Palmer's Development

Personally, I feel that this may be Palmer's most impressive performance as a Bengal. No, his numbers weren't stellar. Less than 200 yards is hardly spectacular. Still...he showed me today that he's capable of doing the one thing that's been worrying me all this time. He can hold onto the ball. He played a safe, smart, but effective game.

3TDs and 0 INTs.

Very impressive, indeed. B)

100% agree. I have long believed that "how much do you f**k up?" is the biggest question that can be asked of an NFL QB. Palmer is not losing games for us this year. That he is often winning games...that's a plus...but he isn't losing them...and so far our defense is matching him.

Last time I checked, that's pretty much a playoff formula...:excited::cheers:

I just have to say that Carson Palmer is NOT everything I had hoped for in a #1 draft pick.

He's a lot MORE than I could have ever hoped for!! God has finally smiled down upon us. We may have suffered for so long for a reason Bengal fans. It was preparation. It's going to be really good for Cincinnati for many years to come!

Completely agree with bobcat...not sure what more people want him to do.

16 for 23 and 3 TDs with no picks in a driving rain on the road against one of the NFL's best defenses...

I guess for it to be his BEST game it had to be 23 for 23?

Just curious.

Well, it depends on the numbers you use. QB Rating = 128.8 today. Previous QB ratings were 107 and 108. Yes, there were fewer attempts and yards, but with all the turnovers we didn't need Carson to win the game all by himself.

The Bears have a good defense, passing on them isn't easy. Palmer didn't get lots of numbers, but you can't argue with 3 TDs, right? This was his first real challenge, since Cleveland and Minnesota's secondaries aren't so good (or at least, they weren't when they played us).

My dad always said that Palmer taking lots of time to learn was a good thing, since it takes him a while to get into a system, but once he did, it'd be good. That's what had happened at USC. Or so he tells me, anyway, I never payed any attention to it. ^.^

Sounds like your Dad is a Bengals fan too.

Maybe you should drag him in the BengalsZone when you get a chance.

I agree, that this was Carson's best game yet. To complete very near 70 percent of his passes, and throw three touchdowns against a Bears defense that had previously given up squat, is phenomenal. All game long, he made one questionable throw, the interception dropped by Mike Brown (feels so weird to type that!). Even on that play, his receiver was a little out of position, and Brown was playing some perfect coverage.

Next week, Carson faces the lowly Texans, but they do have a semi-respectable secondary including Dunta Robinson. I expect him to shred them as well, however, and cement his place among the top 7 or better quarterbacks in this league. If he continues to play at this level, then he is a top 3 quarterback.

Pro bowl in his second year as starter? If the votes were held today, he would start it.

B) Really liked the 0 int's ............ Also liked the response to the Bears touchdown. Bengals cranked it up as the situation called for. Lastly .... liked the 3 knees at the Bears 3 yard line. The point was proven, and nothing was to be gained by rubbing their noses in it. :sure::cheers:

Now if it's divisional ... you call a time out and kick a field goal .... ala Wyche! :pokey:

Palmer has picked up right where he left off from last year after a crusty pre-season.

His development has been methodical but nonetheless stellar. There's no question he's in command on the field and has done real well so far this year in switching plays at the line based on what he sees, as well as distributing the ball to his bounty of receivers.

He took a few licks today, too. And is no less for wear.

Every game will bring miscues, but he had very few today. The dropped INT by Mike Brown in the end zone was pretty much the same pass he threw last week that was intercepted. The fewer picks he throws in the red zone, the better as the season moves forward.

Palmer is going to be great, I guarantee you that 5 years from now people will be talking about him in the same breath as Montana, Marino, and Elway. His progression is going great. The est thing that he's done so far is NOT throw interceptions. Keeping turnovers to a minimum is one of the most important thigs in football.
