MARVIN=W'S Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Sorry I can't attach a link but I just heard ML say on 700 WLW that they have been working T Perry @ safety. I think if ML said it on the radio openly that it must be close to happening. He said Tab has been working at safety and doing well don't be suprised if he earns some playing time on that side of the ball. For what its worth I would be all for it Ifanye scares the hell out of me. He's not that good, thats why he was on the waiver wire I guess. Tab and KK sounds good. Quote
membengal Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Um, I heard that to be a massive joke. He said it while chuckling unless I missed something. It was in response to a question about whether Tab could return punts. He said something like "he would play defense if we would let him".Context, people. Quote
BengalPappaw Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 I like the idea of Tab Perry playing safety. He certainly has the size and speed -- but he hasn't played safety since high school. He appears to tackle better than OHlahateme -- Quote
NYBengalfan Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 But what would happen when Madieu gets back?? Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 If true this confirms Ohalete really is junk and we're not just seeing things.Does Marvin think he's Belichick? Quote
Stripes Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 This sounds bogus to me. I doubt this ever happens. Quote

ahanes Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Ohalete sucks. There's no other way of saying it. I'm glad the Bengals won yesterday but that attempted tackle by Ohalete on Quincy Morgan's touchdown was the same crap we've seen all year from him. I'd be surprised if this guy even makes the roster next year. Give me Rogers Beckett over him every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Quote

How about when we play the Chargers in the first week of the playoffs and he's covering Antonio Gates? Tab might not be Troy Brown, but it doesn't hurt to consider our options. Quote
kingwilly Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 True or not, the fact that it keeps coming up seems to me that there must be something to it.I'd be all for him coming in as part of a nickel or dime to sub for Ificouldonlytackle Ohiforgot. Quote
HairOnFire Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 I see better than I hear, and I don't expect to ever see Tab Perry playing safety. What I do expect to see is players like Bauman and Brooks getting more playing time as the Bengals increasingly pull Ohalete in favor of more dime coverage. As for next season, I wouldn't rule out the Bengals passing on a safety if they can't find one who fits their unique profile...prompting a move of Tory James to safety . Quote
HoosierCat Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 At the risk of repeating myself, I'll again note that Lap mentioned a few games back that Tab had originally been recruited by UCLA as a safety...so if someone on the Bengals is looking at him as a potential DB it wouldn't be the first time. But also as I've said, I think any move in that direction would be a "next season" thing. As for the idea of moving James to safety, I recall floating that idea myself last year, but people questioned whether Tory still had enough speed to play there effectively. Dadraftnick Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 You guys left something out. The part where Tab Perry was All-American at the safety position in high school and Marvin has been working him out at the position for a while. So, he's pretty good. You cant bame Perry he just wasts to get on the field more.He wants to "expand his role"as Marvin would say.Another thing I would say is that Ohalete is not that bad, he is a million times better than Kim Herring looked at the begining of the year. We are lucky that Herring went down and we had to go with(pick up) Ohalete.Ohalete is a weakness and he is no David Fuher or Ken Riley but he beats the hell out of Kim Herring. Quote
bengalbutch Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 WLW on Bengals line last night, Tab was on and talking about it. He said he's been working at safety and loved it. He said everyone told him he was crazy in college for switching to wide reciever, but he love offense. With his size and speed, and the way he hits on special teams, I love it. Quote

The part where Tab Perry was All-American at the safety position in high school and Marvin has been working him out at the position for a while.Don't know anything about where Marvin might have been working him out. Perry was All-American (ssecond string) coming out of HS...but that was for his work at wideout, not safety, as far as I can tell. All of the doubters could be dead wrong I guess, but it's hard to imagine that Marvin would attempt to introduce Perry into the defensive backfield as the Bengals prepare to play their 13th game. kingwilly Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 consider the next several games are vs really bad passing offenses. What a better chance to get Tab some live game-time situations...CLE - rookie QB and second rate WR's.DET - Garcia and undisciplined WR'sBUF - first year QB with underachieving WR'sIf they do give him some time in the nickel or dime, now is the time, or wait till next year... HairOnFire Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 I stumbled across a post on another board where this topic was being discussed and the poster claimed that he had heard the remarks and Marvin was considering using Perry as a punt returner as well as working with him at safety. Punt returner? Yeah. Safety? I got my doubts. Quote
kingwilly Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 If he is good enough to run down and make tackles on kicks and punts, why not on centerfield on 3rd and long passing plays?????????Ohalete has directly cost the bengals, by my count, at least 4 TD's and the PI call vs GB at the end. HoosierCat Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 If he is good enough to run down and make tackles on kicks and punts, why not on centerfield on 3rd and long passing plays?????????Ohalete has directly cost the bengals, by my count, at least 4 TD's and the PI call vs GB at the end.I can think of two reasons. Fiirst, there's the don't mess with success rule. Yeah, Ohalete has f**ked up multiple times...but we are still 9-3. 3-9, put the kid in. 9-3...I'm inclined to let sucking dogs lie.Second reason is simply that he's a rookie and I want his butt to have the offensive system down to a frigging T in case (gawd forbid) there's an injury to TJ or Chad and he needs to come in at WR. Our O is our life and he needs to be ready. Call it the "Stacy Andrews rule:" learn your primary position first and then we will think about other stuff. Quote
denverbengal Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 I just watched the weekly replay of the game on NFL Network and found myself cringing every time I saw 26 on the field. Watching Ohtheyhateme bounce off people and serve no purpose other than to take up space and get in the way of team-mates, reminded me of the good old days when I used to watch Lewis Billups (R.I.P.), in dumbfounded bewilderment as to why he was even on an NFL football field! You just know he's gonna cost you, it's just a matter of when. Not that that's a news flash to anyone. It's only a matter of time until his lack of game bites us in the ass.We can afford to take a chance on letting that happen now (maybe), but the playoffs are another thing. If Tab gets work at safety and proves to be even close to an upgrade over the next few weeks (big if, yes), why wouldn't Marvin use him in the playoffs? We're not exactly deep at the position. It would appear that Marvin is interested. Getting past the first round will be next to impossible with Onlygaysdateme dragging down a defense that's already a little light in the feet.*Note: I have nothing against homosexuals Quote
HoosierCat Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 Props for Perry, named AFC ST Player of the Week...http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=4893 Quote

skyline Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 I'll trust the coaches on this one, but in terms of wishful thinking...sounds like a GREAT idea to me... Quote
CantStop85 Posted December 8, 2005 Report Posted December 8, 2005 Sounds like a good idea on paper...the kid's a playmaker. Who knows how it would turn out in a game though. I think it's just a question of learning defensive schemes, coverages, and plays...it doesn't happen overnight. Quote
