walshfan
I watched the game in its entirerty.. decent game..outcome about what I expected.Collins was pressured for much of the night..combination of a good rush by Pats and offensive line breakdowns..Jordan is going to have a good year for the Raiders..reminds me of Rudi a little..Raiders secondary is weak ......Brady is very collected ...he never panics and has a great presence out there..Pats receivers arent big names but they get open...Dillon was pretty much shut down tonite 23 carries 63 yards...they didnt need him what with Brady picking apart the secondary of Oakland..Ty Warren and Richard Seymour create havoc up front...BTWPats were +1 in turnovers ( allways a factor)Raiders were penalized 16 times for 149 yards!!!! Pats 4 for 40 Pats are definately going to make a run again......
John Stofa
I thought it was a good game. I predicted the Pats would cover the spread and they did, so I'm undefeated on the season so far ... lol. The Raiders looked like the same old Raiders penalty-wise and anyone who has written off the Patriots because of their personnel and coaching staff losses might want to rethink their stance. DontPushMe
Dillon was pretty much shut down tonite 23 carries 63 yards...they didnt need him what with Brady picking apart the secondary of Oakland.. 93 yards and 2 tds = shut down? Tough crowd.Running up the middle is going to be hard against the raiders, when you have Sapp and Ted Washington on the d-line, and converted DLmen at linebacker, your going to stop the run. Their games will be like this defensively all year probly. But like all greats do, Dillon found a way to get it done, and won the game. His ineffectiveness running the ball stalled a number of drives, and there was a point at the end of the first quarter (I believe) when Brady was getting in his face. His catches helped, but in the first half, everybody was catching the ball. They needed somebody to pick up the tough yards, and Dillon didn't. Less than 3 per carry won't cut it.I could see it being hard to run up the gut for the reasons you mention, but the big problem is that defenders were flat out beating him to the corner before he could turn upfield. Maybe somebody's lost a step? And Dillon didn't find a way to get it done. The rest of his team did.
HoosierCat
My first thought was, thank gawd, football is back.My second thought was, geezus k-rist, just when I thought the league couldn't put out a more embarassing, overblown, cringe-inducing show than the SB halftime show...they go and prove me wrong. By the time the Pats came running out through their "big helmet" with Ozzy on top lip-syncing (badly) Crazy Train, all I could think was that I hope the Pats lose every game for the rest of their franchise's existence. As for the game...I thought the Raiders looked improved on defense, tho their secondary leaves a lot to be desired. Randy Moss did his thing, incredible juggling catch, but Kerry Collins showed why he wont make as much of a difference as some hope. Lamont Jordan was servicable in his debut as a starter, but I don't think he impressed; I was more taken with his backup, the kid with the dreads. Raiders' d-line looks good, o-line sucks. Overall, they looked like a .500-ish team.As for the Pats, Brady and his receivers looked tight, as usual. He had all time to throw in the first half. Dilllon was absolutely shut down in the first half (like 6 yards) and I must admit I loved to see him fail on that 4th down conversion attempt. He wasn't, and still isn't, a goal line/4th and inches back. Pats D looked OK but was hard to tell. They had their safties back all the time in anti-Moss mode and the Raiders never really adjusted their game to take advantage of that. Still, the Pats didn't do anything last night to say they weren't going to contend again this year.
DC_Bengals_Fan
Abut Kerry Collins showed why he wont make as much of a difference as some hope. Was it the constantly throwing off his back foot, holding the ball for years, missing wide open receivers, or the happy feet in the pocket that convinced you of this? Oh please. If a certain running back who replaced him averaged a mere 2.7 a carry against one of the worst defenses in the league, you'd be in here crowing about it.You know it,I know it,and everbody else here knows it. Stripes
Chad's spot atop the AFC is in real jeapordy. Moss opened the year with a huge game, and we all know Chad will want to keep pace. All the more reason to expect big numbers from him come Sunday?Let's hope! :player:

kitared
Well I think we did a pretty good job last night. Many thought it would be a blow out, I don't consider it to be that. Our pass rush needs MUCH improvement, but keeping a guy like CD to 63 yards rushing says a lot for a team that went 5-11 last year. Our penalties, the TO cost us a lot, without those we could have had a different outcome. Can't wait to till the Home Opener next week against Ks**tty! Moss had his huge game to increase the expectations on his shoulders, y'all musta loved that. You may have won the game if Collins had played more consistently, and Mr. First Round Kicker hadn't missed an easy one.No matter, the Silver and Black certainly look a force to be reckoned with once again. ShulaSteakhouse
Dillon's just what he always is, a great back who has no burst or power unless he's got a head of steam in space. He ditched the power running style years ago and has compensated with instincts and straight ahead speed ever since.Guys who hang around a long time just run smart like he does. The problem with Dillon is he when he doesn't get what he wants during a play, he gives up quickly, and if it happens too often, he pouts. Belichick should learn not to give him the ball on 3rd or 4th and 1, or at the goal line. The Pats are the best situation in the NFL to be in as a RB and Dillon is just riding the wave with what he has left. Warrick would do well up there also and it's a shame the Pats didn't get him instead of the Seahags, where he's fifth on the depth chart for now.If there's one thing I liked about Warrick, it's that he could get open consistently like Branch and Givens do, and they catch everything. No drive killing drops like Chad and TJ are prone to at times. Warrick was a great safety valve, hopefully Walter can fill that role, not sure Washington is the answer in that area. schweinhart
I was extremely impressed by Pats TE Ben Watson. He looks even better than Graham. Also, Raiders ILB Kirk Morrison already looks like the heart of the front 7 of their D.The Pats D gave up too many big plays. How they let Tyrone Pool cover Moss 1-on-1 down the sideline on the long TD is beyond me. Rodney Harrison was so far away from the play to start with, he never had a prayer when Moss gave him a move after the catch.Dillon did what Dillon does. He toted the ball. It just so happened the holes weren't there for him to gain chunks of yards, but the 2 TDs were his reward for a night of working hard. The Pats easily made the adjustment for the lack of yardage from the running game vs. an atrocious Raider secondary. It was a good start for the Pats but their season will be prematurely grueling.
