HoosierCat Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 latest update from butch...Closing in the rain: Closing on Pollack? 8-16-05, 7 p.m. BY GEOFF HOBSONGEORGETOWN, Ky. _ And on the 19th day, it finally rained. But there looked to be some sunshine in the David Pollack negotiations. There were indications Tuesday evening that talks had heated up and there was hope that Pollack would arrive soon enough to board Thursday's plane to Washington, but there was no announcement of a deal as the Bengals began to pack up training camp. Not much, but FWIW... BengalBax Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 He's useless at this point. Who cares? Quote
HoosierCat Posted August 17, 2005 Author Report Posted August 17, 2005 He's useless at this point. Who cares? Ah, Bax. A ray of sunshine, as always.Actually, there's what, three weeks before the first real game? And IIRC Marvin was quite emphatic about how far Pollack along was during minicamps. If he got in in the next few days I think he'd find plenty of work as a situational pass rusher, swapping in and out with Landon, but early to mid September at latest. Beyond that...if he's as advertised...he could be starting by Thanksgiving. Quote
HairOnFire Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 And peace and harmony shall return to Bengala. For whatever it might be worth Tom Jackson, a guy who knows a little something about playing LB, said yesterday that serious harm would be done to Pollacks rookie season if he didn't sign by next week. I'd like to have heard him say more on that subject and it seemed like he wanted to explain further, but Micheal Irvin started yammering about how a player has to get paid...prompting Jackson to curl into a fetal position. I've never understood that reaction myself. When Irvin starts yapping, I always feel the urge to grab the nearest 2x4 and whack him upside the head...of course, I'd have to buy a new TV then... Quote
rcarpenter62 Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 ESPN football coverage is nearly unwatchable. Between Berman's tired antics to Irvin's yelling and screaming... I absolutely hate it. It is a shame b/c Tom Jackson does a fantastic job of analysis and giving a point of different point of view. Quote

Found one useful one through the miracle of Tivo and a Season Pass assignment to the program. NFL Live is still mercifully free of yelling and actually delivers just news and commentary. Quote
Spain Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Bengals bax is right, make an example of him he is useless at this point! Quote
cincyhokie Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 I'm not commenting on the rumor this time. I think I jinxed it last week. Quote
BlackJesus Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 In Marvin I trustIn Pollack I disgust Quote
Ox Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Again, everything works itself out in the end. When Pollack signs, the attitude will change in here yet again. I still think he's gonna have a huge impact this season. Quote
rizzy Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 As long as he preforms like he does for me in madden '06, he is still in my good book. Quote
lando griffin Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 hey rizzy, you spelled squirrel wrong, but i still like it... Quote
Kazkal Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 time for people to jump on pollacks sack GEORGETOWN, Ky. _ While the Bengals and agents for David Pollack appear to be in the final push of negotiations Tuesday night, they began to turn out the lights out at Georgetown College as the club prepared for one final practice here Wednesday morning. ShulaSteakhouse Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 hey rizzy, you spelled squirrel wrong, but i still like it... I agree, that's really annoying, please fix the spelling error, it makes one look kinda stupid. Quote

Spain Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 tne benagals site is reptorting that they finally might have the deal done! the rreal ? is , has he already blown his rookie season? Quote
BengalBax Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Wow, this question takes a lot of thought.Yes, he has blown his rookie season. As a LB Pollack has a LOT more to learn than a DE or DL for instance. Blitzes, coverages, schemes.....this guy has wasted his whole year and is an absolute jack@ss in my book. Quote
Spain Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Yep, pretty much so. He get some sacks because its no adjustment time. Quote
membengal Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 By the way, I had forgotten this, snippet is from the Post this morning:"This is the second straight year that Condon has represented one of the two last first-rounders to sign. Tight end Ben Watson, who like Pollack played at the University of Georgia, held out for 18 days from New England's camp last year before signing with the Patriots as the 32nd and final pick of 2004's first round.Condon didn't get to finalize Watson's deal. Watson fired Condon and replaced him with Pat Dye Jr. as the negotiations dragged."Well well well. Guess it kinda DOES run both ways in assigning blame, huh? Watson was at the tail end of the first round and Condon couldn't get him in either, and had to get fired before it was done. Hmmmm. What a saint Condon is. And a tool. Quote
walzav29 Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 I wish Bengals.com would only report when he signs. Not when he almost signs. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 The good thing is, we don't NEED Pollack to be a superstar this season. We NEED him to be a superstart NEXT season. He will still have all season to learn, and when the Bengals have to chose who to let go in 2006, we can afford to let Simmons go elsewhere if we have to. Quote

If Pollack does fire Condon, let's hope the comparisons betwen Pollack and Ben Watson end there. Watson played in 1 game before he was injured and lost for the season. Of course, the Pats weren't relying on Watson at TE as much as the Bengals are on Pollack. A 14-2 season and a Super Bowl proly softened whatever acrimony was stirred up by Watson's holdout anyway. Must be nice. Quote
