schweinhart Posted November 27, 2005 Report Posted November 27, 2005 Forgive me. But I hope the Steelers beat the Colts by 30 points. I hope Peyton Manning gets his nose bloodied and his lip busted. I hope The Edge gets 15 carries for 0 yards. I hope the Colts defense is gutted, and I hope there is fear in the heart of Tony Dungy for the whole game. Why, some might ask.For old time's sake.I want the Bengals victory over the Steelers next Sunday to be the sweetest and most meaningful it can be. Win that one and they are on their way for real this year. Some of you ignert MFers who have been Bengals fans for a long time should have no prob understanding why this is so. Quote

AGrizzlyBaer Posted November 27, 2005 Report Posted November 27, 2005 sorry man im gonna have to go against you, i want the colts to win, and to win big Quote
schweinhart Posted November 27, 2005 Author Report Posted November 27, 2005 Well appreciated comments...and more sensible than ignert But the older I get, the more unsympathetic I am of any kind of welfare...corporate, individual, and yes even when it applies to NFL teams reaching the playoffs for a chance at The Bling. But I want to see a game next week that's as big as any seen by Bengals fans since the last Super Bowl loss. I want it all to come together with everything on the line for better or worse. It looks like the Bengals may get no help for the rest of the season....The Bolts beat the Deadskins in OT and the Chiefs punked the Pats.Zona beating the Jags...even with Garrard at QB... is unlikely, but I'll be watching and rooting for Zona. All I'm saying is bring the sh*t on next week. Bring it on like it ain't been brought on for a long, long time.Besides, I despise Peyton Manning Quote
cHaD711Johnson Posted November 27, 2005 Report Posted November 27, 2005 I definately want the Colts to win..Any help we can get is gladly accpeted.. Then we will whoop the Steelers next week to deliver them their second straight loss which makes it better! Quote
andybren Posted November 27, 2005 Report Posted November 27, 2005 I hate to see the Colts undefeated, but you gotta root against the Steelers. We're talking the playoffs, here. Playoffs! Quote
Spain Posted November 27, 2005 Report Posted November 27, 2005 No s**t if they lose 2-3, and we lose to them but go 2-1 in the next 3 weeks we still can win the division! 9-3 Bengals , 8-4 Steelers Quote
jamesbrooks21 Posted November 27, 2005 Report Posted November 27, 2005 There is absolutley no reason to cheer for Pittsburgh. If Pittsburgh loses the next two games then we are going to have a home playoff game. We don't need Pittsburgh to win to make next week's game any bigger. Quote
duus Posted November 27, 2005 Report Posted November 27, 2005 Could never agree with this. Want the Steelers to win? Come on! That is just plain dumb! Do you not understand how important winning the division is? Ugh. I simply cannot believe this thread is taking place. Quote

bengalindian Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 I've been a fan for the 20 years of my life, and I could never see myself wanting the Steelers to win, just because it would be sweeter to win next week? That makes no sense. It's always sweet to beat the Steelers. Quote
NYBengalfan Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 I cant agree with this. If Pitt loses then we'll be a game up. And if we beat them next week we'll be up 2 games on them.In my 14 years as a Bengals fan I developed a intense hatred for Pittsburgh and could never root for them to win even a preseason. Quote
Whur CHad At? I hate them. La alal alalBesides from around the league they are saying the Colts shouldnt worry about this one at all because the Steelers are too soft w/ their secondary. Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 I'd throw a poll on this thread if I wasn't so sure it would turn out schweinharts one vote against everyone elses! Whur CHad At? Posted A minute ago I have been a Bengals fan my whole life and I hope the Steelers get burned, choked slamed, dominated, man-handled, tea bagged, and humilated. Tea Bagged? Why don't you just throw in them "Tossing The Colt's Salad" while you're at it for crissakes! (That's what this smilely first made me think of!) Quote

