HoosierCat
I say "bit of a laugher" because it's tough to see us getting this lucky...http://www.football.com/draft/2006/mccollom_mock_draft.shtmlClaude Wrotten in the 1st? We should be so lucky. I will be stunned if he falls that far. Thrilled...but stunned. Some center in 2? Nah, but he's got Elvis Dumervil still on the board...thank you sir may I have another...?...no we got our DE in the second now so we'll take Jason Allen in the third, yup, yup, yup! NJ29
Hey, we don't need Dumervil if we get Kamerion Wimbley in the third. But there good safeties left where we pick in the second.

HairOnFire
Another 3-rounder...Bing...Pope...Darryl Tapp (DE)... IMHO that one is going to be hard to beat. BTW, I found myself not only agreeing with the choices made for the Bengals in that mock but also the value rankings given to many of the players previously linked to the Bengals by fans. For example, Wroten went in their mock at the top of the 2nd round. Gabe Watson lasts until the top of the 3rd.
HoosierCat
Another 3-rounder...Bing...Pope...Darryl Tapp (DE)...IMHO that one is going to be hard to beat.I certainly wouldn't complain, tho I have my doubts that Pope and Tapp last that long. The mock has Demario Minter still on the board in the second, I think I'd rather go that way vs. Pope. Not that Pope wouldn't be a good pick but given how the bengals use TEs it would probably be a waste of talent.
NJ29
Yeah, I don't think that Pope will last that long. And I'd rather have more of a speed guy than Pope.
redsbengalsbucks
I hope that we dont waste a first day pick on TE, a position that does not play a large role in improving this team.Defense (SS, DL and CB) is #1 priorityOL for the futureRB or QB late to challenge Watson and KrenzelTE on this team can be filled by what we have or FA/practice squad fodder, an upgrade here would be negligable improvment, compared to defensive upgrades. I agree, but when there is minimal defensive talent available when we pick in the first three rounds, a good tight end will look very attractive. redsbengalsbucks
I feel that if there was a third down TE it would just be taking away receptions from Perry. Why have a TE that will only play third down?

AMC
The Center in Round Two got me laughing pretty well....If nothing else Mock Drafts really can....well their mock drafts....But they are fun to look at and they help stoke the debate....Marvin's interview with Hobsy MAY HAVE introduced some clues to the draft board?????? You think?????

HoosierCat
The draftx guys have gone through the 1st 3 now...they give us...DT Rodrique Wright, TexasCB Darrell Hunter, Miami (Ohio)OLB Spencer Havner, UCLAhttp://www.nflfans.com/x/mock4.php
TJJackson
It's good they understand that the Bengals will almost assuredly go defense-heavy, particularly early....but I don't think the needs at LB are anywhere near as pressing as needs as S, DE, TE, or even OG/OT.Under normal circumstances, ie other than one where an absolute blue chip LB slips to late r3, I can't see a LB being taken by the Bengals earler than 7, possibly 6. But not 3.

Hunter is an interesting prospect who many think projects best to S but in my opinion he doesn't offer very much in the way of physical play. I've also got my doubts that he'll be picked on the drafts 1st day. Last, the Havner pick is hard to criticize, but it also doesn't excite much. kingwilly
I don't see the need for an LB on day one unless AJ Hawk slips to 24.

DesperateDerelict
[ I'll let others bash the Wright selection.Hair must be talking about me . . . Wright, who easily could have been a top 10 pick last year, has shown NOTHING since Halloween - no speed, surprisingly little strength, NO MOTOR, and not a helluva lot of discipline and desire. I firmly believe he will slide through the 2nd round into the 3rd, and possibly out of day 1 if he doesn't impress during the combine / private workouts. He's EXACTLY the kind of guy that can help himself tremendously at the combine, and the type of guy to skip it or refuse to work out.I think he's this year's version of A. Hawthorne, who slid from the middle of round 1 to round 4 last year.
TJJackson
I was totally, intractably in the "I want Rodrique Wright" camp at this time last year. Of course, he didn't declare, which I thought odd, but ah well. This year, his performance and attitude have swung me to very nearly the exact opposite, ie I still think he might pan out, but I don't think he should be picked earier than 3, and perhaps not at all. We don't need another unmotivated low motor D lineman, particularly not for high money, no matter how great his potential might be.I'd rather have a high motor guy with less potential. Period. HoosierCat
I dunno. IMHO Wright has earned his current diminished status legitimately, i.e. based on what he's done on the field the last two years. Guys who start moving up because of a senior bowl workout (Gabe Watson, for example) or a private workout or good combine numbers are ones who worry me a lot more. Wright doesn't excite me, but if he were the pick I'd be OK with it.
derekshank
Wright is the second coming of Matthias Askew. Low motor guy with little desire. I'm with TJJackson. High motor over-acheivers almost always do better at the next level than under-acheivers, regardless of their potential. You want a high motor over-achiever? Look no further than Jesse Maholena. He just finds a way to get in the backfield again, and again, even being double-teamed... and no one can quite figure out how he's doing it.
