walshfan
former OSU center Nick Mangold has been impressing everyone at the senior bowl workouts with his play. He's definately the top center in the draft...My question is would fans be upset with the Bengals if they were to choose Mangold with their first round pick. HoosierCat
In the first? Marvin would be crucified by the fans, me included.I've seen 2 mocks that have the Bengals taking Mangold, one in the second, the other in the third. I don't see it, not between Braham, Moore, Guy-check and Wilkerson.
TJJackson
I'd be moritified if they took a center high, if at all
ArmyBengal
I can't see center being addressed any earlier than the 6th and to tell you the truth, I'd rather not see it addressed AT ALL !!!WHODEY !!!
bengalboomer7
Gotta go with Joisey. In the first round I would be livid
cincy9275
i would have no problem drafting him in the first round . he is a beast . if you get a starter and potential probowler how can that be a bad pick that is the whole point is to draft good players . look at Levi the ESPN draft crew blasted us for picking him and a lot of people think he is better than big willie and should be in the pro bowl . and then they torched the colts for picking freeny and look at him now . The_Next_Big_Thing
We got two centers last draft. Both should be ready to start next season. Wilkerson was better than this doof, and Guichiac is as good.
Stripes
I don't think any of the Buckeye prospects would fit our needs well except perhaps Carpenter or Whittner.

kurgan74
I am a Buckeye fan, but I would be surprised if the Bengals took Mangold in round 1, unless they make a trade and got an additional 1st rounder. mangold has looked very impressive from the televised practices. He has dominated the North's DT in 1 on 1 and 9 on 7 matchups.
ShulaSteakhouse
I'd be ok with a Mangold or 0-line pick - ecspecially if they traded down for him if possible. Unless there was a consensus no-brainer defensive player there.Don't forget the entire o-line needs to re-signed after this year - that'll be extremely tough as it is, and Williams and Braham will have to go regardless. They might not have the chance to draft a top C or G next year.Wilkerson and Mangold could fill those spots and still keep the line playing at a high level...versus the possible alternatives. And please don't tell me Guy-chick is the future center, and Wilkerson at this point is completely unproven, and hasn't played in a year.Pro bowl caliber 0-lineman do not grow on trees, and you rarely get them beyond the 1st or high-mid 2nd round. I do not trust Alexander to develop anyone other than a bonifide, polished 1st round caliber o-lineman either. Notice how Goff is an all-pro in San Diego now? Things that make you go hmmmmm...... turningpoint
Why take Mangold when we coul just get a proven 4 yar older OSU center in the saints one that is a FA.
spazz70
I work in Centerville Ohio and know the Mangold's through my work. Have met both his parents and he wants to go to the Bengals. They have told me that he would love it. He is a beast and a leader. We can move another lineman to a new position. Third round is possible. rwalling
Love the Alter HS Grad! (Go Knights!)Not on the Bengals. No way in the world the Bengals take him. Even if he is the BPA by a wide margin, interior OL is an area of strength and depth for the Bengals.
GROIIIDayton
I could see them trading down with the pick and picking up an extra second rounder if there isn't a stud DT or Saftey in the bottom of round one. If this happens I believe we could pick him up. I heard wilkerson could compete with Williams for the other tackle spot.
smith288
Wilkerson was better than this doof, and Guichiac is as good.Yea... Mangold sucks.Bengals dont need to draft Mangold but to say he is a doof? Please.
HoosierCat
FWIW, Mangold is today's profile on PFW's site. They like him but seem to chalk up all the first-round-pick talk to a lack of good centers in this draft...Upside: Great technician. Is quick into blocks. Plays with great leverage and pad level. Natural knee-bender. Can sink his hips and anchor. Works to maintain position. Good hand use. Very good balance. Nice agility on the second level and can come off combo blocks and fit on linebackers. Always on his feet. Assignment-perfect. Very, very smart. Makes all the line calls. Very durable. Great work ethic. Vocal leader.Downside: Slightly barrel-chested and has a soft belly. Does not look the part. Not overly thick and a little bit top-heavy. Not very explosive and doesn’t play with a lot of pop and snap. Can improve his strength. Needs some help vs. massive space-eaters. Makes some poor blocks that led to big hits on quarterback. Does not always sense the blitz coming. Might be too cerebral and too nice. Tends to play down to level of competition and never dominates the way you want to see him do.The way we see it: Outstanding measurables and sound technique could be enough to bring Mangold off the board in the first round, given the scarcity of talent at the position in this draft. His base strength is not exceptional, but he has the quickness and intelligence desired at the position and should be able to earn a starting spot very soon.