And on top of that, I really, REALLY, REALLY don't want to spend the next week hearing on sportcenter about how great the steelers are. Seriously I think all that talk about the steelers would make me sick. maybe you should reconsider who you really want to win this game... . . . Quote
schweinhart Posted November 28, 2005 Author Report Posted November 28, 2005 After further review, the play called on the field has been reversed. Or as LBJ said about keeping J Edgar Hoover, Better to have him inside the tent pi$$ing out, than outisde the tent pi$$ing in.As much as I'd like to see the Bengals maximize their focus and determination for a no-holds-barred, winner-take-all showdown in Pitt (and maybe even catch them overconfident off a big win over the Colts), the playoff picture is just too murky still. The Bengals no doubt control their own fate, but asking them to win out is just too much to ask when the margin for error is as slight as it is in the NFL.Besides, the Bengals have come too far for a decade and a half and done too well this season not to make the playoffs, regardless of how they get there. It would be great to watch Peyton Manning get skulled tonight. But, just to cover the Bengals playoff butt, a healthy and confident Manning definitely would help not only tonight but also when the Colts play the Bolts and Jax.I'd hate to see Jax and SD keep the Bengals out of the playoffs if all three had 11-5 records. That would suck. And it would be even worse to see the Bengals not go even if they beat Pittsburgh next week but the Steelers still wind up with a better overall record and the Bengals lose out in the wildcard tiebreakers.Unfortunately, I do think the Steelers will win tonight. The key to beating Manning is pressuring him and LeBeau will be bringing the overload and zone blitz all game long. The Steelers should have enough in the secondary, especially with the emergence of Bryant McFadden, to give the pressure time to get to him. Quote

ArmyBengal Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 I understand the concept, but cannot root for ANY team from the AFCN to win at any time. I was one who wanted the Colts to come into Cincy undefeated just for a shot at some limelight, completely overlooking the fact that any loss by a team with a better record than ours should be a welcomed one. Anyway, still enjoying yesterdays beatdown !!!GO COLTS !!!WHODEY !!! Quote

With a slug like that, surely you understand the synergy of the history involved in this -- unless you're were a James Gang roadie or just don't care that the 49ers sucked the soul out of the Bengals and their fans twice. While I do realize that I departed from the realm of "significance" as it pertains to the Bengals playoff quest of 2005 by wishing for a Steelers win over the Colts, surely there was a dimension of SIGNIFICANCE more at work in my poor misguided logic. That dimension extends far back beyond this year. And that significance for this game on Sunday is a SIGINIFICANCE that restores the legacy of the Bengals to its rightful place in the NFL. One that was still glimpsed and felt when the Bengals beat the Steelers in Pitt in 1990 when both teams came into that game even and the winner took all...well at least the Central. A significance that puts the Bengals back on the road they were carjacked from by Mike Brown and gives the organization the spine it needs and the fans needs to know it has to help claw their way past the Steelers, not just as a better team in 2005 but as an organization that can gain the glory Paul Brown strived for but could only watch the Steelers, the 49ers, and others claim. A win Sunday like the win 15 years ago to almost to the day will pretty much do the same as it did then -- get the Bengals in the playoffs -- but its "signifcance" I dare say is much more than that. The damage that has been done in the last decade plus will be undone. Now that the Steelers have lost to the Colts, they are staring 7-5 right in the face if they don't beat the Bengals. Obvisouly, if the Steelers win Sunday, they are in first place and well on their way to win the North. There are extenuating circumstances about the Steelers at this point in time given the return of Big Ben (who looked slow and innacurate from what I saw in the 2nd half) and James Farrior (who looked like he was choring to keep his game legs). Hard to imagine both won't improve with another week of practice. But there's urgency on that team now that they face 7-5 because that record severely diminishes their playoff chances. Their backs are much more against the wall now than if they would have been showing up at 8-3. And I'll guarantee that Chin Face gets everything out of his players because of that combined with the fuel of knowing they have shoved the Bengals heads up their a$$e$ the three games since Palmer has been at the helm. And overall the Steelers looked like total crap vs. Indy, which won't sit well in Pittsburgh either. So I would say we'll find out fairly quick come Sunday whether or not a Steelers win over the Colts might have actually helped the Bengals reach the playoffs if it turns out to look like it couldn't have been any worse.Hopefully, the Bengals can overcome any extra motivation the Steelers may translate into performance on the field with the high-octane offense they've strung together the last 2 games and some smarter and tougher defense. And hopefully, the Bengals, the organization, and fans all approach this game with the full "significance" it merits.WHOOOOOOOOOOODEYDESTROY THE STEELERS Quote
