turningpoint Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 since iwas probably well maybe the only one that actually saw the game live. here's my thoughts on it.Carter warley DO NOT CUT HIM!!! kickoff specialist is all him...he booted 2 into the endzone on the fly, and 2 more inside the 5.....i've never seen graham boot one inside the 8. his fg was very shaky looking,he just cut the left upright....so shane is still a huge need, andwould never recommend replacing him he's priceless.Man did odell lay the smack down on that RB, i mean he flat out lit him up....thus forcing the simple fumble. I see him shining this year in the heart of the d, it will be quite nice seeing him over hardy.Ohalete looked great out there, he seemed to be all over the place in coverage, while kasevaharn just looked like he was always a step behind, why wilkins beat us for that long pass play, there only decent looking play of the night.Koistra will make the team, but i think the only sack on the night was all him, i mean he just got flat out beat, i don;t think he even touched the dt, and that's not good for playing against, a back up and at GAURD!Anyways manning made me laugh when he purpously ran off the field, at the half, with a cup of gatorade in his hand, like he really needed any, and the fact that he was holding it funny to show off the logo, makes me wonder how much he gets paid to do that.Anyways we looked great tonight, would like to see ohalete starting by week 4, and BTW madieu will make the probowl, that guy can play football, he was all over the place.Henry looked great should be the #3 wr by week 10, had some great catches....not to mention drew DPI 2x...that will be quite nice if he can do that for us, not that we need penalties to move the ball.Crenzel got a huge ovation from the crowd when introduced into the game, i was silent cause i believe bramlet is the better QB, and i'm not an OSU fan.sometimes ican hardly tell the difference between J smith, and D pollack....kinda makes me laugh.Kevin walters made another great catch, and left the game early with an injury i really hope he makes the team again....i'm pretty sure he will.Matthias askew i think will be cut, but gave it a decent effort when he was in there almost got a safety.Brandon Williams made a great great special teams play on a punt return....he should be the other gunner with myles on the left side.He also got screwed on the DPI call on him, the receive looked like he was trying to rape him running., not to mention grabbed brandons facemask, and twisted....f**king #11 of the colts i hated him.O btw i was thinking on my way out...the colts #2 are sort of comparable to the browns #1's right? Anyways WHODEY! :player: Quote
PhunkE1 Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 Thanks for the update turningpoint. CHenry looks like he's going to be the real deal. I'm also starting to wonder how long we're going to be able to keep CPerry off the field. He's looked unreal this preseason. Rudi should stay fresh all year with Perry spelling him on 3rd downs and a series or two a game. Quote
turningpoint Posted September 3, 2005 Author Report Posted September 3, 2005 pretty much while i have always thought Kenny watson is now useless, and quincy wilson deserves a spot on this team. Quote

JohnsonX5 Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 Just to add a few things after watching most of the tape delayed game.Madieau Williams - Thank the lord he is back and playing. He absolutely lit up one of the Colts receivers just as the ball got there, causing an incomplete pass. And I guess I kind of forgot how much energy he brings to the defense, celebrating with other guys after big defensive plays even if he wasn't the one to make them. Does this guy enjoy playing the game of football or what? I don't think there was a single moment the camera was on this guy and he wasn't smiling from ear to ear. Welcome back.If there's one thing that even the most pessimistic of Bengals fans can take from this preseason, it's that Thurman and Perry are very, very good football players. They showed it again last night.Pollack - I'm still waiting for him to do something to impress me, but then again, I guess that it's only his second game and I'm sure my feelings will change come the regular season.Sixth receiver spot - Tab Perry didn't really do anything to help himself last night, but then again, neither did Broussard or Russell. I have no clue which one of these guys makes the team.Fanene made one nice play last night that I recall and, from what little I've seen of him, I've liked him. I really hope he makes it to the practice squad if Marvin doesn't feel he's worth a roster spot. Brandon Williams, as already mentioned, looked good on special teams and had perfect coverage on the DPI call that was total bull. I think he made the team last night. Bauman also looked pretty solid, imo. Quote

rizzy Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 I was at the game and wow I can not wait untill this sunday. I think they are going to run over cleveland. This is just what they needed going into that game.Side note: I was right behind the Colts bench on the 40 yard line. Marvin Harrison is one of my favorite football players now. He was cracking me up. He was interacting with the crowd by us, he was playing jokes on the sideline the whole game. He is a good guy. Quote

