TJJackson Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 He's already on another roster - on a GOOD defense. from http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/index.php?sty=47431"EXTRA POINTS: As expected, the Cardinals did not stand pat with their roster Sunday, claiming a much-needed defensive tackle on waivers, Langston Moore. Moore, 6-1 and 303 pounds, will be nose tackle Russell Davis’ top backup. Moore, cut by Cincinnati, started eight games for the Bengals last season. "Don't worry though, we still have Askew, who has been reported healthy enough to walk to the bank to cash his check every week...... Quote

walshfan Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 Why do you think Marvin cut Langston Moore and kept Askew and Smith???I think we saw Langston's upside as an off tackle ..... he really wasnt a power tackle. Askew can handle the power tackle positions in case Robinson needs a breather...I think he started coming around from injury enough that Marvin feels he can put him in there and be productive.Smith just made the team because he played well..... Whur CHad At? Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 Its alright dude, the Bengal's brought in Cledtius Hunt from Green Bay today for a workout. He is a major improvement over Moore, even though I like Moore, Hunt is a better overall player. No offical word on if we signed him or not.bengals.comOne they just brought in to work out is defensive tackle Cletidus Hunt, a six-year veteran cut by the Packers, but the club made no announcement of signings Monday. As soon as Green Bay released Hunt, I hoped the Bengals would give him a shot. He'd be a very solid pickup if we can nail him, but who would he replace? Shaun Smith or Matthias Askew? Quote
TJJackson Posted September 6, 2005 Author Report Posted September 6, 2005 One would hope it'd be Askew.... Quote
bengalsLB Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 is hunt the one that held out and came in out of shape ... is he a good run stuffing DT Quote
John Stofa Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 I figured he'd be picked up quickly. I just don't see how we could let Moore go, while knowing we were going to be without Clemons for a few weeks. I'm still trying to figure that move out. Quote
skyline Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 One would hope it'd be Askew.... or one would hope not...Askew has a lot of upside. Here's hoping he toughens up and gets on the field. Quote

I agree. Askew could end up being a very good player if we stick with him, but I'm not sold on Smith. He played well in the preseason, but I need to see more. Quote
Columbusbengal Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 Don't worry though, we still have Askew, who has been reported healthy enough to walk to the bank to cash his check every week...... We were all complaining about Chris Perry last year (especially his being injured) and about TJ the year before. Marvin generally knows what players need an extra year or so and are worth waiting for when injured. Let's hope he's right about Askew, too. Quote
jjakq27 Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 I thought Moore played well after Tony Williams went down. In fact I think someone on this site mentioned last year that the run defense (yards per carry) got significantly better after Williams was out after the first six games.I hate to say it but this was not a "win now" move. Askew may have more upside or potential than Moore but he is still a big question mark.I think we are still rebuilding this team from the depths of 2002 and may be able to say the same thing next year as well with moves like this. CTBengalsFan Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 cuz I'm sure "TJJackson" from bengalszone.com knows more than Marvin and the rest of the coaching staff. You probably think Reggie Myles should be our starting SS too... Quote

Just giving my opinion, strongly held, strongly stated. You probably think Reggie Myles should be our starting SS too...Actually, and honestly, I have been worried that my main man's efforts to get more defensive snaps would cost us his dominating presence on special teams coverage units, and so I was hoping he'd remain a backup. That said, I think it'd be great if the Bengals defense would lay reggie-style licks into the other team's ball carrier on defense, BUT I don't want a letdown on special teams......which were special for the first time in a long time in 2004. IMO the reason the Bengals kept Askew is his tremendous size and outstanding quickness. [i wish he had Moore's heart and desire.] Several times in the last game I thought Askew was offsides. But, when I slowed the video down, he was getting off the ball faster than the offensive line for the Colts. He looked the quickest DL Ive seen in a long time.Askew may be something special -- IF he ever gets healthy enough to get on the field. Quote
HoosierCat Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 our newest DT...PRACTICE SQUAD FILLED: The Bengals today signed rookie DT Lynn McGruder of Oklahoma to the practice squad. McGruder (6-2, 302) signed April 26 with Tampa Bay as a college free agent. He played in three preseason games for the Bucs, was waived, and played in one preseason game for Indianapolis before being waived Monday by the Colts. Quote
volcom69 Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 I wonder if this means no more Hunt. I still would like a big DT with some experience, thats why i would have liked Hunt or maybe even Gilbert Brown now thats a big man to clog the holes. Quote

schweinhart Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 The Bengals are better off w/o Langston Moore. He played too high too often, his bullrush petered out, and he got moved laterally too easily at the line vs. the run.No question about his heart and desire, but his skills were limited and its showed.Shaun Smith is just the opposite: an underachiever whose physical abilities are obvious. But he's looked like he's mentally ready to have a solid season. We'll see about Askew. He'll most likely have to do something this year, especially while Big Duane is out. Askew's pre-season was much better any ways than last year. Quote
