schnarfer Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 We did make a ton of mental mistakes last night but we can not forget that Philly was in the superbowl last year and is the favorite to win it this year. They played their first team for the first half and they looked like a superbowl caliber team...It is hard to judge because that is the best team we will face all year and it was in preseason..We held our own in the past 2 games and we are not even gam planning yet....We have the talent all around us, all we have to do is get in rhythm and begin to play with consistantcy...We will see Philly again in Detroit in February... MacD BengalFan Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 I have never seen so many people start writing off the season after one bad PRE-SEASON game! That is all it is. One bad pre-season game. It does not have any effect on the regular season. None. Every team will experience one or two bad games during the pre-season as well as the regular season, how the team responds the following week will tell what kind of character it has. If the Bengals come out and shows improvement, then they responded to the beating and learned from the mistakes. But if they fall flat again, then maybe there is something going on. I do not expect the Bengals to struggle next week as Marvin will not have it happen. I think they will play better next week in preparation for the start of the regular season. That is when it counts. Quote

So we likely won't get a good read on how they respond to Friday's bungle until week 1 in Cleveland. Still, yes, it would certainly be soothing to see them come out and put seven on the board on the opening drive. Quote

Still, yes, it would certainly be soothing to see them come out and put seven on the board on the opening drive. For the first time this preseason, we won't be facing a good defense. A look at the regular season schedule shows we won't be playing too many big name defenses (outside of the division), and this game may be a better measuring stick than the previous three have been (or maybe I'm making lame excuses for three bad games). If the offense continues to struggle whenever the starters are playing, then I may start to worry a bit. The defense will certainly have a lot on it's hands. Quote