OK.On the road at Pittsburgh, the Bengals are up 17-14,and drive deep into Pittsburgh territory.Watson fumbles the ball at about the 23,Pittsburgh recovers and goes on to win 28-17. Quote

I saw that too. He was also waving to some Colts fans in the endzone which is unusual. Most guys look down or don't acknowledge the fans as they exit the field. I tried to get him to come over and high-five me so I could tell him he was my favorite (just like the commercial) but he breezed on by us.Marvin Harrison lobbed a football to a guy about 6 rows back that had his jersey on. That was a pretty cool thing to do also. Quote

HoosierCat Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 On a related note, a big round of applause for everyone who went to the game and kicked in for Hurricane Katrina relief. Donations totaled about $62,000. Great job! Quote
bengalskyspy Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 I was there. Here are my thoughts:1)Madeau is a difference maker2)Odell is a all over the place and hits like a mack truck 3)Pollack is quick but still looks a little tentative4)Our starting corners are so much better than 2 years ago5)I am talking about the defense a lot more than I could have imagined6)Oh and by the way Ohalete looks like a keeper and a leader. He was getting our guys lined up and he's only been here a few days7)Chris Perry... love watchin the dude. YAC was awesome last nite8)Chris Henry should called the Quiet Assasin 9)Chad is as good as Chad says he is.10)The offense was had the snap, crackle, and pop we've been waiting for. Quote

derekshank Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 Ohalete looked great out there, he seemed to be all over the place in coverage, while kasevaharn just looked like he was always a step behind, why wilkins beat us for that long pass play, there only decent looking play of the night. 6)Oh and by the way Ohalete looks like a keeper and a leader. He was getting our guys lined up and he's only been here a few daysI really hope we are not over-rating this guy. He was good in run coverage... (again, against 2nd and 3rd stringers). But in the fourth quarter I saw him give up a 40 yard reception from Arth to Utecht. You can't let 3rd stringers get behind you like that. I would have hated to see that be Manning to Harrison or Wayne.Maybe he'll get it corrected... but I think his coverage skills are wanting, and that is exactly what we need from the SS position right now. Someone to be there when Deltha gambles. I'm really worried about SS right now. I'm okay with the D-line... it seems serviceable. Our linebackers... young, but fast and hungry, and Simmons is productive. CB's are decent, and Madieu is great... but that one position could give up VERY big plays, and hurt us very badly. I very much doubt that the run support from SS is going to make up for the 40 and 50 yard TD passes we are going to see on a fairly regular basis, as teams exploit our biggest weakness. Hopefully I'm wrong... but I have read disparaging remarks about Ohalete's coverage skills. Not a good situation right now. Quote

Well, I guess after we all watched Kim Herring get torched a week ago, that the bar for "coverage skills" at SS on this team has been set rather low. Given that, if we are going to be weak at that spot in terms of "coverage", I would rather have a guy back there who can put running backs and tight ends to the ground with some violent intent. Especially given our division. Quote
jjakq27 Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 At this point I will take a SS that can tackle Bettis and Jamal Lewis for less than 5 yards a crack. Quote

Especially given our division. From what I've seen, I'll definitely take Ohalate over Mitchell. No question. But still, is it absolutely impossible to get a SS who help at all in coverage? I can't count how many times I've seen our safeties chasing a receiver from behind after blown coverage. And I believe that largely defeats the very point of being a "safety."I think our SS issues have surpassed run stopping as the biggest problem on the team. Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 Okay, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but the saftey position is primarily a pass defense position, is it not? Sure, I mean if they can come up and stop a runner for no gain from time to time, then by all means stick 'em! Just as a lineman might tip a pass at the line of scrimmage to himself for an interception, the opportunity shouldn't be passed, but I don't want my safeties being depended on for stopping the run. Last time I checked that was the down linemans and linebackers jobs, and if it now fallen to the last line of defenders, which is really what the "saftey" is all about, then somebody is f**kin' up BIG TIME up in front of him!Sounds to me the reason they're getting beat deep is because they're cheating up towards the line playing the run first instead of playing their position! Dammit! If we wanted you to play (deep) linebacker, we'd call it that, give you a different set of pads, and have you put on another 25 pounds! Play your position. Isn't that what our "Defensive Guru" head coach Marvin Lewis always saying? DO YOUR JOB! Quote
