Brandon Williams got burnt badly, and won't be around long if he repeats his performance next week.

He didn't get burnt, he just fell down. And he made 5 tackles, knocked down 2 passes plus a potential INT. I thought he played very well.

He played well later in the game against the scrubs.

But they picked on him earlier in the game and he looked terrible at times.

Obviously a couple of more games will help, to see how he does.

As for the team as a whole I agree they looked sluggish and played poorly all-around. That was one ugly, boring game.

Not too worried yet as Palmer looks rusty as hell and the game plan was even more vanilla than last preseason.

I still don't know why they continue to throw that ultra-deep, underthrown bomb to CJ when he's double covered.

Sure he can get a step on the receiver 45 yards downfield but there's not many, if any, QB's who can make that throw accurately very often, if ever. It's just silly some times.

Let Palmer make some shorter throws and get him warmed up and into the game first before taking those stabs maybe, and wear down the defense first a little.

Perry and Rudi are going to be tough to stop - and that should eventually open up the passing game, the Pats were all over CJ and TJ last night and took that away almost completely.

It almost went without saying that the Bengals would go deep to Chad on their first play of the game, and I'm sure the Patriots realized this. It's the same old "were surrounded by hype, and were expecting big things, so lets start off the year with a bang" logic that many coaches allow themselves to fall for and it usually fails. I don't know if it was Brat's, Marvin's, or whoever's idea, but as soon as Lap said Palmer was going deep, I closed my eyes and waited to hear the words "incomplete" or "picked off."

Yeah, Brandon Williams definitely needs to tweak some things.

Not just the blown coverage on the stop and whiff for a TD, either. In the 2nd Q, he got used by a former TE twice for 1st downs, and pretty much just stood there watching the receiver catch the ball instead of trying to bust it up.

Pretty lax, IMO.

I have to respectfully disagree.I'm in section 335,and that play was right in front of me.

I know he slipped.

The question is,did the slip cause the play,or did maybe the play cause the slip?

I agree, even when Chad does gain a step or two, Carson consistently under throws him. Carson puts a lot of air under the ball and he either needs to throw it earlier or add distance. Many of Chad's great catches (esp. the one in the Pitt game last year) were due to poorly thrown balls.

I just finished watching the game on NFL Network.

1st: Nobody got hurt...That is the primary goal of all preseason games.

2nd: Guys preseason means NOTHING, We pulled Chad 3/4 though the first quarter, Rudi shortly thereafter Palmer 1/4 through the 2nd and when we finally pulled the rest of our starters we were up 6-3. They couldn't stop our running game at all until we started playing 2nd and 3rd string lines. Yeah Brady didn't play but the way we were running the ball with Rudi and Perry Brady wouldn't have gotten the ball much anyway in a real game. They were without 16 players, we were without 18. I could care less that their 3rd string QB carved up our 3rd string secondary made up of players that are not going to be on the team unless the rest of the team gets struck by lightning.

3rd: Keep in mind that the New England Patriots are 30-1 under Belichek in the preseason and we know which one the one was. Yeah I know some of you will say 30-1 in the preseason guess the pre-season games do mean something since the Patriots have won the last two Super Bowls...no it just means Belichek plays his starters longer than anyone else in the NFL and one day it is going to come back and bite him. I saw Beisel in the game in the fourth quarter for heavens sake.

Washington is up next and we will get a better idea of the team by then, hopefully Pollack gets his ass into camp Sunday as is rumored.

I was impressed with:

RUDI

PERRY

Pass Rush

Cliff Russell's speed

Walter actually catching balls that he should

KK playing for Williams at FS was solid

Kitna

Disappointed with:

Run Defense

Brandon Williams

PALMER's missing CJ

The bad call at the end of the game, it looked like Broussard had a TD

Overall the first team Offense looked like it had most aspects ready to go.

Defense looks improved on pass rush, but still looks to have problems with the run.

Lol, know what you mean. Of course that play can work well when he's covered one-on-one and the defense isn't expecting it right off the bat. But the Bengals just seemed intent on doing it regardless of the situation and it was ugly.

With Palmer's arm, I still don't understand why he doesn't have that timing down with Chad because he constantly under-throws him and/or puts too much air under the ball it seems.

