turningpoint Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 We have the best corner tandem in the league period, IDC what your arguements are.Deltha Oneal owns everyone with 6 ints( well on pace for the probowl and most int's in a single season for a long time), tory who made the probowl last year is on pace for another 8 ints, he has 4 through 8 games. We have our 2 starting safeties out for the year, and we are still blanketing their wr corps.Madiue Williams when healthy is one of the top 5 safeties in the AFC, he was just placed in IR today, but has been out the past 3 weeks. As of right now we have starting at safety a guy that was cut by the cardinals, ifanyi ohelete, and kevin keasvaharn an assistant school teacher from SD.Not to mention were playing some 4-4 sets to try and stop the run, so it's really just our corners vs their wr's, with a single safety. We may not have played against the best passing offense in the nfl, but we've shutdown Mcnair, Favre, Rothlisberger( we have his only int), and Culpepper. membengal Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 Yeah, we really do. They don't get the notices that others do, but that should come along any day now. O'Neal and James are clearly as good as it gets right now in the league. Second best trade acquisition (behind JB) and best free agent in the team's history.Love watching them play. And, sometimes, when I get frustrated with a completion, I smack myself upside the head and recall the Rod Jones/Artrell Hawkins days and get over myself. Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 Can't disagree. Deltha ecspecially.Edit: I don't think Deltha's better or worse than Tory, just that he's having an incredible first half, and has obviously improved. Quote
Stripes Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 I think Deltha has solidified himself as a top ten cornerback in this league, and possibly even better. Tory may be in the twighlight of his career, but his best football is being played right now. We are definitely good to go at corner. Quote
bengalindian Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 Kiewan is also a solid 3rd. Though he needs to STOP fair catching it within the 10! Quote
BengalByTheBay Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 We have the best corner tandem in the league period, IDC what your arguements are.Well, what about....hummmm...and then there's...... Okay, just kidding, but you should be a little more inviting of informed disagreement. You do have a good point, but I think league-wide people would disgree mainly based on man coverage skills. What they cannot disagree about, however, is ball-hawking. Man, while they have gotten several gifts, I would have to say that Tory James especially has made some incredible plays on the ball this season. (That's not to say Deltha hasn't made plays, but TJ has been flashing serious athleticism.) I don't remember either of these guys being able to go over the top of receivers so well without contact in the past. I would have to say that this has been (through 8 games) the absolute best I have seen our CB's play since I can remember. Quote
HoosierCat Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 From Lenny's Morning After column today...(from the "scout's take" section)"They don't impress you that much until you put on the tape, but [bengals cornerbacks] Tory James and Deltha O'Neal are doing all the little things right, really communicating well. They had another big day [combining for nine tackles, three interceptions and five passes defensed] on Sunday." Quote
AGrizzlyBaer Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 tom jackson on monday night coutdown called deltha his first half defensive mvp Quote
Gregory Gall Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 I agree. If I had my choice of any two corners out there it would be those two (and Ratliff can stay too).I don't know if it's true but I heard somewhere that Tory's knee (that he had surgery on) is so deformed that the guys that see it in the locker room wonder how he can even run with it. walshfan Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 KK is having a fine year.... dont knock him for his play last year.. He's getting it done now and thats all that matters.... Quote
turningpoint Posted November 1, 2005 Author Report Posted November 1, 2005 KK is having a fine year.... dont knock him for his play last year.. He's getting it done now and thats all that matters....I'm not,but when your 2 starting safeties are out, and were still shutting down the pass is a huge statement.KK is a backup Safety it's as simple as that, He's a great backup safety. But a back up is a backup.Look at the eagles safeties....Imagine if we had those 2 guys.I don't understand how that 2ndary allows 4 td passes, it's like a joke. bengalskyspy Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 I will definitely say I told you so about Deltha Oneal. In a topic before the season, someone asked for Bengals Pro Bowl predictions. Mine was Deltha Oneal. His athleticism is freakish. Now he has taken to the BEngals coaching. What brilliant move by Marvin. He deserves huge credit for getting him. Damn its good when your players make you look look like a genius. Quote
CBin2k7 Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 Just think how much better the secondary would be if we had any pass rush Quote
jamesbrooks21 Posted November 2, 2005 Report Posted November 2, 2005 Just think how much better the secondary would be if we had any pass rushThat's what I'm saying. Deltha and Tory are having to cover their guys longer. That's what I think makes this whole thing even more impressive. If we were getting more heat on the QBs just think of what they might be doing. Scary to think about it. Quote
