DontPushMe
He was drafted 1st for a reason! This guy is amazing on the feild.Me personally I think he will be starting around week 5 or 6. I think RJ gets a few courtesy weeks, but after a few weak games, the bengals decide to go another direction, and Perry takes over.
redsbengalsbucks
I hope they will not go the way of KC and Preist Holmes and make Perry the starter. I have always preferred to have a bruiser as the starter and if you have the change of pace use him in the correct plays. Dont get me wrong I think Perry might be able to be the starter I just dont prefer him over RJ.
HairOnFire
Hasn't this already been decided? I thought you made Perry the starter last week based upon his 3.6 yard per carry average?

The_Next_Big_Thing
That's the nice thing about having both Rudi Johnson, who can power his way through most lines, and Chris Perry, who apparently can shift his way around other lines on the same roster. If we go up against a defense that handles the up the gut, power running game well, we can take Rudi out and give Chris Perry some carries to see if his receiving out of the backfield or shifty moves can get it done for a while. Then, when the defense begins to tire of chasing him down, we can throw Rudi back in and let him pound the line and keep his legs moving.
jditty47
didnt i tell u all of last year that rudi has some great runs but he also does not hit the hole like he should...hence the 10 yd loss carry today. who knows if perry will start...i like the fact that they are both different and we should use both alot. DontTakeAkili
Wasn't this the plan for LAST year? Start Rudi, let Perry show enough that we would be comfortable allowing Rudi to leave via free agency, and use his cap money to shore up the run defense.Funny thing happened on the way to the bank...Now we have a problem - two backs that are both capable (if healthy) to start. The problem is that they are both taking up valuable cap space. It's a GREAT problem to have for now, but it is a problem. There is no such thing as an embarassment of riches in the NFL. Parity breeds deficiencies. If you are strong in one area, you're weak in another. My guess is that the Bengals will find a way to unload Rudi after this year, if Perry stays healthy. That's not my suggestion, just my guess.

Next says he managed to improve his yards per carry average to 3.8 this week....still far below the standard that you spent an entire offseason claiming wasn't good enough. Don't get me wrong, I like some of the things he does very much. I also like the fact that you couldn't start this thread without including the qualifier "barring injury" in the thread title. It shows you're capable of learning something.
ShulaSteakhouse
Perry so far has been just a little more consistent than Watson. When Perry breaks Dillon's rushing record then you can start this stupid, tired thread and it will hold some sort of significance. For now it's just stupid and getting old and tired. UK Bengal
get this into your stupid thick head DPM perry will not replace rudi on their own they are diff backs and dangerous together they show diff things to a defence which is essential for a solid ground game something the bengals do well ie brooks and woods so take you leon loving ass to new england and follow him out of cincinnati like you so obviously want too. The Big Orange
Having counseled a few teenage lunatics in my 13 years of ministry, (though I am not a shrink) I have met some interesting characters over the years. If I was counseling Pushy and had all of his posts as a basis for what is going on inside of him, I would state these top 10 may be making Pushy to make him post this way...10. Pushy grew up loving seeing the likes of Barry Sanders (and others) whom it is a beautiful thing to make guys miss and he would love to see someone like that in stripes.9. Having a team that is lousy in so many different ways except running back made him exceptionally loyal to Corey, who was an amazing bright spot in spite of being the focus for opposing defenses for a long time.8. Pushy is either fat like me or is fast or used to be fast and appreciates someone who can just outrun the other boys. Not being Rudi's strength, since he is more of a brusier, Pushy takes offense.7. Pushy is from Switzerland originally and abhors the violence which a battering ram like Rudi brings to the table.6. Pushy is addicted to the screen pass.5. Pushy watched the movie "Rudy" and the guy's face reminded him of a really mean bully who made his 3rd grade year a nightmare and hearing that voice over and over in his sleep made him wet the bed until he was a senior.4. Pushy is appaled at the drafting job and just sees getting more value out of a 4th round pick.3. Having being visited on a couple of occassions by aliens and all their mysterious probing tricks, Pushy is ever reminded of "his friends in the sky who rudely visited him" and space flight in general by looking at Rudi's numbers...3...2...the next number is 1 and then the rocket lifts off and he's back in the arms of Mister Crazy Fingers.2. Pushy is alone and nobody to talk to...kinda like the rest of us sorry saps, and this topic always brings talkers to the table who pay close attention to him.1. Pushy genuinely believes that Rudi is not the best back for this team whom he loves. He wants to see the Who-Deythians hoist the trophy as much as any of us, just has a hard time seeing it being done in a running division with (in his opinion) a mediocre back.Of course, number 1 is the real answer, and I actually I admire someone who sticks to their guns. Of course, if Rudi has a couple of really good games and Pushy doesn't at least give him his props, then that admiration will wear off rather quickly. rizzy
The best thing about Perry looking good out there is it is going to make Rudi step his game up. If he doesn't then Perry will become the starter. I really don't think Rudi wants Perry to take over the starting job. All I know is we are going to have one hell of a running game with those two pushing each other to whole new levels. Can't wait to see how they both look next Friday. KiLBurn
I think that Rudi pounding it up the middle helps set up Perry to come in and run away from people. Here is an analogy for those that continue to think that we can't use both.If someone kept trying to punch you in the face, you would probably concentrate on protecting your face, leaving yourself wide open to a swift kick in the nuts. The same would hold true if done in reverse. Bobcat Bengal
I thought it was pretty funny when the announcers suggested the Bengals trade Perry. What game were YOU watching? Then again, I'm here in Dayton, listening to Munoz and the white dude. One things for sure, Perry's hernia is no longer an issue.Did you see the way he cut back and juked to the left and left that Redskin flying through the air? LOL Looked like some ol NFL Blitz tackle. That kid is slick.
HoosierCat
I thought it was pretty funny when the announcers suggested the Bengals trade Perry. I thought it was pretty funny when Lapham related that he'd been standing on the sideline next to Marvin watching the Bengals practice and remarked, "Chris Perry is looking pretty good."Marvin's response? "Well, we took him in the first round" in, Lap said, that what-do-you-think-we-are-a-bunch-of-f***ing-idiots-who-can't-evaluate-talent voice.Upon which Lap said he quickly backtracked with, "No, no, no coach, I didn't mean that, I'm just saying he looks good." bengalboomer7
Everyone gts to tell what they think, so here's what I think1. I think it's possible to enjoy screwing with people and some people base their whole lives on it2. I think we have had enough of these threads already3. I think DPM has homosexual tendencies4. I think a woodchuck could chuck a lot of wood if a wooodchuck could chuck wood5. I think Spain has the most enjoyable posts6. i think it's ten in the moring and I'm at work and I can just feel the booze coming out of my pores. In fact, I'm a little dizzy right now. That's OK, hair of the dog that bit ya 7. I think Big O is too nice and someone needs to smack some mean in him 8 I think Wheaties is really the breakfast of Champions, really9. I think I could keep on doing this, but I'd rather browse the other threads for some intelligent Bengals conversation

AMC
Its not who's starting that matters ...its who gets the carries at crunch time....i.e. Rudi...Perry will take the load off rudi and be great on third down, but Rudi is the man you want at the end...