Palmer's most impressive when he throws that deep out - no one can stop that the way he zings it in there - like to see that more often. He seemed off on his slant patterns to, lots of work needed it seems and I hope he gets more than a quarter next week.

I also think Warrick would make a big difference.

palmer to chad, long bomb to start the game. would have bet the farm that would happen. one thing about our offense the past few years....predictable.

i try not to take this game too seriously, but we have kinks to work out. player-for-player, i think we looked pretty good. o-line looked great, running game too... passing game looked off, but it was timing, which is reparable in time for the season...

pass rush is the BEST i've seen on a bengals team in quite a long time. i was very charged to see that, especially against NE's very schematic blocking. linebackers looked lost at times...

odell, the future leader of this defense, has great skills and aggressiveness, but needs to work on timing- looked great though.

kiewan plays with great energy and, even last year, shows that he's one of the most consistent tacklers on the team...

bryan robinson, while not a great tackle, is solid and he looked great last night b/c cincy hasn't had a quality DT in so long. that's what a quality DT does, folks, in case you forgot. great pick-up.

kim herring looked pretty good.

chad looked even quicker than last year and it's refreshing to see that he is still "un-coverable".

jeremi johnson looked stoned all year last year, but is back to his rookie form it looks like.

corey dillon- great runner, and i don't dislike him one bit. even him throwing his pads in the stands the last game of the year and all his mumbling and crying...our franchise was a JOKE. those guys had to bring their own towels from home to camp and games, for christ's sake. it was a terrible franchise and corey was fed up. he was the best player on our team and watched, year by year, as we missed the s**tter. a few other players (simmons, willie, richie, etc.) have been through it, but were more reserved (publicly) about it, and i respect them more than i do corey, but still...after 6 years of watching your team's management s**t themselves during the draft and having other teams literally laugh off the bengals, i understand where corey was comin from. i'm happy for him. he is a genuine guy with a bad rap. maybe he did sock his wife in the jaw, but who hasn't, eh?

I'm not even concerned with the offense this pre-season focused solely on the D.

As I am too Icy. We know the talent and ability is there for the (1st string) offense. It's the defense that must come together for the Bengals to take it to the next level and make the playoffs.

BTW Mike Brown and David Pollack. You two have made your points. It's time for you two to resolve this damn contract impasse, and get on with the job of making the Cincinnati Bengals a playoff team.

Especially you Mikie. Goddam. Do I have to remind you it's been 14 years with no playoffs on your freakin' watch? Look at it in it's totality. Whats the constant denominator through all of it? Whoops! That would be you wouldn't it? I'd be embarrassed as hell! Time to get up off your fat duff, shell out some cash, and do what's needed to make it work f**ker.

My biggest concern after watching the game was the amount of missed tackles on the defense. Patrick Pass is not that good of a back and he was running all over us. Nobody was trying to wrap their arms around the ball carrier. It was embarrasing.

Other than that, I think Carson was just a bit nervous. This was his first game back since his injury, against the same team that injured him. I think he'll be alright next week now that he's got his first game back under his belt.

I just caught some highlights via the NFL Network...all hail to them!!!..lol CP looked rusty.....better get some WD-40 in his ass!!! Our running game looked great. Odell was flying all over the place.....he is going to be good.

I just bought tickets to the Bengals/Skins game a week from today. I've been trying to get a Skins fan to go with me, but they are all busy...Fri is not a great day to catch a game. Any Bengals fans in the DC area?!????I've got a free club seat?!?!? Anyway, I hope Pollack gets his head out of his wallet and signs real soon. Ide like to see him at FedEx stadium, even if he doesn't play. Overall, not a bad loss...we did just play NFL champs!!!!! GOOOOOO BENGALLLLLLSSS!!!!!

One of my roommates is Co-Oping in DC this semester...he'll be there.

However, I doubt he'd wanna go because he's a Steelers fan. <_<

I assume you were kidding, but this isn't really funny.

Otherwise, I thought your assessment of the game was on the money!

yeah, my sense of humor sucks :(

Just for the record, I laughed.

As for Corey I don't begrudge him his success but when he keeps talking about the ring he now wears I wish he could remember that it was the Bengals who traded him to the Super Bowl champs instead of his first choice...the Oakland Raiders.
