be there in r2-4, granted we skip one of the top TE's. Hass was far more productive than Williams. A sleeper would be UCF's Brandon Marshall. Another big strong WR who steps up and rarely drops a ball, could be had in r4-6. There are several sleepers out there. Quote

andybren Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 Chris Henry's a bum, but he does demonstrate that something is missing from KWash's game. But then if you go after a speedster in the first 3 rounds, can you still go after that impact TE that half of this board is clamoring for? What about a versatile CB/S that makes Marvin all warm and tingly inside?Too bad Broussard isn't 6 inches taller. In the meantime, I'll have a Tab. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 Ignore all the noise about a top TE in the first two or three rounds, ain't gonna happen. Stacy the Dancing Bear is more likely to line up in stripes at tight end than Marcedes Lewis or Pope.Chad Jackson in round 3 if he drops I tell you. Quote
