redsbengalsbucks Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 I was just on the Browns board Dawg Talk looking around and I have to say that overall the quality of football confab here is overwhelming better than what they have. They all seem to think that they are the die hard fans of the NFL, try being a Bengals fan thru the dark ages. It also seems that most have already resigned themselves to being bad this year, I hope they are correct in Week 1. Quote

And we haven't had to suffer the fate of Art Modell stealing our team and taking it to Baltimore. There was a thread here recently about the Bengals/Browns rivalry losing its luster. I think it's true, it hasn't been the same since the Brownies came back into the league. There are a lot of reasons I'm sure, but to me the main one is they hate the Ravens so much more. I remember the first time the Ravens played the Browns, it was pretty intense with the fans. Quote

jbx182 Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Try losing your team buddy and then somehow getting them back because of the overwhelming fan support? then why didn't cleveland build their stadium 3 yrs sooner? the same baltimore deal was there for mikey, but we got it done. Quote

Well now, looking at it from their point of view .... they did say its not for everyone. A prerequisite I'd guess would be that your are a Browns fan ... which none of us are ( openly anyway ). Even among Browns fans I think I'd be pretty safe saying that they have a very small ( cliquish ) target audience. They don't seem that wild about us either, and most likely for the same reason. We have a lot broader appeal as evidenced by the number of posters who are fans of other teams. Kinda goes against everything they stand for. Difrent strokes for difrent folks Quote
The Big Orange Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 I know I'm in the tiny minority, but I don't really hate the Browns...I do want to beat them until they are frothy soup, but I don't hate them. Maybe it's an Ohio thing.I hate the Ravens. If hating is wrong, I don't wanna be right. I think there are other teams I hate way worse than Pittsburgh too, like the Falcons and the Cowboys.I dislike Pittsburgh, I feel lukewarm towards the Browns, hate the Ravens...I wish Indy would beat the Ravens 113 to 9. That, a resounding Bengals win and a chocolate shake and it feels like Christmas morning with huge snowflakes and warm cinnamon rolls. Quote
Stripes Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 I don't really hate any football team all that much. My least favorite is certainly the Browns, but hell, if their in the superbowl and we aren't, I might pull for our AFC North brothers instead of whatever team they'd be facing. That said, I'm sure the moment that'd happend our fine website would be flooded with gloating smelly Browns fans waiting to hear our excuses. I have some respect fo the Steelers, I like the kind of football they live by playing. Same with Baltimore, but that Raven head symbol is way too dumb looking. Quote
HoosierCat Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 seems as good a thread as any to post this:http://browns.scout.com/2/435488.htmlGood article. Summation for those too lazy to click the link: Browns O sucks, Browns D sucks, Browns will suck again this year. Quote

