This is just one game, and it really has no effect on this team. Sure losing does suck, but see it for what it is. Not a bad effort and they improved on some blatant errors. We will be fine, no matter what some fans say while they jump off the bandwagon.

Bahhh.

Nobody's jumping off the bandwagon.

This team is has won six of it's last seven dating back to last year.

What tonight has driven home is that this team isn't ready for the Super Bowl just yet.

Ya know what?

That's fine. Give the defense another year to grow, and everything will come out berries.

We're still seeing some residual growing pains. Remember folks, this is a YOUNG football team. Injuries and penalties will still sink them. Those are the types of things that only veteran clubs can overcome on the road...Under the lights...In front of a national audience....With Joe Theismann and Paul McGuire actively rooting against them.

"Us against the World" is the order of the rest of the season. Circle the wagons, and tear 'em up the best you can the rest of the way.

That's how winning football teams are made.

It's only week 5 and being 4-1 still feels good,

I take a lost in stride and home it gives bengals incentive to play their ass off the next 2 weeks not losing A game they should win(titans) and beating the steelers @ home

I'm a little worried about the Titans.

I have a feeling tonight will begin a little bit of a skid for the Bengals.

Of course, they'll rebound at home against the Steelers, but it's more than tough to win road games in the NFL.

Forget it and move on, this is still a good team and I am sure they will learn from it.

They lost by 3, Palmer keeps them in games despite their weakenesses. As great as he is, he still has a tendency to choke up in certain situations (red zone and 3rd downs late). I swear it's a sympton of Bratkowski's offense because Kitna did the same things. But I can't fault him too much as Perry and Levi both didn't do their jobs on that last play.

The defense has some liabilities still and they'll have to rise above that for now on offense all year long.

Get 'em next week and learn from it as always hopefully.

Okay...I agree with the whole jist of your post, but I can't let your Bratkowski comment go unchallenged.

Please, do tell.

How does an offensive coordinator's scheme affect critical individual mistakes late in a game?

I think having a defensive player swat at a QB's arm as he's cocking back to throw more of a luck/missed block thing more than a scheme thing.

What in the world does scheme have to do with a left tackle and a running back missing blocks on the same guy?

Looks like the scheme had the guy blocked, but the players didn't to me, and Carson's too busy trying to complete a pass as he should have been.

Ahh ya quitter  ............ 1 loss and you're ready to give up on the Super Bowl??

I still see us at 8-1 on Nov 20 playing the Colts and competing for home field advantage through out the playoffs.

I am officially jumping off the bandwagon. This team is going down the tubes fast and it showed tonight!

No, you're not. You still are very much on this bandwagon, and in truth would not consider something so stupid. You've taken on the persona of "Mr. Negative," and that is fine. Still, must you live up to that title in every single post? I don't buy it.

So then, are you saying that the Super Bowl champs, the Patriots who have lost 2 games are even less ready for the Super Bowl than we are? Denver isn't ready for the Super Bowl because they lost a game? I guess the ONLY team in the NFL, by your logic, that is ready for the Super Bowl is the Colts. Guess they'll be there all by themselves and take home the trophy without a game.

IT IS ONLY ONE GAME. We are still, regardless of Pittsburgh's game tonight, in charge of our own division.

IT IS ONLY ONE GAME. We control our future. We can use this as a learning experience and get better.

IT IS ONLY ONE GAME. If we only win every other game for the rest of this season, we still go to the playoffs.

IT IS ONLY ONE GAME. It gave our backups at several positions good learning experience against a talented team, and they didn't let us down (that much). Ghuicac had his first start, and a full game of learning against one of the best defensive tackle tandems in the league, and we still nearly won the game. Yeah, there were blunders, but I do believe we found our center of the future.

IT IS ONLY ONE GAME! If you're ready to give up a shot at the Super Bowl now, please send your jersey to New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina survivors. I'm sure they'd love to be whining about losing one game right now.

Yeah, only one game. You're correct.

Are the Patriots less ready than Bengals? Yes. They've been decimated by injuries, and I can't see them on the field in Detroit.

Denver? I'd bet my first born that they won't make it.

Pittsburgh? They always have a realistic shot, but I don't see them making it past Indy.

