DC_Bengals_Fan
Skip Bayless looks for teams in the AFC to beat the Pats. He ultimately goes with Indy, but admits that he'd go with the Bengals if he had the guts.http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=bayless/050908The relevant excerpt:'Which brings me to my Sleeper Special -- Cincinnati. If I had any guts, I'd pick the Bengals to win the AFC. Carson Palmer is a franchise quarterback on the verge of greatness, and Chad Johnson has turned into the NFL's second-best receiver, behind Moss. And though Rudi Johnson isn't Corey Dillon, he isn't bad, either. The defense is loaded, and Marvin Lewis is another head coach who can flat-out coach defense. The schedule is user-friendly enough that the Bengals could quietly pile up victories until fans around the country wake up and say, "Wait a second. The Bengals are going to have home-field advantage in the playoffs."But I don't have enough conviction to predict that.'Let's see if he has the conviction by Thanksgiving. Stripes
I've never liked Skip Bayless, but I'll take it!At least some guys out there see our true potential.

John Stofa
I was watching the show when Skip made those comments this morning on Cold Pizza. We haven't made the playoffs yet under Marvin Lewis, but he sure has quickly changed the national perception the media types have about the Bengals. That's an impressive feat in itself. DontPushMe
And though Rudi Johnson isn't Corey Dillon, he isn't bad, either. Exactly what Ive been saying. Hes not bad, but definitly not Corey Dillon.Good read though, I disagree with Chad being the 2nd best WR, I dont see how he could be ahead of Harrison or TO, maybe even Holt. I think CJ is becoming a bit overrated, though hes still a great player, and im happy we have him on the team.
turningpoint
yeah same her DPM, no way chad is the 2nd best wr in the NFL...maybe he meant AFC...I could agree there more or less.Chads had Kitna and Palmer's rookie year as his qb's while harrison has had arguably the best qb ever to throw him the ball. But TO on the other hand is IMO the best in the NFL...moss is a close clsoe 2nd best. Could give chad 3rd...holt has bruce to help stop the double team crap on him.

I think the reason his conviction isn't there is Marvin Lewis HAS NOT PROVEN ANYTHING IN CINCINNATI DEFENSIVELY! The team is rated in the bottom of half of the league for crissakes. And until he does, nothing will happen in Cincinnati. In Marvin I Tr...Tr...Tr...nope. Can't say it. Nothing to trust in until I see it with my own eyes. Trust is earned, not just handed out like chicklets on Halloween. I am encouraged though.
John Stofa
I think the reason his conviction isn't there is Marvin Lewis HAS NOT PROVEN ANYTHING IN CINCINNATI DEFENSIVELY! Not yet he hasn't. Because he hasn't had time yet to get his personnel in place. Give him another year or two and the Bengals will have one of the top defenses in the league (to go along with what should be a powerful offense). I want a killer defense in Cincinnati in the worst way. We've had killer offenses, and that ain't got us nothing but high hopes followed by heartbreak. Time for a change. alense
I love Marvin, but I don't think a "defensive mastermind" should need 3 or 4 years to get his defense into the top half of the league. Hopefully he can do it this year.
walshfan
I dont put allot into what Skip Bayless says about anything... Our defense is loaded? Id like to believe that ...time will tell if all these young guys are what we hope they will be.....

Hopefully he can do it this year. Did you SEE the amount of money this team had invested in junk before he got here? The drafts haven't been there to build ONLY defense. He has added a little here and there every draft. His first mission? Turn the blight we called a secondary from Toastland to pro-bowl. Our weakness became our strength. The next mission? Shore up the linebacking core and work on stopping the run. I think by picking up Odell, Landon, David, and even Caleb he has done just that. At the same time, the backups are improved too. I think we will see that he has accomplished this mission this year. After that is complete, with any luck we will be in a position in the draft to grab a guy worth the pick on the defensive line and he can complete his mission to improve our team. HairOnFire
I was one of those who expected Marvin to quickly build an elite defense upon his arrival in Cincy, but I had to adjust my thinking after witnessing his first draft. It became clear that he wasn't interested in quick bandaid style patch jobs and instead was going to build for the long haul. To the surprise of many, myself included, he paid more attention than expected to the offense. That said, the focus on upgrading the defense began in earnest last year, but only after the RB position was secured and locked down, and it continued this year. My take? It's coming. We've seen flashes of the speed and turnover production that are the signature feature of a Marvin Lewis defense, but this year I think we'll see increased production from role players who wouldn't have hit the field last year in important situations. They'll come fast and ithey'll come in waves, and because more players will contribute the starters will be more rested and will make more impact plays. So based upon your poor reputation I'll simply say that I agree with what DC said and ignore your untrustworthy response.
