BuckeyeDan Posted September 29, 2005 Report Share Posted September 29, 2005 The Cincinnati Bengals............It kinda disgusts me to admit it, but they certainly aren't the Bungles anymore. We have all seen a few Bengals fans here and there, and I am sure more will crawl out of the woodwork now that they are playing well and winning games, but the real question is: are they really that good ??They got away from the Browns in the second half in week one, and it is pretty obvious that was their toughest test so far. Looking at their schedule, I only see four games they stand any real chance of losing, those being the two Steeler games, the Colts, and the Browns rematch in December. I would suggest they might lose to the Jags in week five, but not the way Jax is beat up (especially Leftwich).It is hard to ignore the fact that they really have it going on down there in Cincy, but until I see them play well for a full 60 minutes against a quality opponent (Minnesota could have been, but WASN'T), I am not ready to put them among the elite teams in the AFC (as in NE, Indy, & ....ugh, Pissburgh)!!Then again, should they lose ALL four of the potentially tough games I mentioned, they would STILL be 12 - 4. Glad to see the guys up north are taking notice.A lot of guys here have also been impressed with the Browns. You're right, they have been our toughest opponent as of yet. I honestly think the Browns could steal a game away from Pittsburgh and Baltimore, and get as far as 7-9 or 8-8. I certainly hope you, for obvious reasons. That is ok though, as much smack as we talk about the brownies, my hatred for them is surpassed for the ratbirds. It is just this feeling I get when I see those stupid purple uni's. A new, very orange one is on the way I believe.they must have changed the default skin, because I've never changed skins here...............and yeah TDB a very orange one will be MUCH better !!If I knew how to somehow change ALL black to brown on my screen, it would feel like HOME ....... btw, you guys have more diverse smileys than anywhere I have seen ...........very cool !! The truth is they'll begin to be noticed again in large numbers because they can proudly were their Cincinnati Jerseys, Hats, T-shirts, etc without fear of endless ridicule. I don't care who your favorite team is, if their stinking up the league as say the Packers are, then you're going to hear some freakin' snickers on Monday at work walking around with your Farve Jersey on. Now multiply that by 14 years (since the Bengals won a playoff berth) and you can get kind of an insight on the intestinal fortitude it takes to be a Bengals fan. A couple years ago a drunken (is there any other kind?) Cowboy fan out here in Arizona saw me wearing my always present on football Sundays Bengals cap, and had to make a scene about it as he hooted, laughed, and hollered loudly about the "Bungles" cap and then called me "some kind of a masochist" for sticking with the Bengals after all these years. Then his flips to "nice guy cowboy fan" claiming he could "Feel My Pain" because the plowboys were having an "off-year" too. I sorta chuckled along with it, and began to turn towards him saying in a normal tone that just by looking at him, the way his body language spoke, it was obvious he didn't feel hardly any of it like I did. He looked at me with a puzzled expression and began to laugh as he rolled his eyes skyward as if to say "Oh Brother...", which was convienient for me because now he couldn't see the kick which was well on it way to his unprotected nutsack. In less than 1 second his "puzzled" facial expression with laughs was replaced instantaneously by "pretty damn painful" and gasps, as he lay curled up on the floor cupping is groin and trying to breathe. But from that moment on, even as I snatched my car keys off the bar and double timed it out the door, I fully believed his words about actually feeling my pain. Isn't it refreshing when you meet a eventually truthful person? Now why my leg just up and kick him in the 'nads like that without my knowlege has me wearing my own puzzled expression. *I will also let you all know that it seems in Arizona that kicking an obnoxious, loudmouthed, Dallas Cowboy fan as hard as you can square in the balls is not enough to warrant being permanently "86'ed out of that establishment by it's Arizona Cardinals fan owner! Strangely it comes with the perks of notariety among the clientel and the occasional free drink bought for you by another Cowboy hating patron who just heard the tale.but the real question is: are they really that good ?No. They're BETTER! So many, most, new coaches go bust, but Romeo has those guys playing pretty well right out of the gate. Things are looking up for Cleveland a lot sooner than I though they would.