I'm as happy as anyone about Cincinnati's quick start, and they've made positive strides since last season, and I like all of the personnel Marvin's brought in, but does that make them a Super Bowl contender? I hope I'm wrong, but no.

Not yet.

They're not ready.

Yet.

Sorry that I was being pragmatic. I thought this board was designed for discussion.

How in the world is that whining?

Btw...Why don't you read my whole post?

Ya know, the part where I said it's okay because we're seeing some residual growing pains, or the part where I said give the defense another year to grow.

Instead, you yourself chose to whine about someone pointing out that the team isn't perfect.

Comprehension isn't such a difficult concept.

If it ain't Super Bowl, it's just another losing season. :bengal:

Like it or not, we will need to wait until after the first Steeler game to evaluate where we are.

If we are 6-1 after that, then the season is for real and we can get REALLY EXCITED.

If we are 5-2, there is cause for concern, but we still have things in the right direction.

If we are 4-3, then I am going to be crying.

It's so early in the year that it's almost precambrian.

Thing is, I kinda like where they are.

Some of the warts were a little more exposed last night, and they didn't lose because of talent differential.

They have the horses to make it a very fun season, and 6-1 could be something very real to shoot for.

I just really worry about that Tennessee game. These old AFC Central opponents give me a case of the yips. 1990's shell shock, you could say.

We wont win consistently till the O line is in tact! The Titans are going to be hard but if Braham(guychuck) play well we will blow them out!

I don't think that the offensive line was the problem last night.

They just need to point the gun at the target, instead of the foot.

You're not being pragmatic, you're being pessimistic and foolish. One lost game does not a season end. If losing one game means you can't go to the Super Bowl, whos' going this year? I read your entire post, but your conclusion is so unsound, you could compare it to following the logic of Xeno who said one could never move because you must first move halfway, and before you can move halfway, you must move halfway in between, infinately. Enjoy the fact that our young guys had us in this game until the very end. Realize that we should have our #1 safety, our #2 WR, our #1 center, back by the time the playoffs come around, AND that should we continue to play like we have been, we are a cinch for the playoffs when it all starts over 0-0 again.

I think for the most part the Bengals might have actually earned more respect this morning than they had after last weeks game. Sure the run D was not up to par, but everyone got a chance to see that this is not the same old Bengals team.

The old Bengals would have got demolished just like they did in Atlanta in 02. I am in for the long haul and I can't wait until the Bengals are hosting a playoff game.

by the way, we are still in first place.

Nextbigthing:

Pragmatism: The meaning of an idea or a proposition lies in it's observable or practical consequences.

Idealism: The art of envisioning things in ideal form.

See, you're an idealistic type of guy. That's okay with me, so I'm not gonna knee jerk and bash at away at you because you think this team will win a Super Bowl this year.

Unbridled optimism is fun, but don't drop it on my head like a lead weight just because I can see the team taking baby steps before they make the leap.

Will they go to the playoffs?

I think they will.

Could they beat a San Diego, or New England, or Denver or Kansas City if they played them in the first round?

I think they've got the talent to do that.

I just don't think they're at the maturity level do much more yet.

I'm fine with that, and I'm not going anywhere. I've stuck it out with them for twenty eight years, good and bad, and from what I've seen in my life as a Bengals fan, this year's addition is far superior to most.

I'm a patient man. I can wait a year or two while they become optimized, and they will. I think it's fun watching a team grow.

I think you're just going to have to either put me on ignore, or learn to deal with me, because this is how I talk about football, and I refuse to get into some kinda silly flame war with you.

The way I see it, we both believe the Bengals will play in a Super Bowl.

We just disagree on the time frame is all.

I can live with that.

Can you?

You misunderstand me. I'm not saying we ARE going to the Super Bowl this year. What I am saying is that to say that because we lost ONE close game, on the road, under the lights, with several key injuries, is NO REASON TO SAY WE WONT go to the playoffs, which is what you did. You had a knee jerk reaction that you call "pragmatic", based on incomplete observations. I'm saying that we can still go to the playoffs. You can jump off the bandwagon for this year if you want. I'm not going to put you on ignore, I know how to deal with you. I'll just quote you each game we win as saying we can't go to the playoffs this year.
