I know Shayne is great and that's the first thing everyone wants to say. but, let's face it, he had an injury to his kicking leg, and I hope it never returns. Anyone miss Rackers at all? I mean the guy put a kickoff through the uprights. That's 80 yards. I know that it's on a tee but still. Anyone?

Don't forget Mexico has 1.5 times the elevation of Denver. A kickers dream. He also kicked a line drive every time. Won't wok in normal elevation. Even if 5 yards deep in the EZ not a good kick. Shane has a better percentage than Rackers. Don't miss him, but keeping him would not have been bad.

I thought Rackers had turned it around before being booted from Cincy, but most fans here were going to be very slow to embrace him again, if ever. Besides, coaches have to be comfortable with their core players and neither Lewis or Darrin Simmons seemed willing to accept Rackers ever changing technique regardless of whatever success he was having at the moment. They seem like the types who want to see machine-like precision each and every kick and Graham gives them that.

No, I don't miss Rackers a bit. In fact, I've never chanted for a kicker before, but the cheer of "Opie, Opie, Opie" is a familiar sound in my house.

He's made a record 14 straight and has a stronger leg than Shayne.

The Bengals gave up on him too quickly as he was forced to kick in a mud pit here for 2 years.

Some times this happens, oh well, Graham has done a great job and is reliable, I'm over it.

I liked Rackers, and always pulled for him while he was in Cincy, but no...

I'd take Graham any day.

In my book they're presently equally as good. I watched Neil Rackers during the Cardinals Training Camp here in Prescott Arizona where I live, and he never missed a kick that I saw, And I attended at least 10 practices.

Here's a few pics. I yelled at him while pointing at my Bengals shirt just before I took this one. He glanced at it and never looked back at me again! <_<

Remember the 2001 season when Rackers missed the Extra Point against Pittsburgh. That would have put us ahead 24-23. yeah we came back and won in OT but that was sickening.

Shayne is one o the most accurate kickers in the league.

 Cheers to you Shayne

He pretty much had the team made in 2003 if I remember. But wasn't Rackers injured when he was released or something? Or there was some issue with his legs and that's why they brought Graham in?

Here are the specific game logs for the 2001 season. He missed at home and on the road. I see a 0-1 at Pittburgh and an 0-2 at Cleveland, so don't excuse him because of the field. Shayne Graham kicked on the same field in 2003 and didn't seem to have problems.

This reminds me of the Steve Foley BS last year. Remember he was released by the Texans last year too.

Shayne Graham forever, Neil Rackers never.

I thought Rackers was getting better before he left. He is much longer than Shayne Graham and is now consistently as accurate. I don't miss Rackers because we haven't lost much if any in Shayne.

However, Rackers is doing awesome in Arizona, and to deny this is absurd. He was getting better when he left Cincy and today he is probably a top 3 kicker in the league (statistically he is top 3, but as i have seen before statistics are not everythinh).

Rackers has gotten this season off to a 16 for 16 start. That is great, and good for him. Last year, however, he missed 7 of his 29 attempts, while Shayne only missed 4 of 31. Rackers's huge start to 2005 is bound to slow down sooner or later, while Graham has been nothing but consistent.

Last season, Phil Dawson of the Browns also started the season very accurate and on a roll. At one point, he had the longest active made field goals streak in the league. The game where that streak ended, he missed two very makeable field goals, and has since been abysmal.

If Rackers can maintain this standard of kicking, then this thread may have a little more of a point, but until he proves he can play consistently, Graham will dominate this conversation every time, whether it is being discussed by Bengals fans or not.

Yeah, really.. Rack was horrible when he was here. Even though I think we won this game, the anouncer sounding mortified and saying, "He missed the extra point..!!" will always ring inside my head. ~.~

C'mon folks. Let's be fair, huh? No kicker in the history of the game hasn't missed a kick once in a while during their careers. Right now I say Graham and Rackers are two of the leagues best. There's a few teams out there right now that would just LOVE having them instead of the lame legs they're saddled with presently!

Shayne Graham Stats

http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/289074

Niel Racker's Stats

http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/187627

Niel has 37 touchbacks in the last two years, Shayne has 2.

Niel, over the last two years has done considerably well kicking the ball.

Shayne struggled before he got here, but no one cares about this. Niel struggled before he got to Arizona and i'm sure no one cares out there. People in Arizona would definately take Rackers over Shayne, and it is absurd to think they wouldn't. By the way, Niel hasn't missed an extra point in three years, so i think you guys can stop worrying.

I don't miss Rackers, but he is a good kicker and i would not be sad if he played here.

Funny part was at the game Sunday my wife asked me twice after kickoffs, "Wasn't that the KICKER that made the tackle? I thought we had other guys to do that!?" Exactly.

Just one small clarification. Shayne struggled to get a solid spot on a team, but he never struggled like Neil did. He missed an important kick in ONE game on his first kick with a new holder and snapper with Panthers (and I don't mean first game kick, I mean first kick. He was signed night before game). His % has always been respectable. Now, I know that's not really what you meant, but...as a sis, I just have to clarify. :)

Carry on.