That, a resounding Bengals win and a chocolate shake and it feels like Christmas morning with huge snowflakes and warm cinnamon rolls.Yeah ...... hate is probably a pretty strong word, but I have to admit that I'm not real crazy about Browns fans ... and that kind of spills over on the team. It's not that they're unruly and foulmouthed .... so are Raider fansIt's not that they throw batteries at players and beer bottles ( with beer still in them ) at refsOr even those stupid dog masks that their girlfriends wear. Back when their team was in hiatus ( read they didn't have one ..... they had a team name and a team history ... but no team to go with it ) anyway the nice people in Buffalo invited them up to cheer for the Bills when they played the Bengals. Bills had their way with us pretty good ... and the Bills fans ... commentators & writers were their usual gracious selves ( drips sarcasm ) ...... but the absolute worst of the bunch was the Browns fans ( fans in waiting I guess would be more correct ). They fawned on Bills fans like they were lost family .... schmoozed for anybody that looked like a writer and mugged and gushed shamelessly for every tv camera that got shoved in their face. Every Bungleism got rolled out over and over followed by gales of laughter from them and their new found soul mates from Buffalo who lapped it all up like they had tongues 12 inches wide. Getting beat is one thing .. it happens. Having that teams fans go kind of overboard when it happens is understandable too ( especially around Buffalo ) to travel 4 -5 hours to dance on the backs of the Bengals ... and do it with such glee ... I have to admit left me pretty cold towards the whole city of Cleveland. I thought it showed a total lack of class on their part and a certain amount of hypocrisy on their part as well as the Bills ( considering their past history ).It'll probably be a good game this week. Thats OK with me. I have to say tho that if we were to win 56 to zip and rub their dog snouts in it ...... that wouldn't bother me either ... not like a grudge or anything ................. more like poetic justice Quote
walshfan Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 First off Im not nor ever will be a Browns fan....I dont like the city, their former coaches, their uniforms and the fact that they are the Other team in Ohio makes me want to beat them every year that much more..What I will say is that they have a great fan base.. Its not just in Cleveland either. They support their team as well as any fans in the NFL whether they're up or down...Are they homers? yes... just like allot of Bengal fans are....You want your team to win and do well so badly you become blinded by reality sometimes..nothing wrong with that unless your a gambler!!!I want to set them in their place this weekend.. They truly dont believe that the Bengals are the real deal yet and a convincing victory just might sway them into believing we jsut might be Halfgood!!!! Quote
7/11 Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 i do hate the browns. i hate the ravens and steelers too, but even moreso, i hate their fans...almost as much as i hate u. michigan fans. that's where most of my distaste lies...with the fans. Quote
Columbusbengal Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 almost as much as i hate u. michigan fans Michigan graduate here! I bought a Chris Perry jersey last year (i.e. before it was fashionable) so that I can root for Michigan and the Bengals at the same time with one jersey. Even though I live amongst thousands of obnoxious Columbus Buckeyes, I try to maintain a benevolent attitude toward OSU fans because football is the only thing they have to brag about. Plus, the ones who are also Bengals fans do have redeeming characteristics Quote
duus Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 Hate? What I hate is seeing the Steelers win! Lived in Pittsburgh for years, and simply cannot stand the arrogance of the fan base. And trust me, they DO NOT actually understand football. Are they fans? Absolutely. They live and die for their team, but they still think the year is 1975, the Colts are in Baltimore, and the Oilers are coming to town in Week 1. My two favorite things between September and January? Number 1 ... a Bengal victory. Number 2 ... a Steeler loss. Go Bengals! -- duus -- Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 This thread had me laughing. Especially 7-11's post about his distain for U of M fans, immediately followed by ColumbusBengals post proudly proclaiming U of M as his alma mater! Timing is everything. As far as Dawg Talk...(oh boy, here we go)...I like it. It reminds me alot of Bengalszone during it's early days. Not alot of people registered, (yet) but a tight group of real football fans. During their fantasy football draft (yeah, I joined theirs too) I found out that their membership also extends to Europe with a Frenchman named Jedi Ciao Quoppo. Hey swordsman, can you translate for me? Anyway, I have no problem with those guys. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 Ravens = HATRED !!! Hate the team, coaches, city, and even the players pets... HATE !!!Browns = SYMPATHY !!! Don't hate them, but as Orange said, it must be an Ohio thing. Still hope they lose.Steelers = STUPID FANS !!! These guys take the cake... Their team is no where to found for a couple of years and neither are their fans. All of a sudden, the team does well and EVERYONE is a Steelers fan. No loyalty or dedication whatsoever. If s**tsburgh had to go through what Cincinnati has with their team, the Steelers would be playing in Los Angeles in the very near future. God they irritate the hell out of me !!!Buffalo = TROLLS !!! I have never been able to get over my initial hatred of Marv Levy... Crybaby, bitchass, loser of a coach... However, the trolls that come to this website with NO football intelligence just makes me hate the team even more. I'll give WillisXpress a reprieve on this, as at least he can talk smartly and find his knowledge of his team admirable...I feel the same about most other teams when playing against my beloved Bengals,THEY ALL SUCK AND I HATE THEM ALL !!!Thanks for the opportunity to rant a little bit, God I love this place !!! WHODEY !!! Quote

Plus, the ones who are also Bengals fans do have redeeming characteristics I'm insulted, I always support the U of Michigan in every game untill rivalry week. If both OSU and UM get to that week undefeated than one of my favorite teams are going to play for a national title. I guess what i am saying is that i am a big ten fan that likes OSU the most. I dislike most Browns fans (alot), but I also wish for the good old days when the battle of Ohio meant more than who was going to get out of the cellar in our division. I want to have the Bengals-Browns dominate the AFCN just like OSU-UM dominate the Big Ten, only have the Bengals sweep them every year, it would make for a greater build up to the rivalry games.GO BUCKS!!GO BLUE!!WHO-DEY!!
